My 2003 XC90 FWD never had any of those "most common problems". I have replaced wheel hubs, shock absorbers and brake rotors myself and I am not a mechanic. Also replaced ignition coils and spark plugs recently, so easy to repair. And why buy parts from the dealer, they only cost half as much online. Its hard to believe the original battery (made in Germany) still works up to now, though hard to cold start, but hey, its been 14 years!
@@alexanderstevens145 It’s definitely a petrol engine because he replaced the spark plugs, i think its the 2.5T because that is the engine to buy in the XC90.
Just found; ICM for $130 Haldex pump for $225 Haldex pump for $200 Fuel pump module for $50 All on eBay. Absolutely no one that owns these old Volvo's is going to the dealer. We're either going through FCP euro or sourcing parts from junkyard cars.
@@MrSudanPresident My 2007 has around 280k miles. Ive been running it without AWD for a bit now, im sure its the issue this guy talks about. My trans is starting to slip, and i just got a check engine for a converter. My plans where to just beat it to death, but it wont pass inspection cause of the check engine. and i don't want to start putting money into it this far along. But i could probally get another year on that trans at least. No rust, which is amazing being a northern car. and the engine runs strong, Minor repairs with the cheapest rock auto parts, by mechanics that have never worked on volvo's. Id buy another.
most places claim to be dealers while in fact they are just authorized repair shops for minor things, like satisfying guarantee requirements for the cars they sell
mine does. volvo dealer in pensacola, fl overcharges parts like 3x to 4x, labor at least 4x and sells computer software update, they are unable to give a rough estimate on anything, not even things like this could cost between $200 and $3000. but hey, it does not stop there, it gets "better". they suggest un-necessary replaces of things like hub assembly or sound system (btw they are 100% clueless about anything related to electronics, they have ZERO electronics engineers and this affects both Volvo and Mercedes). Technically speaking, their market audience is the local (dead stupid) fucking rich audience (lawyers, literally criminal surgeons, fucking ex slave owners, you name it). For the rest of us, there is no use for that building and their fucking communist toxic services (I did live under communism for the first few years of my life, so I fucking KNOW PRECISELY what I am talking about and CAN IDENTIFY any similarities immediately). Well, there a vote coming on. Good luck GOP (they are so eagerly expecting you down stairs, you have no idea). I do love volvo. I am not a registered democrat. I am white (jew origin easter europe and canada origine) so you know. education level phd in software engineering.
hello, you know idea about lost some power in my 2005 volvo xc90 t6 ,my son change the radio and now not have driver power window,a/c,su roof and in the dash have airbag service, thank you
We have an XC70 station wagon and our AWD stopped working with 340K on the odometer... so now it's basically FWD.. I live in Canada and purchased a good set of winter tires and the car worked fine this winter with just FWD.
Replaced the engine cooling fan AFTER calling the dealer, Almost 2k for the dealer to do it. I don't have a garage or lift so I put it on my ramps and jacked it up another foot for clearance to pull the old fan out and install the new one.
Hi How do you know if the 2005 2.5T model works as AWD or not anymore as long as i dont have any errors on my dashboard? Would a scanner show that?(has 180.000km and so far has just the problem with steering angle sensor which YES gives antiskid error.) Thanks
Update: ebay yaw sensor worked, but also needed to replace the clockspring/SAS behind the steering wheel. No used option so I shelled out $330 for new part. Instantly worked without a trip to the dealer for DTSC calibration, I have my AWD/stability control back!
It is a YAW Sensor, not an RA sensor. It is used to detect YAW which the AWD and ABS system uses in their calculations. YAW is when a car begins to spin out of control in the front or rear end.
The only issues I have had with my XC90 - Small coolant leak, Brake Pump Vacuum leak (fixed myself), clock spring went bad (Anti-Skid Warning), replaced myself as well. I have had 6 Volvos, all have been super reliable with only a few issues, and most, we under warranty. Love these cars.
