Was anticipating mistake #6.. you have an Exacto knife … just keep pressure on the cut, suppress bleeding while you wait in the emergency room… super glue can seal the cut…

The glue wicking under your fingers hits home when it's thin superglue, and you've just sprayed it with kicker. That stuff gets HOT!!

When Tim put a bottle of IPA on the bench, I hit pause and said 'Ah, hola Vallejo, muy amigo!' and of course I hit the jackpot (should buy a lottery ticket). Anyway, I like Vallejo, even though my Spanish is limited to what I said in previous sentance, and 'Una cerveza, por favor', me and Vallejo get along quite nicely at the bench. I have read some crazy horror stories about Vallejo, but those usually come from this: - what Tim showed right here in this video - using the wrong thinner, Tamiya laquer thinner and Mr. Hobby leveling thinner top the list If you are not sure what thinner to use with Vallejo, do what Kendra said: 'Just add water' Happy modelling everyone!

After painting with my airbrush and Vallejo acrylics I just get a small glass of warm water and pour a little at a time into the cup and repeatedly spill that into the trash, about 3-5 times is enough. After clearing residue in the cup with a swab I'll add a little Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner once and spray it all out. One final time with water to confirm a good spray performance, and If I'm just changing colors, I'm almost always ready to go with the new color after that 20-30 second procedure. I've found this is good enough for the paints and primers, but not varnishes.

I missed this video and have been wondering where you all disappeared to for the past few weeks. Hope they're back soon, but if you're thinking of retooling these I'd think about separating the new model rundown (which I think was how you were doing them before) from the tips and tricks stuff. To me it's just kind of muddied what is going on in each video and makes it harder to find specific things later. But I appreciate whatever you have to offer!

Many, many thanks for this! I did NOT know about the alcohol vs Vallejo issue and was having pretty big problems spraying Vallejo grey primer. The first session went great using Mr. Hobby levelling thinner and a drop or two of alcohol as a flow improver...later sessions did not go so great, then ranging into absolutely horrible.😵 Now I know why. I also had to throw out the pre-mixed primer I made up when I found it turned into jelly after a couple of days in a sealed bottle. Cleaning the airbrush with isopropyl was tedious and not that effective. Great tips, thanks! 👍👍

A good way to help with Micro Sol and Set is to number the lids 1 and 2 so you know which one to do first. Just don't mix the lids up. Another one I heard of is a buddy went to spray a flat coat on his finished plane and picked up an airbrush loaded with flat black paint. He was not happy.

I use a sharpie and put a "1" on the Microset bottle and "2" on Microsol bottle. So for the Tamiya Thin Cement, when the bottle gets below about halfway, the brush won't reach. What do others do? I put a few pebbles in the jar and seems OK but any other ideas?
@dunhill1
@dunhill1 10 месяцев назад
Yes, if you examine the cap/brush closely, you'll notice that the brush tip is simply inserted into the slightly wider tube coming from the cap. It's made of 2 separate tubes. What you can do is carefully grab the smaller diameter tip with brush and pull it a few mm, basically extending it so that it reaches deeper into the liquid cement. For one jar, I replaced the larger diameter tube with an Evergreen "longer" piece so that now the brush reaches and bends on the bottom of the jar so I can get every drop of cement out. Try it and see how it works for you. Happy Modeleing.

So , as far as cleaning your airbrush with isopropyl alcohol after using Vallejo , my favorite paint . You know , back in the day , Polly S was the only acrylic paint we airbrushed . You could thin it with water but it sprayed better when thinned with Isopropyl alcohol . If a newbie to airbrushing for the first time in , say , 35 years , relied on his old , time proven thinning technique how would he clean the mess out of the airbrush ? Asking for a friend... 😉

The laquer thinner in a plastic cup I know all too well. I wanted to thin some paint for the airbrush (black paint, of course) and put put the paint into a cheap little mixing cup, poured in the laquer thinner and the cup did an instant dissolve, the black paint spreading quickly across the workbench #@$%! Since then I've always used a glass shot glass. It stays on the bench: you don't want to mix cocktails with it.

Interesting for sure as a modeller of 20 plus years I have never had an issue using micro sol on paint or varnishes or under my decals! In fact its the only one i use and all my club members use we don't find much use for the vinager set but must be our luck haha! I have both and both of ammos but don't like the place smelling like a chipy tea! Keep it for your fish and chips lol but seriously no never had an issue usimg only sol for both job's i actually have better results for that painted on look and never had silvering either i don't know how that happens usless using set underneath maybe difference in environments or something maybe?

Ohh man the Lacquer thinner in a plastic cup thing!!!! *Sheepishly raises hand* "Guilty!" That is a mistake you only make once and what an ungodly mess did it make! Yep, you get sludge! I discovered that little mess when first using that and AK paint on a CP Air passenger jet. The yellow paint just went 😫😫😫😫. I actually just had to throw out the mixing jar - I couldn’t clean it all. I use the hard acrylic jars one can get from Dollarama (our version of your Dollartree). They are cheap and almost totally indestructible. I use AK thinner for those paints now but I didn’t know water or windex would work - thanks for that advice. AK thinner is ALSO a great paint stripper as well - “Mistake #6”. LOL Now - is it ok to use the varnish with a brush vs an airbrush?

@FineScaleModelermagazine
@FineScaleModelermagazine 10 месяцев назад
I don't run lacquer thinner through the airbrush unless I'm using lacquers. There's really no reason to soak your airbrush parts in any thinner, and wouldn't recommend it, especially if the parts have rubber/silicone seals. If you're having a build-up problem and turn to lacquer thinner as the cleaner of choice, apply it with a pipette, do your cleaning, and then rinse. -TK

@FineScaleModelermagazine
@FineScaleModelermagazine 10 месяцев назад
If you're localizing your Micro Sol to just the decal, you're doing things correctly. If you're brushing the Micro Sol over your clear coat, then we'd recommend you be careful--it can affect it in unusual ways by softening it or clouding it. Remember, Micro Set is essentially paint stripper, although a mild one. A bit run around the edge of your decal isn't going to be a big deal. If you're brushing it onto the clear coat or other paint, then your chances for trouble are going to increase.
