Sure, there's electric truck towing challenges in certain circumstances. But there are a ton of reasons and countless applications where the F150 Lightning tows like a champ! With Hitch Assist, Max Tow Trailer Package, Pro Trailer Assist, and seemingly unlimited torque and power, to overlook this electric pickup as your next camping, RV-ing, daily chore, boat-hauling, base camp go-to might have you missing out on changes already happening in all of those scenarios!

When you go electric, your life gets better.

Well, it certainly gets cheaper and, for me, easier. But I understand why electric might not work for everyone. I'm just glad, especially with traditional truck folk, that they re giving it a good, practical look. Thank you so much for the comment!

Been electric since my Chevy volt in 2012 . Still use my diesel truck for long rows but otherwise it’s resting in the barn ! Towing less than 50 miles also gets the lighting used :)

@@roydelpozo4816That's the way to do it, Roy! As always, love to hear about how others are going electirc, using evs, and how they're incorporating electric trucks into their lives. Thanks for the comment! @roydelpozo4816

That Pro Trailer Assist would really mess with me. 😧 As someone that has been backing up horse trailers (started with a four-horse bumper-pull) since she was 10, that would be a huge retraining. I do not think I would like it, but having seen other people really struggle, I could see the general benefit.

Haha! I have heard the same from friends who tow a lot. Many say, "this would confuse the heck out me!" Experienced truck folk won't need this at all since they are so adept at manoeuvring large trailers already. I think it will help those who are like me who tow less, and that's a good thing if it makes it a bit safer and easier for more occasional trailer users. Thank you so much for the comment. Keep 'em comin'!.

Hitch assist! I had no idea it would do that! Damn… I guess I’m going to have finally give in and read the manual. ❤

I just picked up my new Silverado 4WT ev and I can't stop smiling. I haven't towed with it yet, but that's the main job I bought it for. I'm in Port Moody and hoping to visit the Kootenays in the fall. I'll keep you posted on how my new journey is going. It was your video about your Lightning that got me out looking for something other than the CyberTruck, so thank you so much. I love the channel and your outlook on life.

Holy smokes, Mike! You just made my year! I would be stoked to connect if you ever make it out this way so I can check out that amazing Ultium-powered truck of yours! I haven't heard of anyone being able to get one in Canada, especially not via a non-fleet buy. How did you pull that off? SOOO happy for you! In the description is my email. If you're interested at some point, I am interested in letting people know all the fun things people are doing with their ev trucks, especially in a work setting, since I have a new episodal off-shoot I'm working on that involves meeting ev truck folk and doing exactly that. Even a road trip from my end is doable if a possible future episode might be in the cards? (hint, hint!) Thank you so much for the boost and such inspiring feedback! It makes me want to work twice as hard on the channel for everyone.

Congratulations! The Silverado is the most capable EV truck from a range & distance towing perspective. I am on the reservation list, but need to cancel since I am unwilling to give up my Model Y and the Silverado is priced a bit high for me. I hope to buy a used EV truck in the not too distant future.

I have a 2023 lightning standard range battery I pull a 5000 pound trailer and it basically gets half the mileage which is great because I always have enough battery to get back home… It’s the best Truck ever
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 21 день назад
I'm only losing about 20% but you are towing a much heavier trailer than I am and if it does varied terrain, that makes sense. You're like me though: always able to charge at home. Here's yet another testament to towing even with a standard range, on a regular basis. Have you ever had to to do longer trips with the trailer where DC fast charging was necessary? If so, what were your experiences with that? Thanks for the feedback and comment from a fellow standard range Lightning owner, Michael!