Thank you I have a 05 xc90 and I’ve Ignored The skid sensor... now I know what it is!!!! And it makes perfect since because my sunroof was leaking and I got it fixed
i have a 2005 xc70 and i am not getting the awd to work. checked fuses they are ok. i do not hear any grinding noise from the trans, i am the second owner, don't think they first owner ever took it anywhere that the awd would be needed. can you tell me what i should be looking for to find out what the problem might be. i read that id the angle drive splined sleve is broken that it would not make any noise is that true. thanks
AWD is All Wheel Drive meaning it's always on. 4WD is driver choice to have 2WD or 4WD. So if your all wheel drive is not working there is either something really wrong or you have a 2WD.
FYI to those with the Anti Skid Service error code/warning message, the YAW sensor under the passenger seat might be the root cause but if not, it is likely the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) that is in the steering wheel, beneath the airbag device. I had the error code and replaced the YAW Sensor and it didn't resolve my issue. Then I replaced the SAS and I was good to go. It's not a hard repair, but you need to be very careful when removing the airbag. RU-vid has great repair instructional videos for this fix.
For the repairs to the 08 Volvo & parts; I can save $ and put said "repair $ for the Volvo into my almost 40 year old 3/4 ton REAL 4X4 Chevy K20 Suburban
@@verawolfenbarger5875 I didn't purchase OEM parts but the ones I selected were listed as "OEM" Quality. They were much cheaper and have been fine so far, fingers crossed. Which codes numbers do you have? The only code I had was for the anti-skid but one repair videos I saw referenced the yaw sensor and the other one referenced the SAS. Again, the job isn't too hard but because the SAS job involves the airbag removal, I would make sure you are very confident with your mechanic skills as if it goes off accidentally while your head is close to it, it could break your neck. I would start with the yaw sensor first as it is cheaper and there is no risk to life and limb replacing it
Thanks for your channel, I've just bought a 2007 3.2 ltr. xc90 it's awesome but my wife has claimed it. I wont to buy one for myself and given the current price of fuel here in Australia was looking at at Diesel, but after talking to a local mechanic who specializes in them, I was told by him that the diesels have problems, especially in moderate to high milage. My budget only allows for an older xc90, the one I've got has 280,000 kilometers on it and runs like a swiss watch, it's powerful and smooth. I would like to hear your comments and any others. Thanks.
| have the "anti-skid service required" message on my 2003 XC90 which has the 2.4 D5 engine. There are no warning lights on the dashboard apart from the triangle being constantly amber. I know the clock spring works because I can get readings for the steering angle sensor on my scan tool. The yaw sensor is in pristine condition (no sunroof on my XC90 so there's no water ingress) and I get yaw readings on my scan tool. I get ABS0094 & CEM1A64 codes which I think my be connected. Thoughts?
@@yeawhateverdudesure It was a faulty DEM. It was beyond repair so I had to get a recontitioned replacement DEM. The codes were for no communication to the DEM from the ABS & CEM modules..
I have an xc90 and recently when I start it up when the engine is cold, it accelerates very deeply like one or two times before it goes normal again, put in a professional code scanner and no codes in relation to that have shown up, any ideas?
After market parts work great for any card ppl that don’t know any better are the ones that buy parts from the dealer... I think that’s dumb since it all the same function
I had car sitting for some time, then accelerated too fast and got some engine error. Dont know what was that, but disconencted battery waited and back on. Problem gone. But seems will have to investigate soon what causing this
THANK YOU! (antiskid control sensor) Now I know what happened & how to fix the antiskid message given on the dash. My sunroof was leaking like crazy. I've fixed that since.
Sunroof has drain tubes going down the windshield pillars. These can get clogged. Ours froze up in cold weather and got completely dislodged. Removed plastic covers from the pillars to discover this. Dripping water is bad for the electronics which are everywhere.
