Hola, es posible colocar un truebypass y conmutar entre pedal de volumen y expression? y si ademas se le coloca una llave on-on para elegir si al momento de pulsar el truebypas cambia a expression o los dos al mismo tiempo?

Hey! Slightly off topic but wondering if you can help me out. I have DVP3 in which the volume control is messed up. It will mute the signal when at the bottom position. Then 85% volume all the way until the top position where its 100% volume. I bought the pedal to do swells and this one can't do that anymore. Any tips?

Hi,Can u help me? This pedal can use with Dunlop Rack wah? Thank you.

Is there a reason why the Dunlop volume doesn’t really kick In (volume wise) till you’re about 60/70% on the push down? And that it’s more of a drastic jump to get that last max volume. To elaborate: I’ve had a volume pedal on my Boss me70 and as soon as you start to swell the volume it gradually starts to go up from 0-100. Whereas the Dunlop kicks in about 60/70 like I said. I want to keep the Dunlop of course. So my question is, would a buffer fix this problem to make the volume kick in at a faster push??

Hi Andrew - I haven't had that experience with any of my Dunlop pedals. I would assume that everything's connected correctly (input vs. output)? Where is it in the signal chain? First thing after your guitar? Try putting a buffered output pedal (like a Boss pedal) between your guitar and the Dunlop and see if that changes anything.

Thank you! Any chance you (or anyone) might know of there's enough room for a toe switch install mod on a Dunlop mvp5 x8? I'm hoping to use it with Helix to toggle between wah/vol. Thanks to anyone who can help.

eh... probably not, I would say. Sorry. Maybe some kind of side-mounted push switch, like the older model Dunlop rocker pedals, like the more feature-rich wah pedals and rotovibe?

Hi Mike. Nice ideas ;) I'm interested in as an expression pedal. How can I amplify the results by having the ability to control 2 devices with one pedal ? Thank you!
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 7 месяцев назад
you'd lose the volume pedal ability, but you could try to wire up one of the other jacks (in, out, or tuner) to the 250k audio (volume) pot. This value and taper may or may not work well as an expression pedal for whatever device you'd connect it to.

Help! Question for everybody ! Would this be able to drop in a Morley1970 chrome volume/wah? I bought it as is dosnt work and is too expensive to repair($ 230,I got as is for $12) I want to use the shell casing tho it has a lot of space inside since it’s an optical wal originally I’d like to actually drop in a volume or wah volume what Volume pedal would be good as a direct drop in with minimum work ? I’d like to keep the Morley enclosure with the foot pedal and make it work with a used volume and add a fuzz at a later date but I really want to just drop it in as is any opinions?
@mikepintoguitar
@mikepintoguitar 5 лет назад
Hi! I advise you to NOT try this. Way too much to deal with - Morley pedals don’t use a potentiometer; they use an optical sensor instead. It would probably be a real feat of engineering to make it work like you want - not a job for a newbie.

hi Mike! i've a question: are there any tone loss with this pedal, with no modifications? i've an ernie ball and i'd like to replace it becouse it has too much tone loss... thank you, cheers
@mikepintoguitar
@mikepintoguitar 7 лет назад
Hi Johnny - not that I've noticed. I typically use it with a buffer in front (either the one I built in myself, or with a buffered pedal in front of it), but I've also used it WITHOUT a buffer in front, and it seems pretty transparent all the way through the sweep.

I’m not sure if this would even be possible, but it would be super useful to mod the vpx so that you can turn the volume function on or off for expression pedal use. Obviously it’s not possible to use the same pedal as an expression/volume. Since they’re both on the same pot, you have to use one or the other. If you somehow added a switch to turn that audio pot off (while simultaneously setting it at max) then you could use the expression function without the volume level being changed! This would eliminate the need to buy a separate expression pedal and save a lot of board space for people, such as myself, who only have a few seldom used pedals that have expression outs. What do you think of this? Is it even possible? I have been searching high and low for a mod that does this and I can’t find anything. You’d think with a volume pedal that also has an expression out it would be a common mod!
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 2 года назад
Yeah this is a great idea, and one I've considered myself. I think it would actually be do-able and not too hard. The rocker does indeed rotate the same pot shaft, but it's a dual-gang pot (the volume controls the 250k audio gang, and the expression controls the 10k linear). The hard part would be finding a place for a switch. I've drilled holes in the front and side of this pedal for small toggle switches, but you'd probably want a foot switch, right? Maybe a tiny little external box with just a foot switch, connected with a cable, like the JHS "red remote." An additional hole could be drilled for a jack, or maybe the tuner out could be repurposed. It would just need to be wired to bypass the volume pot (with a resistor to ground to match the resistance of the volume pot at max).

It's funny you guys are talking about this I was actually trying to find a pedal that already exist because that's what I was kind of wanting. This needs to be a thing somebody get on it I'll buy it.

I use the DVP4 with an external loop switch pedal to bypass the "volume pedal" side , to use the "expression pedal" side, for years now. But i'm realy willing to make this mod that you explain. Did anyone had any success in it? It is a very cleaver way to save real estate in our pedalboards.