@@truckedupevs I have a crazy story… We were driving all around striping parking lots and I had about 20 miles left of range so in Allen Park Michigan on executive Drive is a gigantic Ford complex with tons of new vehicles parked everywhere. There are two high powered chargers there I unhook the trailer pull up to the charger. It doesn’t work go to the next charger it doesn’t work, so I hooked back up to the trailer halfway home. I had 0 miles left the truck cut power. I got off the freeway and basically limped my way for about 5 miles where the truck would cut off. I’d sit a few minutes go a half mile truck with cut off sit a few minutes go a half mile and I finally made it home to charge

Recently checked out the Lightnings at our local dealer in Hawkesbury, Ontario. When I pulled in and parked to do a walk around ( without a bothersome sales person), I saw that they had 5 parked in a row .... all presented prominently near the road. I found 1 xlt with a $69,000 price tag on it..... all of the rest were $80,000 and up over $100,000. I went in and found a sales person and talked for a bit. He said that the xlt was sold, but he could find another easily. They had one Pro in awhile ago and it sold in 2 hours. Still too much, but I have the advantage that my current 2012 Ram is still running great.✌.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 21 день назад
Yeah, the problem lies in the dealerships order allocations rather than what people want. Almost everyone wants the XLT and the Pro, but the dealerships are all ordering the most expensive Lariats and Platinums. We hear a lot about large Lightning inventories on dealer lots. It's their own undoing. There are close to ZERO available base trims in the entire country! To try to curb this, Ford launched the Flash trim, which is huge value for the money, but none of the dealers in my area have brought any in. The best approach is to go on Ford's Build & Price, and just build the truck and order it yourself. Don't forget the $5,000 Canadian Federal incentive that should drive the price down further. But I think you have the right approach. If someone has a reliable truck and it's working fine, why replace it? I took exactly the same approach as you until the transmission went in my previous truck. Thank you for all the information and great feedback, Don!

My 2003 ram runs perfect :) unlike the new ones :( but I’m sick and tired of paying for fuel from outside the USA . They said I bough mine end of April and it was 20k off and 3.9 financial. They are no longer selling well stateside. I guess they are still playing stupid games in Canada with “fees”.

Another great video! Hey, have you heard anything of the ‘24 lightnings being any more efficient or charging any better/worse with the heat pump?
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 20 дней назад
Thank you so much! No, but I expect we'll see a review pretty quick on exactly that. In my neck of the woods, and as you know in Canada, getting a rental on '24 is difficult but I hope to get my hands on one and run it through its paces, but when it matters most: Winter. According to Ford there has been no EPA change to the 2024 lineup, std range still at 240 miles, 320 for Flash and Lariat, and 300 for Platinum, so that was a bit of a surprise. I expected some slightly better stats. Charging speeds still 'suck', if one were to compare it to, say, the Silverada EV, which is able to achieve 350kw, which is mental! But it needs to do that with a battery pack at twice the size. At 155kw, it's not great, but I have trouble finding DC 'fast' charger sin my area that exceed 150kw. Once everyone has the new free NACS adapter (still waiting), and Tesla SuperChargers become a thing, Ford will start to look like the old guy on the block if they continue to ignore this glaring shortfall. I'm convinced that we are on the cusp of something big form Ford in the T3 Project, despite all the FUD saying otherwise. Fingers crossed. Again, thanks for the comment and for your electric channel, 'neighbour'!
@yourelectricneighbour3633
@yourelectricneighbour3633 20 дней назад
@@truckedupevs yeah was also surprised the ratings stayed the same. Winter efficiency *should improve but we’ll see. Yes I know, can’t wait for what T3 will bring. Ford has been able to keep any leaks locked down at this point! Hoping for good stuff too. BTW, we’ll be towing again this weekend with the Model Y so perhaps I’ll have to make an efficiency video…

That car in Australian dollars here is ...Prices for the Lightning start from $224,990 before on-road costs for the Standard Range, and rise to $254,990 plus on-road costs for the top-spec Extended Range.22 Apr 2024
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 21 день назад
That's mental! That's price gouging like I've never heard of before. Wow. So sorry to hear that. That is not helping with EV adoption at all. Thank you for the information, and hope prices come down in Australia like they have here.
@ChrisRyan_Oz
@ChrisRyan_Oz 20 дней назад
@@truckedupevs Those figures are incorrect. It's $209,900 before on road costs for the Extended Range - still very expensive. The problem is they are not sold by Ford, but are RHD conversions by a local company (they're doing it mostly for fleets). And we're done in by taxes and poor currency conversion. I got the first one that was available to public. And I got the full tow package for it. Eventually I hope to tow a caravan with it, so I expect the tow assistance stuff to be very useful.
