In addition to a rain jacket, I carry Hot Hands handwarmers in my bag. They fit in inside my jacket pocket and inside the waistband of your pants in the back. And I also carry a couple of extra velcro straps. I hadn't thought about something to tighten pants legs but these will work for that, too. I saw a guy who put a battery operated heating pad inside his jacket and powered it with as USB connected power bank. Always get good ideas from you. Thanks for posting.

2017 R1200RT....heated grips and seat, Werks Quiet ride windshield, modular helmet, scarve around neck under jacket, hoodie sweater under jacket, jeans, boots, good to go down into the mid 20's F! GREAT bike. Warm hands are a BIG benefit of those grips...heats the blood. Hot coffee...heat up the core and good to ride!

That's some good advice. I use layers of long Johns and other stuff, when it's cold, but that could come in handy, on a longer ride, with an unexpected change in drop in temperature. Instead of that last one, though, I recommend what I do, to keep the bottoms of my chaps from flapping in the wind, which will work for the bottoms of your pants, too. Use bandanas that are folded up (from both sides to the middle or you want) to about an inch or so. Then tie those around each ankle. And keep them folded up, after you take them off, for next time. I use mine, anytime that I'm riding. They keep the buttons/snaps from wearing.
@mustachemoto
@mustachemoto 3 месяца назад
Bandanas are a great idea too. I use long johns if the weather is going to warm up or fleece-lined jeans if it's going to stay cold. Keep watching and I'll keep posting!

Wool poly base layer, cotton shirt, wool sweater, well treated wax cotton jacket. Wool poly base layer, PCM lined well treated waxed cotton pants. Wool socks and a water proof boot. Thinsulate or PCM lined long gauntlet leather glove. Good to go high teens/low 20’s. Typically only switch on the heated grips or seat if it has been an hour or more on the road or if riding in shadowed mountain valleys. Keep in mind there is a difference between feeling that it is cold and actually being cold.
@mustachemoto

Lots of layering is certainly the way to leave the house and you're right, it totally depends on how long your ride is going to be... if I'm not commuting, the ride is usually going to be all day long.

The rubber bands are a fine idea, but much better is a pair of gators, such as used by mountaineers. Do it! Get a pair! You'll thank me later. Also, I was staring at your naked neck through this whole video. Get a neck gator! Do it! You'll never ride without one after you've tried it. A pair of gators for your legs, and a neck gator, take up almost no space and weigh almost nothing. And the neck gator can be wetted in hot weather, turning it into an effective cooler. And it keeps bugs from getting down inside your jacket. And you can even pull it up over your head to help keep your scalp warmer.
@mustachemoto

Ooh i actually got one! If it starts raining saran wrap your shins OUTSIDE of your pants. You can find it at truck stops and walmarts and stuff. Sometimes the local restaurants have some. i have found above my knee doesn't usually get very wet but if the bottoms of my pants stay dry it keeps me much warmer. Also you can throw a heat packet in the toe of each boot and it will help. My St Louis to Omaha at 2:30am ride back from Tampa SUCKED. I was in a denim jacket, jeans and cowboy boots. Temperature dropped below 40°F and it rained on me all the way through Missouri.

I had to make rain pants out of a garbage bag and duct tape one time... the saran wrap sounds much easier! That ride sounds brutal!

I don't think that the chemicals are good for you. That's why it's recommended to use deodorant, for under your arms. Anti-perspirants affect how your body naturally works. Maybe foot power would be good. Also, the right kind of socks are what to check into. Supposedly, wool socks are food for staying dry and warm. I haven't used them yet, though.

I carry a piece of Tyvec house wrap in every motorcycle jacket. It folds up practically flat, takes up very little room and saves you from having to find a newspaper. I have cut a hole in the middle of a piece that is just narrower than my shoulders to put my head through and it covers the front and the back. My cousin had an entire jacket made from Tyvec that took up very little room.

I guess there's some up North somewhere that this is perfect timing on video on keeping warm Absolutely it is most important to STAY warm instead of trying to get warm I don't think anything under my jacket is going to help block wind, my winter bike is Versys 1000 and it has windshield, plus I just zip up the vents on my textile jacket Like another poster, your neck is bare, I wear breeze thru Russell hoodies under my jacket, the front comes up under my chin and then held there by jacket...... leatherup sells things made for keeping neck from the wind, they even make things that cover from nose down under jacket I've had made for motorcycle winter gloves, they suck, especially suck at the price, some cheap fluffy thinsulate gloves get from Walmart work great.....what they need to make now is thin palm side and insulated backside gloves, specific for heated grips Never considered covering my socks with plastic, should help. My wife made me a pair of stirrups, clip on pant bottom go under boot and clip to other side of pants.....you can buy such things, kinda expensive from leatherup and dealerships, she made mine from a pair of $5(then price) suspenders.... they're great especially if you have forward controls or ride on highway pegs......another thing I've seen on amazon, clips to front of pant bottom then snaps to boot laces(not tried should work) Now the biggest help for staying warm.....a pair of insulated work bibs......way way cheaper than motorcycle specific bibs.......best at Rural King, same thing a little more expensive at Tractor Supply
@mustachemoto
@mustachemoto 4 месяца назад
If I know it'll be cold, I wear a Turtle Fur around my neck and flece-lined jeans. Both make a huge difference. I'll check into the pant straps, those sound good and I agree with winter gloves sucking. I have a heated pair that get the job done, but I lose so much dexterity I only use them on the highway.

Panty hose for the lower body. Cheap and easy. Put 'em on in a restroom. You may have stop at a Walmart or the like to get them. Also larger plastic grocery bag. Cut the bottom open and wear it like a shirt under your jacket but on top of your clothes. Or any combo of the aforementioned methods.
