What do you mean by effective Leadership KPIs?
Most leaders don’t want to hear this… But your leadership effectiveness is almost wholly dependent on how well you navigate the people and culture.
Leadership KPIs are the measures of success we put in place to gauge how well we’re leading our people at work, and the answers come directly from our team.

The 5 KPIs you need to measure the success of your leadership
eNPS (Employee Net Promoter Score)
eNPS is your ticket to measuring how much your employees are cheering for your company and how proud and happy they are to be a part of your mission.
Here's how you measure eNPS:
Fire off a survey using a piece of software that asks your team anonymously, (OfficeVibe has always been a favourite choice of mine). Ask this simple question:
"Would you recommend this place as a workplace to your friends? Rank from 1 to 10."
Based on their answers from 0 to 10, you'll slot them into three groups: Promoters (9 or 10), Passives (7 or 8), or Detractors (6 and below).
Crunch the numbers: [(Promoters / Total Respondents) - (Detractors / Total Respondents)] = eNPS.
If you're hitting the 50s and above, you're on fire
Employee Satisfaction Index (ESI)
The employee satisfaction index measures your team’s satisfaction with their workplace. Think of it like a deeper dive into eNPS. You can calculate it using values from your employees’ responses to the following questions:
How satisfied are you with your job?
How satisfied are you with the relationship with your manager?
How close is your workplace to your ideal job?
Formula for Employee Satisfaction Index to measure the effectiveness of your leadership is:
ESI = (question mean value / 3) x 100
The result is your ESI, a number between 1 and 100. A higher number means greater employee satisfaction.
Core Value KPIs
Most companies say they HAVE Core Values. But that’s not enough.
Whether you’re a company of 1 or 10,000, Core Values (and, more importantly, how willing you are to hold people to them) will govern the standards at which your company operates when you’re not around.
Core Value Depth - “How much time have you spent learning about each core value this month?”
Core Value Breadth - “How many times have you used each core value with the team, a client or a supplier? (give examples)
If you have 5 core values, you’d expect your team to be showing examples of every core value with one sector of your stakeholders.
Measure each of these monthly with your core values, but I’d suggest spotlighting one core value each month so your entire team can have a heavier focus on each throughout the year to gain a real deep understanding.
Personal Development KPIs
Can simply be measured using the number of hours each member of your team has taken away from their day-to-day work to learn and grow.
It’s often hard to find the ‘time’ to do these things, so it’s our job as leaders to keep them accountable to growing and learning outside of their day-to-day tasks.
Failure KPIs
Failure and growth are what make most entrepreneurs and business leaders successful. If you expect your team to think and act as greatly as you do, you need to allow them to make mistakes like you have.
In order to be an innovative company or team, standing out from others around you, you need to build psychological safety about failure. Your team needs to be able to fail, regularly, without fear of judgment.
