I sure AVGN played them...I wish I kept my SEGA collection: SEGA Game Gear and SEGA Genius. All mint condition...and caring cases all branded by SEGA. All exercise sry that you could want..also in mint condition. About 4 controllers, 2 .....6 bouton SEGA, one with Turbo..., The rest 3 bouton SEGA, . Solid it back in the day for a PS2 and two PS2 games. Teklen 4, and Vertical Fighter 4. Ever since then I have been trying to regret all the games I had when I was a kid.
Plumbers Wear Ties will be on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC... thank goodness the Xbox consoles are sparred from that monstrosity of a game. LMAO. Limited Run games is going to make a physical copy of this abomination, aren't they? LOL. Meanwhile, we can't get re-releases or remakes of great games like Panzer Dragoon Saga. I'll go cry in a corner now. LOL.
Keep up the hard work man. Us older gamers like these lists because we never owned a lot of these systems and would admire them. I always wondered what these systems and games were like....
As the owner of my RGB modded, MNEMO USB 3DO from my teenage years, I’m super happy with my FZ-1. I have most of the library, and like you said, not having the licensing was probably one of the systems downfalls. But there are a few great titles I’ve enjoyed like Road-Rash, Theme Park, Streetfighter II, Samurai Showdown, Gex, Crash N Burn, and even a few more obscure titles like Twinkle Knights, Bust-a-move, Madden Football, NFS, Cannon Fodder, and DOOM. The 3DO is definitely an experience all of its own. Enjoy everyone, and thank you John for another great video, keep it up man 👍🏻
I have as complete a collection as id want for the 3do: Immercenary, Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels, and Starfighter. All three are awesome, two are console exclusives, and the other is the best console port of a PC game, that's difficult to get running.
Literally every one of those games were straight garbage. Great picks for your list. How did people in their right minds even allow this crap to be released to the public?
3DO was certainly interesting, I never had one. Only played it relatively recently. It has my favorite version of Road Rash. Haven't really played much else yet but I'll be sure to avoid these 😂
I still have my 3D0 from back in 93-94 and I can honestly say that have none of these games on your list. Thank goodness for my game mag subscriptions.
I still have my Goldstar 3DO from when I was a teen. My first game I bought with the system was Shadow: War of Succession. Let's just say my first impressions of the system were not good. I think I played Putt-Putt Joins the Parade (pack in game, along with Shockwave) more than this game. I also have Pataank and I agree, it stinks! Luckily I got more good games than bad. Some my favorites at the time were D, Alone in the Dark, Gex, Need for speed and Road Rash.
You will get through it. Stay strong. During my breakup watching super mario maker with ryukahr and seeing his frustration trying to get through custom made levels helped me haha.
I'm confused by one thing: does the player control where the pinball goes, or are you truly just tracking it as it flies around the board? Either way, it sounds unspeakably ill-conceived.
Oh no, Virtuoso. My friends and I were exposed when it appeared on a PC magazine coverdisk back in the day, "Virtuoso bad" became a running joke for the rest of that year.
Magazines at the time said that the main character in Virtuoso was intended to be a stand in. They were supposedly aiming to get a real rock star to play the main character, but if so they obviously failed at landing anyone. That's assuming that Elite and the magazines were telling the truth.
I'm shocked that Cyberdillo wasn't on this list. I will admit I have a soft spot for Pataank!, if only because it's such an out there game. It doesn't deliver entirely but the mode where the tables are all linked to one another by tunnels as you satisfy the level requirements is really interesting conceptually
I remember picking up a 3DO from EB Games back in the day, the clerks gave me a great deal (I was a regular there, even allowed to go in the back area to check out new games not released, or just traded in). I got a used 3DO with two controllers and a light gun for $150 and they threw in 10 games of my choice. Sadly, most of the games on this list were in my hand when I checked out. 😂 I did skip Plumbers Don't Wear Ties when one of the employees told me it is not FMV but still pics. Pataank though, that was one I was excited to try out, and after about 3 minutes, it never went back into my 3DO. I can 100% agree with your list other than Mazer, that one was stolen from the EB Games I shopped at and never got to try it out. A new employee left the game in the box and put it on the shelf and someone stole it. Jokes on them based on how bad the game seems to be. What do you think of Iron Angel of the Apocalypse I and its sequel? Have you played Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller? Nothing like the book but still a fun adventure. All three games were console exclusives to the 3DO and the Iron Angel games were exclusive, not even appearing on PC that I know of.
There were so many piles of steaming excrement for the 3do that I think that's quite hard to narrow down this list to such a small number, LOL! But I gotta give 'em credit for trying to bring some variety to the table, as we were living a new era at that time! Keep up the great work, John!
This is a good (worst) list man. The bell curve for quality 3DO games definitely was skewed left... which is unfortunate because there were some classics as well that people miss because of the general consensus that 3DO was terrible.
I actually like alot of 3DO games! But obviously this list are some of the worst! Its also crazy since AVGN's video, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties is really expensive! And Limited Run are doing a new physical version!
It be great to see the creators of these games going back to finish their creations and presenting a true representation of their vision. Just a thought I believe it'd be cool to see the consoles find a new life. Having games released on past consoles that hadn't existed yet.
Never saw Mazer before. That's knowledge I can't un-know. I personally think the 3DO is better than its post 16-bit, pre-Playstation rival the Jaguar, but it had plenty of its own crummy games. Cyberdillo was among the worst, as I understand it.
