There's not too many videos of him. Every know and then, someone will post a clip of a blurry Randy Rhoads, ducking into a heavily wooded area and disappearing.
Life is strange. He was one of the guitarists that were older than me, that I'd look up to back when I was a kid. Today, in 2021, I was just watching these solos of a young Randy Rhoads, frozen in time. And for the first time, it dawned on me that he is young enough to be my grandson.
@@70snostalgia A more cogent memorial to Randy Rhodes is that he died preventing an insane coked-up roady piloting a light plane he should never have been allowed near from killing his (the roadie's) wife and others in a caravan he was trying to ram. . A very under-remembered and very genuine hero - as well as a genuine muiscal genius.
He didn’t play with feeling, he played with passion like his life fucking depended on it. He embodied the music. He became the music. He could play fast as hell but it was nowhere near sloppy, he was clean as fuck. Tricks? Sure, he could do them, but that’s not what he was all about. He incorporated classical music into his work in a way no one else had done before. The dude could solo, riff, read and write like a God. Long live the king that is Randy Rhoads.
Unlike alot of musicians who play doped up to hell and back RANDY was drug free and when he died in that awful plane crash the whole world knew according to his toxicology report the only thing in his system was nicotine. People may not take stock in the fact he was that way but he was real , present , and true to his craft. I have nothing but the highest of respect for that and the man. His family should be very proud of how he truly was an angel and resisted temptation even though it was there for the taking. In my opinion that is the mark of a true man. May he rest in peace in the halls of God almighty entertaining him with his spot on beautiful music....
@@10zeppcheeto Yes . Randy's pilot of the airplane went for a dive bomb move of their tour bus. The plane hit a power line and started spinning . They crashed into the ground and exploded on impact .
The wing clipped the bus first then a tree the the house. It was insane. The guy flying the plane was actually the bus driver. He took the plane for a joyride. The plane belonged to the guys house they were at. They stopped there for AC repairs to the bus. @@jamesvaughan1999
Yea man. I seen him during both tours. Blizzard and Diary '81 & '82. I was 19 & 20yo. Sounded just like the album, imho. He was the king. Very grateful to have witnessed the master in real life. God bless his soul. He'll live on in my heart forever. Randy was THE man!
@@georgemalley6414 A men , you’re right. Sharon osbourne won’t let any of it out. I guess she’s afraid somebody might make a dollar besides her and she can’t stand that.
Randy was a guitar god. I am very proud to be able to experience him with Ozzy shortly before his tragic death. The news back then was a shock and I was pretty much at the end. One of the best guitar ever. Rock in Heaven.
Greatness. I briefly met Randy at Guitar Center West Hollywood in 1978 or 79 80, + or -. A more humble and polite gentleman you could never hope to meet.
I agree- Crowley's two solos and Revelation are RR's best solos. I would add in SATO. How he blended those scales with that tone is so vastly under-appreciated.
It's usually the top selling singles that get all the attention like "Crazy Train" or "Flying High Again". I am suggesting songs like SATO have stellar solos but not as big of a hit commercially. @@boethius1812
Mr Crowley is probably one of the best guitar solos ever. And the outro solo is just insane. If there was any other takes of his solo it would be awesome to someday hear them.
I hear ya. I agree that he was technically better. Having said I’ve still gotta give mad props to EVH. I his tone, feel, and just everything was so good. At the end of the day when we compare RR vs EVH I think the winner is; ‘music’. The prize goes to; all of us.
@@mayorrodgers7446 people need to realize those guys are in the same sentence because of how good and great they were, their music is timeless. There is no better than at that level, while one guy may possess more natural talent or knew more they are still two all time greats.
It's those short bits like 2:50-3:00 that just let you know that he's thinking on a whole different level than the contemporaries. That and the finale of the Crazy Train solo are freakish.
Randy Rhodes was a Jewish-American Guitar Player. His mother Delores Rhoads was a very rich individual (inheritance) and more importantly a Music Teacher who taught young randy how to play the guitar at the school she owned in Los Angeles California, Musonia School of Music. She had her hand in co-owning a recording studio so randy could record an album. God led a young boy and his mother to music greatness! 😊
Had the privilege of seeing Randy on Ozzy's first solo tour in Buffalo at a theater. Original 3 piece Motorhead opened the show...what a friggin night.
Yes!! Somewhere out there there is some live stuff that I heard on Sirius "Ozzy's Boneyard" that I woulda swore it was the Tribute recording, except he had so much cool riffle added throughout the whole song, it's crazy good. And of course I have yet to find it anywhere
Randy would Improvise pretty much every solo and and add more.. as the tours got further in he would do it more so to keep from getting bored with playing the same thing all the time.. His solos are extremly difficult to begin with and then improvising them as he went is just mind blowing.. He was and always will be the best in my book. Sad he met such a tragic end at such a young age. There will never be another.
