Fuses are tweaking at its best and part of getting the best out of your equipment and the snake oil police won't let up, they must not be able to hear there system. Great video.

Another great video TM. I hit the thumbs up just for the title alone. As your timing is perfect. I recently took everything down for a deep clean and discovered (thanks to your videos teaching me about the internals of my gear) Four more fuses in my power amp. Just like you, i have 2 per channel and one for the plug. So I can't wait to hear your thoughts and feedback from 5 fuses! It should, in my mind, make quite a difference.
I'm with you on the fuses. I'm a bit more curious about the added ferrite beads. As usual there are different schools of thought but I'm in the camp that prefers to remove ferrite beads. Their purpose is generally to reduce the radiation signature of domestic appliances to comply with stricter standards on electromagnetic emissions. That's why you don't find them in vintage equipment. They also create an electromagnetic barrier for the signal going through the cable, which is undesirable for analogue audio. For digital audio, it's a different matter.
I found an improvement replacing all of my glass internal fuses with 20mm, 25mm & 32mm ceramic fuses which are sand damped. I had a few of the old 2&3 amp silver wire 25 mm UK plug fuses. I have very large hands so to fit tricky internal fuses i put a strip of paper around the fuse holding a resultant tab. As for being a "weak link" is that not what fuses are meant to be IAN MY HEART HAS DISAPPEARED

Great! But how did you know how the current flow direction were for the fuses on the PCB? Did you Trace the traces before the video? That fluid I haven't seen before, that were a new product for me. Thanks 👍
I couldn’t find pro gold for fuses, and then just search for electrical cleaner and found. DeoxIT Gold G-Series. I’ll add this for anyone else that has the same issue
Love your vids and tips Ian, but im on the fence with pro gold stuff from caig after using there stuff from russ andrews never heard much of a difference to me bit each to there own ears.. ive made a couple of your interconnect cables and was wondering which would you make for a run of 10m ,i have to put my turntable to the other side of the room
Hello David, if you don't want it to cost you not too much, go for the best off the roll interconnect cable video. I've got anther video on interconnects that I'm hopefully uploading over the weekend, that will also work, but you have to handmake it, on 10 metres, it will take you awhile, thanks for commenting & watching, goodluck👍
where does the current pass through first? the fuses! so if you have a better connection there of course it’s going to make an improvement. better conductivity materials and so on
A minor problem with the QUAD is that the +/- power rail fuses are in the wrong place, fitted between the capacitor bank and the amplifier board. If the capacitor ESR is 0.01R and the fuse is 0.1R you see the problem, the PSU voltage gets slightly modulated by the fuse resistance voltage drop. The fuse needs to be before the capacitor so it's resistance is not in the way. You can get different resistances for the same rated current fuse. However this is _very_minor compaired other issues with this amplifier. The QUAD design is simpy stunning, but held back by the conservative engineering. Paying for a _mains_ fuse is dumb all over. You may think it changes the amp, it doesn't, unless you bought a piece of junk. QUAD isn't junk. Fuses are _NOT_ directional, not if you are on this planet anyway. Eng with 30 years of QUAD circuit experiance.
I'm with you on fuses and everything, but how can you touch them with bare fingers before the installing procedure? Don't you know that you introduce grease onto their contacts? Any grease = insulation. Try cleaning them and insert with gloves or fuse pliers.
Hello, I've got some hi fi tuning fuses in my system, I was using them before I discovered these one, & these one are just as good, the bass of of 405 has improved & they still haven't burn-in yet, the Chinese are very good at copying fuses at a fraction of the cost, you should try them👍
I'm sorry you can hear the difference, when switching to audiophile fuses, but it improved the bass of my quad 405, the bass is fuller, as the 405 tends to be a tad bass light, but not anymore, thanks for commenting & watching👍