Hello i have a xc90 t6 with 80000km the Problem of my car is that für maximum is 60km/h i cant drive More than it. And sometimes when I put The car on d it feels like that it is on n or p ... PLEASE CAN ANYBODY HELP ME
ok long shot here, I have a 2005 xc90 that needed a jump start, after that we have no turn signals, high beams, radio, etc... have checked the fuses ... maybe i missed one? if so which one??
Yup. They fixed a lot of issues on the '08 and newer models. The transmission valve body being the most important issue they fixed due to the shift flares and hard down shifts.
Look for a mid-'07 to '08 V8, after they fixed the cam bearing issue and transmission issues. No timing belt to change. I bought my '07 V8 4 years ago with 100K miles on it. It's almost at 230K now and still going strong. Hoping to drive it to 300K+.
As a few others here said, the 2.5T is the best one, even though it’s the older model (surprisingly). The v6 and v8 models that came after are known for transmission failures. And it’s a fun drive, too!
Hi, my xc90 d5 2010 is having intermittent starting problems. Sometimes it starts but mostly just a click and all electrics are okay and I have tried both keys. Any idea? Thanks
Hi Chris, it's late to ask but did you get a reply to this? I'm not yet sure whether it's the immobilizer, antenna ring or starter or relays for that matter. Just had battery replaced to rule that out. So the rest of the tests needs to continue.
I’m looking to buy an ‘04 XC90 awd with 230k miles...for 3,000. The biggest problem when I test drove it was a rough idle at a red light. The idle did get a bit rougher but not too much rougher. Also, the test drive was about 20 minutes behind the wheel. When I drive it, I noticed the acceleration was really smooth, tranny really smooth, braking was decent for a heavy car...I’m watching videos to get a clear understanding of this is a smart purchase or not. Any further info on my situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks & much love from Texas.
I have a xc90 2003 but of the videos I just checked that black thing is not a fuel pump. 2 modules round cylinder. So I don't know what this is ?? anybody check this ?? i am a brand new to volvo cars so ...
Thank you Juan Jose Ramirez and volvoproject, I tried and contacted many companies and they all said there is some wiring modification needed if the XC90 model is 2005 or older. I don't have enough experience for wiring modification and looking for plug and play system (if available) for my XC90 2005.
That's because you haven't had the sunroof leak yet or your are good about checking and unclogging the drain. Also you probably change your fluids at the proper intervals.
@@MrJinwright what drain do you speak of? I need to know because my sunroof leaks and when I bought it the fabric along the sides of the front window has water damage as I see alot of the Volvo XC90 have that issue. So if you have any information on this I would appreciate it
@@jessicawhitefoot-dendy5665 volvos have drain tube at all four corners of the sun roof. Depending on if you park under trees and such, they can clogg and the water drains down the front pillars. Happened on out 1996 965 (960 wagon). Open sunroof, spot plastic pan drains in corners and gently blast them out with compressed air.
I have a 2010 Volvo XC90 I purchased in 2014 with 50k miles. Lately it’s been one thing after another, ABS, anti-lock brake system, tire pressure system. I got a quote from the dealer on the ABS anti-lock brake system & was told it could cost as much as $7000! That is outrageous! I had a Volvo 740 years ago & didn’t have these kind of issues! Ford purchased Volvo & Jaguar so now that’s got me wondering! FORD, Fix Or Repair Daily or Found On the Road Dead! 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

Looking at 2004 xc90 T6 260k miles, the car is in excellent condition, but weary of all the bad reps about the tranny & other stuff.. 1 owner,2nd ownerlast 18months!! Not a gambler..
Autozone advance oriley napa all sell the same aftermarket junk parts. You bought a german car, parts are shipped from germany. So of course parts are expensive. Don't complain about expensive parts when u chose a german car. Expensive cars equals expensive parts. It seems common sense but it never amazes me at how many people don't realize that.
I currently have over 40+ electrical issues on my 2008 XC90 with the 3.2 v6. The shop I brought it to (not a dealer) because I did not want to get hosed. They told me it would be "going down the rabbit hole" on these electric problems. I agree. I am saving up yo buy me an old "Square Chevy/GMC truck with REAL 4X4 lockouts on it. I also won't require a degree from M.I.T. to work on the truck either. Plus the parts are plentiful and a hell of s lot cheaper in the wallet.