Seen him live at Atlanta Georgia in the old 0mni with his poke ah dotted flying V and he was and still is in my opinion one of the top 5 best guitarist of all time!!!
"Polka Dot" custom made by Karl Sandoval. He still makes them if you want one. They're not cheap obviously but the entry level Jackson Randy Rhoads V is 300 bucks and plays great.
seen him in pine bluff Arkansas early march in 1982 , just a gifted guitarist ,what could of been if he was still here with us today @@MarkTurner-vs7uc
Every time I see RR playing live it's something I have to want to see more, damn he was so good and that crap about him and EVH not being friends or whatever was because they were never around each other long enough to be friends. Randy was a totally different player, he was getting better really fast.
I think that rivalry started on the Sunset strip. Both played at the same clubs and were known as the two best young guitarist on the strip in the 70's.
So effortless the way his fingers moved up and down the strings. No question that Randy was Ozzy's greatest guitarist, but I always said that Jake E. Lee deserves a lot of accolades as well. He stepped in and kept Ozzy going when Ozzy could have stopped altogether after losing Randy. Jake was a different musician than Randy but you can't deny that some of Ozzy's best work was recorded with Jake. Randy saved Ozzy after Sabbath but Jake also saved Ozzy after Randy.
@@Thunder_Lightning_and_Fury Brad Gillis wasn't really a heavier guitarist for Ozzy's brand of music. Night Ranger was more of a pop rock band and that was Brad's style.
@@mjeh1 Ozzy said in interviews that Randy wanted to leave anyway and study classical guitar but Ozzy convinced him to stay to get some money and success under his belt. If Randy didn't die, he may have recorded another album with Ozzy at some point but he was already going in a different direction. Plus, Randy and Sharon had "relations" one drunken night together so that would have put tension between Randy and Ozzy. Who knows how it would have worked out.
@@jonw.3886 I agree. He wasn't heavy enough. I've been playing guitar for 44 years. I don't think I would have stepped up after Randy passed away. Jake sure did weather some dark days. He'll always be great.
Lucky to see him live in September of ‘81 at Sunrise Musical Theater. Izzy was boring but Randy WAS the show. Blizzard of Ozz Tour. He would sadly die six months later. RIP.
Sadly I missed seeing Randy. When I bought my tickets to see Ozzy in Providence RI Randy was alive two weeks before the concert he tragically passed. I saw one of the Brad Gillis shows it was heart breaking. Nothing against Brad he did great job taking on a nearly impossible task. But I still get choked up thinking thinking about Randy and that I missed seeing him perform live RIP Randy..
how so.. ? Compared to who... ? I can think of ten of the top of my head with much more facility and taste. He wrote good rock riffs though. I'll give him that... but so do other drunks and druggies.. so..
He was UNIQUE in his playing. Rest In Peace Randy. You have inspired thousands of guitarists around the world. Your solos especially Tonight`s solo keep playing in our heads forever and ever AMEN.
Randy Rhoads was something special. His playing was like a rolling rapid with complete control. A virtuoso. A burning candle that got snuffed too soon. I only hope that his life inspires others to keep that flame burning for a very long time.
His playing on Revelation is insane. I've heard him play so many times and I always come away in awe of what he did. We only had him for a short period of time, but he left us a lot of greatness.
Jimi, RR, EVH, SRV...The music and solos they gave us is unfathomable! I mean it really is, smh. So grateful to have been born in '71, to be a living witness to these true Monsters of Rock! Thanks for sharing this. RR on the King Biscuit Flour Hour concert is unmatched.
I love Randy’s solos. Crazy how he does the solos for the Black Sabbath songs, knowing he doesn’t like playing them. Sounds amazing. R.I.P Randy Rhoads 👍🎸❤️
It's where a lot of his solo techniques originate from though. He was an ego filled guitar maniac driven by Marlboro and cocaine, I have a copy of his autopsy death report. He denied even listening to Sabbath as well, his inferiority complex shined through there when logically accomplished guitarists could see right through his bs...listen closely and you'll hear his cocaine speed sloppy playing throughout...he would be ashamed listening back hearing all of his mistakes and into action problems inherently associated with playing aggressively on light strings which cocaine does to you. He was most likely assassinated by the pilot because he was quitting the band after winning an award for guitar player which is the last thing he should have been thinking. Ozzy punched him in the face, word got back to Sharon and her daddy record producer president of the label...they weren't about to let this affect the bands future financially. You research and connect the dots, I know it's crazy but once you know how Aerosmith and others have acted and got away with murder then you may understand and believe it.