Mike, QQ- Im new to pedals and just purchased this unit from advice of a freind. So how does this pedal be used exclusively as a 'volume pedal.' When it's in the down position it's silent but stomped down it's up full- is there something I'm missing? Thx in advance.
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 7 лет назад
Hi! Nope, that's it - the pedal is simply designed to control your volume. There are lots of ways to use it - if you use it early in your signal chain (before overdrive/distortion pedals, or before a distorting amp), you can use it to control the amount of drive, if you use it later in your signal chain, you can simply control your overall volume level; if you use it before a delay pedal, you can create pad-like swells (see my video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EWWy-cUwukE.html, particularly at 5:42 - although you DON'T need to mod it to get this sound; you'll just be creating the electric pad sounds). Etc. Perhaps all these different uses are worth their own video...

Hi Mike! Great stuff! I'm getting the Volume X and I am wondering if I can mod it with a switch to bypass the volume function when using the expression function? Can you make suggestions? Thanks!

Great video man. Thank you.. Iv'e been wondering what would be the best way to be able to use the input and output as a buffered bypass so we can utilise the tuner output and exp without the rocker effecting the volume - if you know what I mean.. ?

Hey Mike, does the internal heel/toe polarity switch work when you don't use the pedal in expression mode? Mine doesn't and i'm not sure if this is normal or if the pedal is faulty.
@mikepintoguitar
@mikepintoguitar 7 лет назад
Hey! The internal heel/toe switch only affects the function of the expression jack, as the expression jack has its own 10k linear pot, so reversing it leaves the volume pedal function (with its own 250k audio pot) unaffected. If you wanted to make the volume pedal work backwards, you could easily rewire it. Go to 1:30 in my video: flip the wires of the outside 2 pot lugs on the 250k audio pot (so, the black and light blue wires). The only problem with this is that the taper might be really weird (that is, the perceived smoothness of volume increase/decrease). It's worth a shot if you want it to work that way! (And if you really liked it, you could easily drill a hole and wire in a little toggle switch to flip on the fly...)

Is there any way this can be used as a expression (for a different pedal) and as a volume pedal somehow in the same pedalboard?
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 6 лет назад
Yes, that should be do-able. You could just try connecting all 3 cables (input & output cables for volume and a cable for expression) and see if it works. It should. But of course, you'll be controlling volume and expression simultaneously whenever you move the pedal. There is a super long thread below about setting up a switch to switch between the two functions.

hey hey. Is there a way to go into between expression and volume functions? I rarely use both. Seems wild to not give the player the option to not choose which function they'd like to use. Thanks, and great vid!

Ah! I had the same question, actually! :-)
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 7 лет назад
Olav Christensen, Ryan Richter - I've been thinking about it, and I think the answer is yes, with a couple caveats. With the switch flipped to "expression" mode, the audio signal would have to bypass the volume pot, with 250k load to ground to simulate the pedal at full volume, toe down position. That's easy. In "volume mode," it's a little tricker, and it's tricker because of whatever pedal is connected to the expression jack - if that pedal is to remain ON (not bypassed) while using the "volume" mode, then this mod would have to be designed to simulate the rocker pedal stuck at a certain position: toe down, or heel down, or even somewhere in the middle. [If the connected pedal is turned OFF (bypassed) when using the volume mode, then this isn't a concern.] Ryan & Olav, let me know more about specifically how you'd use it with a mod like this and I'll try to develop a schematic and maybe even build it.
@olavchristensen7264
@olavchristensen7264 7 лет назад
Awesome! Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'd want to simulate the volume side being on full throttle while using the expression side and then bypassing the pedal with expressions off when switching back to volume! Make sense?

Olav Christensen that's awesome! We're getting close! If that switch could be mounted in the ground, like in a tap box, that'd be the deal

Would you recommend this pedal over the classic GCB80 High Gain?
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 7 лет назад
Well I've never actually used that pedal, so I can't say for sure - but I have used many wah wah pedals (Crybaby and Vox) built in the same housing as the GCB80, and I can't imagine the feel of it being as rich or confidence-inspiring as the Volume X, with so little travel from heel to toe. I could be wrong. For me, until the Volume X came out, the best volume pedal choice was the Ernie Ball family - the full size one, and the juniors.
@TheSmartGuitarist
@TheSmartGuitarist 7 лет назад
I should say - I do have a Mission Engineering expression pedal, which is a very similar design to a wah-wah style housing, and it feels good. But not as good as the Volume X.

7 years later and there still isn't anything of value out of Dunlop on their (shitty volume pedals). thanks for you efforts - it looks like the only way to have a decent pedal here is too do all the work yourself.

Don’t bother Mod this rubbish. It will fail mechanically immediately on contact. The thin film strip they use to rock the pedal snaps and renders it unusable and obsolete. Buy from a manufacturer that has pride in its development. This company is clownsville.

Thanks for your opinion; I've found these Dunlop pedals to be quite reliable, actually.