Of course an old Chevy or GMC truck will be cheaper, have you used VIDA to confirm you actually have 40+ electrical problems? I used to work with a sr Master tech who thought I was a lunatic for working on saabs and Volvos when in reality they are actually very easy to work on, most techs are afraid of euro cars
@@TheCheasequah3 the shop that specializes in Saabs and Volvos specifically did do a read anc print off the ECM and it does have north of 40 fault codes in the electrical system. And about 3/4 of those deal with the all wheel drive system.
I just saw today that God forsaken computer mounted on the rear diff of a 2004 XC90 T6 AWD, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BURST IN FLAMES................F&^%ING VOLVO ALWAYS making things complicated JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN. What could have been a perfectly fine SUV it's nothing more than a TICKING TIME BOMB. So much CRAP to control CRAP than controls CRAP. GAAAH.
VinceVega303 Hate to break it to you- but every car has problems that they’re famous for. Personally, I’ve driven many different vehicles. My 14 year old Volvo has been the best. I’ve driven newer cars that needed serious repairs well before 14 years. This one hasn’t needed anything more serious than an intercooler hose.
What bad luck you have, all those broken gadgets, radio, sensors, modules, pumps, relays ... with my volvo xc90 with more than 350,000 km, I have only changed the hydraulic motor mounts, and I put them myself, nothing
“5 most common problems”....please site your sources and/or data pool to back up you claims. Funny that our 2003 that we purchased new 11/2002 and sold 1/2018 never had these “common problems”.
XC90 v8 blows oil out at a quart a week, 60k miles , Halix went bad , cost 3k bux, Steering column 2500.00 ( recall paid) footwell turns into swimming pool ( fault / feature ) ? AM radio dead, Alternator fried everything with 80 volts AC ( rectifier fried and shorted) most units protected from over voltage , some not so much , Wood steering wheel deluxe is not made of wood and has cracking , power steering unit cavitates at 70 mph and fails ( dont ask ), worse volvo ever made. stay away from volvo.
My parents bought a used 2007 xc90 for $7000 and have put about the same amount into it to safety. Nothing but problems. I swear their car is a lemon. The only thing luxurious about this car now is the nice leather seats.
With your accented English and the speed with which you say the names of each part, I find it impossible to understand what you are saying. Slow down, enunciate, or subtitle your video. Thanks.
suggestion for trump, while still losts, impose a billion times higher tariffs on any chinese car, especially for the ones not even manufactured in china, purchase volvo cars back and reimburse it by ab volvo sweden. if refused, anexe sweden immediately, as state 51 :-)
I can watch repeatedly the video or these people who don't speak English, as a native language, can name the parts more slowly and write the part name, even on a piece of paper in front the camera.
i forgot to mention something, stating for my worlds. there is a very modern (pseudo spiritual) movement in both china and usa. it is called falun gong. it has exceptional physical results resulting to perfect health, longer life and exceptional independence from western bucher for a buck so called medical system. so far so good, nothing notable happened in here (us) of course. in china however, there are documented cases of falun gong members disappearing (murdered for organs for fucking communist party upper echelon members). so you get kidnaped, murdered slowly for organ donation. wouldn't this be worth the glass i was talking about, or at least confiscation and closing of any chinese corporation here, followed (same day) with a friendly syringe for the "brilliant" so called leader? i would say so, but rest is just 2 cents cheap talk. again, not a hate message!
this has nothing to do with some of the nice employees there, the upper management and nepotistic middle management has to go (fired for cause, the cause being republican/communist). this will happen, in our life time, perhaps even during current (exotic) administration.
The drive shaft to rear wheels turns.continuously unless the angle gear at front is broken. Does anyone change the fluid and filter inside the Haldex module? To prevent pump and DIM burning out?
