I would like to see Cummins adopt the Engineering that’s in the Signature Engine. The overhead Cam thing would be nice to see in the B Engines.

Great video, I bet Ol Tim was sweating bullets tearing into that engine.

So before anyone else thinks I used a surface grinder to clean the head and block that was a 320 scotch brite wheel on a low speed drill so no removal of head or block material would occur. That’s why it took so much time to get the gasket material off due to how non-aggressive the pad was.

Two of my 6.7 had pushrod like that , but in my case was head Valve problems, also had to replace piston because it was hit . I calibrated mine 8/18 and I like it so far.

Good deal. Valve adjustment is a must on these and most don’t know or don’t care till something like this happens.

I just changed injectors on my 5.9 and I bent the exhaust pushrod on #3 cylinder when I first started it up, but it it didn’t brake off like the one in the video so I’m hoping I can just buy another pushrod and I’ll be good 😬

Should be able to

Hey, just curious if replacing just the pushrod worked for you as I just had the same situation. Thanks

I always enjoy watching these types of repairs on a Cummins B series. They are elegantly simple compared to Powerstrokes and Dmaxs. At the end of the day, do you think that the head really needed to come off? I was wondering if you were gonna try a magnet which you did and I'm sure you were glad it worked. I have a really thin diameter extendable length pickup magnet which probably would have fit down the pushrod bore. Either way, looks like a job well done!

It was wedged in the tappet pretty good. Not sure any would have pulled it out but we got lucky on the tappet being ok. Cummins is my second pick after a Powerstroke. Don’t care for DMax. Thanks for watching.

What condition were your rockers in? I'm doing injectors and studs now and my rockers are sticking from galling. Ordered new rockers from Hamilton. Stock pushrods appear to be ok

He was on a budget when this happened and needed it back on the road ASAP but I wanted to replace all the rockers and if it had been my own truck would have. But I truly feel that this happened due to lack of valve adjustment. If I remember correct this truck had 275k on the clock and he had never adjusted the valves. Your doing the right thing replacing your rockers.

I have a bit of a miss that is more noticeable at idle and low rpm, coul a pushrod be ever so slightly bent and cause this, truck has decent power in the upper part of the rpm range, just has this annoying rough idle, ive done valve lash and replaced one problematic injector?
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
I’d be looking at a injector. The only reason he had one bend was because his valve lash was never adjusted and got so out that the pushrod worked out of the rocker socket.

@@AutomedicGarage well when I did the one injector I noticed all the rockers were NOT torqued to spec....so after i torqued the rockers I had to go back and do valve lash again, somebody did head studs on this motor but they didn't pay attention to details so I am trying to rule out all possibilities, when I do other injectors I am going to check all rockers and pushrods, easy enough to pull em out one at a time and roll em on a mirror, where is a good source for injectors by the way?

@@johnstark3058 I use nothing but oem on Cummins and Powerstroke unless we’re doing a build and need to go up in size. Which I haven’t done in a Cummins in awhile but with the powerstrokes I use warren diesel.

So I’m paranoid because after I did studs and valve lash I pulled a pushrod for shots and giggles and put it back and it’s like there is more of the normal Cummins clacking sound from inside the truck but outside sounds smooth. Would I know if it was bent when it’s running
@AutomedicGarage

Yea his was a dead miss with no power

@@AutomedicGarage okay thanks, I think I’m just hearing more of the motor since I’m not hearing my valves as much. I was about to pull it back apart and go over everything haha

Run the valve clearance to be sure.
@JLA1911A1

TTY? Cummins uses TTA bolts and they can absolutely be reused if within length spec.
@AutomedicGarage
@AutomedicGarage Год назад
@@JLA1911A1 I’m not a Cummins mechanic they felt like torque to yeild the way they were stretching and not achieving torque which technically they are because TTA isn’t a bolt but the process of tightening a bolt to achieve the clamp down force. You torque to said torque with the final degree inferred by the manufacturer specs. They had to be replaced in this situation because they didn’t even want to torque to the Cummins spec. Not to mention they are inexpensive so why not replace anyway?