The PS2, Wii and DS did have quality control, but that still didn't prevent it from having minimal effort made games on them. Like some other RU-vidr commented it was the unholy trinity of shovelware.
The greatest part of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, is when the announcer is seemingly killed off by a women in a judo gi, only for that announcer to come tf back and shoot her. It's a gd weird game. PaTaank on the other hand is fucking dreadful.
You really don't! 🤣 It was a console that was inbetween generations and they just hadn't mastered the technology. Just be thankful you didn't spend megabucks back in the 90s.
@@darthpunk3510 I enjoyed Road Rash and Return Fire, but a lot of the other games we had on other platforms (Amiga for example). And I never liked those quick time/ FMV type games. Me and my brother had the Panasonic FZ-1 back in the 90s - but as soon as we got the PS1, the 3DO was only used as a CD player.
I think it's a positive when "the worst" games for a system are this cool. Plumbers is cheaply made and a poor effort that's true, but I honestly think the rest of these while cheesy, are very cool. 3DO had a lot of novel ideas in it's library. They don't just feel like something you'd find on a PlayStation or Nintendo system. Some view that as a bad thing, but I like it. I'll certainly take "the worst" the 3DO has to offer, over the forgettable shovel-ware slop that gets churned out on more popular platforms.
I actually did a Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties parody video called Ponies Don’t Wear Ties! After a friend saw it, he or she came up with Dragons Don’t Wear Ties, in which John and Jane are replaced by Spike and Rarity, and Thresher is replaced by a Diamond Dog!
Loved my 3DO!!!! Wing Commander III, Road Rash, and Return Fire were my favorites! Also loved Need for Speed! .... ahhh, more memories. But yes, there were some SERIOUS stinkers!
I was probably the only person that got REALLY good at Pataank, I would never lose the "puck". I tried to see if the score would "roll over" at 1 billion but it just stops scoring at 999,999,999. (I should record doing it again and submit it to Awful Games Done Quick, HAHA)
I kinda like Pataank, has a fast and simple arcade sort of appeal. The frame rate stutter was a real letdown, but I had fun, beat it on easy and haven't really touched it since. Now... Escape from Monster Manor was L-A-M-E. They took a simple FPS like Wolfenstein 3D and somehow boiled it down to an even simpler form. Leaves you with a serious "Is this all there is?" feel. If you liked Wolfenstein 3D and thought it had too many weapons, wall colors and enemy types 3DO got you covered.
Are there any bad games for 3DO you just love? 3DO was my favorite console before the fire took everything I owned. I actually enjoyed PaTaank, but my favorite game was Cyberdillo, which is greatly hated!!
Twisted , crashnburn, way of the warrior, out of this world ,shockwave, wolfenstein, quarantine, guardian war, super wing commander, wing commander 3 ,novastorm, slayer, all great games and many more
I bought a 3do on launch day back in the early 90s. I still remember the shock on the employees face when I walked in with my dad and asked the guy for it. He said you know it’s $700 right and we said yes. Bought it and got Dennis miller’s that’s news to me fmv game also. Went on to buy night trap. Sewer shark. Way of the warrior and Jurassic park before I eventually traded it to a friend. It was a fun system but the controls on way of the warrior sucked ass compared to other better fighter games.
Virtuoso reminds me a lot of that other mess that is Virtual Hydlide. Virtuoso does seem to have a better framerate, but also seems less playable than VH, if that could only be possible ^^ Yup, those 3D and digitised graphics experimentation days were some of the worst :D
Great video! Shadow has gotta be the worst game ever made. I don't really consider Plumbers Don't Wear Ties a game personally. I didn't think PaTaank was all that bad back in the day, haven't played it recently though. I would've swapped out PaTaank and replaced it with either Cyberdillo or Rise of The Robots.
@@johnhancockretro I only ever played Rise of the Robots on 3DO, I can't imagine it being worse lol Knowing that it is makes me want to try it now and see just how much worse off it is. How that gamer ever got a sequel is beyond imagination, yet gems like Skies of Arcadia never got a sequel
Listening to you talk makes me visualize Dale from Step Brothers reviewing games and I'm just waiting for Brennan to bust through the door in the background.
3DO was a mixed bag. It had some quality titles like Street Fighter but also some absolute garbage like Shadow. You pretty much covered the absolute worst games here, but there are some others worth mentioning.
@@MixologistMilo lol, I actually love my CDi. I managed to cop all 3 of the Zelda games and hotel mario for CDi. Those zelda games are not nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be. The problem is the garbage controls and input lag of the CDi controller. I have an extra copy of Wand of Gamelon as well with the case and instruction manual
My favorite part of this is the infamous 3do commercial that dumped the snes and genesis into a toybox. I bet there were people in the 90s playing these shitsterpieces thinking “damn im so grown up”
I have the same sentiments as AVGN. No one I knew owned a 3do. No one at school talked about it either. Everyone either talked about Nintendo or Sega. Later on Sony PlayStation.
I've heard of pataank, seen it in magazines but I heard it wasn't particularly good... the way he says it I wonder if that was supposed to be an onomatopoeia for pinball noises hitting the bumpers and whatnot? clever idea if so. as for PDWT I saw AVGN review it... imagine my shock when the game itself didn't actually HAVE any FMV! I can't fathom why it got revived for modern consoles, but to each his own I guess??