Oh…so we are to believe that Ozzy wanted to assassinate his business partner? Ahhh…no. I don’t buy that for a second. The bus driver was doing blow all night before the flight and he was to say the least, an impaired operator. Simple as that
So sad how few recordings we have of the man that launched a million guitar players over night!!! Still blows my mind just like it did 15 year old me. Yes, great music stands the test of time.
he did? he just stabbed him in the back changing his story about Randy being the greatest he ever worked with now changing it to Tony Iommi Ozzy romanticizes that relationship
@@freebee8221Ozzy was "passed out drunk under the drum risers" for most of the recording of the 2 Randy albums crying himself to sleep over his girlfriend breaking his heart. Sharon had to hide his alcohol to force him to get his ass up & even sing his lines.
Makes me think of Randy as an angel. The way he played the guitar was like no other. And the way he helped Ozzy get his life back on track after he was fired from Black Sabbath, and then disappeared.
I think the reason we are left without a proper video of Randy's concert is because of Sharon. She began to destroy the first line-up of Ozzy's band. Therefore, live performances of those years were not even recorded. The first (and only) video from 1981 was a few songs on TV, with Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge. And then we just didn’t have time...
Does anyone think that there is an actual full pro-shot concert video floating around out there ???? I just don't understand how there couldn't have been one ever recorded ???
@@childjames: I've heard that theory for decades. I wonder ?? I just can't see it. She knows if they released it on a Box set or something like that there would be a huge demand ??? I would spend good money on a copy that's for sure.
She absolutely has a load of shows with Randy. I heard about it years ago and there's students of his who confirmed it. I also saw Rudy mention how Sharon used to make sure they knew when they were gonna be filmed. They had a $250k stage set on the Diary tour..you think they didn't have money to film shows? Or they just happened to start filming after Brad Gillis jumped on board to join the tour? Plus if you watch some videos.. particularly a couple minutes in the 30 years after the Blizzard documentary.. there's some short parts with crystal clear footage of them from what looks to be a 3-4 man camera crew.. which is what I've always heard she used. Why she hasn't released anything is anyone's guess. The theories that I tend to agree with are these 3.. a. She's so greedy that she doesn't wanna put the money into it.. production, advertising, possibly having to fix Ozzy's vocal parts here and there, etc.. cause she doesn't think she'll make enough money back. B. She's seriously waiting for Ozz to die so she can cash in. Or C. She's leaving it for Jack to use as his entry into film. Imho those are the soundest possibilities. It's just pathetic that they haven't honored Randy's legacy in the way he deserves... particularly cause Sharon owns the rights to anything Randy did for Ozz. Not even Randy's siblings get any of his royalties. It's awful!!
I heard somewhere that they did a pro shot of one of the blizzard of ozz shows. And yes, something about Sharon Osbourne keeping it from the fans for whatever her twisted reason.
Great work... that's fun to watch. Hell anything with Randy is fun to watch. But you did a nice job with this one. I love anything with Randy but at the same time it hurts that we don't have a full clear show that we can all have our minds blown from! There's only a few things that are must see for me.. and really anything with Randy or about him is one of those few things. Thank you
I think the whole Tribute Album is life changing. It's crazy that arguably the two most epic solos on that album are during Paranoid and Children of the Grave, which are Black Sabbath songs.
@@caseyrichmond6511 I remember when I first heard that solo and I was in complete awe. It came out of nowhere and I couldn't process what I was hearing, so I had to replay it over and over. It still gives me chills to this day.
Talent with musical sensability, playing always to the song. I wish I was there that day Randy and also Ozzie's makeup artist got on that plane; and tell them "fuck no cocaine and airplanes don't go together!" Miss Randy immensely. He could write such beautiful melody, then tear it apart with a blistering solo. He surprised ya on guitar.
I didn't think I'd get sick but I just threw up. What a fucking legend. Most people say if they had a time machine they would kill Hitler, sorry grandpa but I'd just bring back this guy. Passion.
I started playing guitar the year after Randy was killed.. so almost 40 years Ive been playing.. Randy is my biggest influence of all... I thought I had seen all the videos of him released to date but I have never seen these videos of him.. Where did you find them and is there more of the close up shots as seen here? As far as solos for me that was life changing,, Crazy train, Flying high again, Revelation mother earth, you cant kill rock n roll, steal away,,,,,,,, Well shit,,, ALL of them... everything he ever wrote,, he was a genius... So many call Eddie the greatest,, huge feud for years back in the day of who was greater,,, Although I love them both,,,, Randy's classical mixed with heavy metal spoke to me more than Eddie's kind of 30's swing meets metal style and when you compare song for song the albums while Randy was alive,,,, I love every song on those albums where its I do not on VH,, i skip songs on VH albums... Anyway,, great to see those videos.
It's such a shame to see such a young talented and inspirational guitarist like randy to go at a young age and all I know of him he did play some good stuff with Ozzy Osbourne and black Sabbath also his flying V the only one with spots on it god bless you randy.😊
I will never forget that night in Passaic, NJ at the Capitol Theater, with Lemmy opening up for Ozzy and the Blizzard! A night that I will treasure until I can catch a hug from Randy up above...I will always miss you brother!!!😞 R.I.P.🤟🙏💜💜💜
