Another key tip is ; dont look at the entire animal, always pick a spot ie a scar or patch of mud or a particular point, focus only on that point, this will stop alot of the nervous tension by having a focal point.

Lilly is so very good at so many things that are useful but, trust me, Lilly is "scary good" with her bow and arrows. This is her niche, her real talent. So anything she has to say here is bound to be valuable. Thank you Lilly!!!

Good to see you in the woods again. Without a light color, you will lose lots of arrows, even if you know exactly where you shot them. It's archery deer season here in North Carolina USA. The problem is that the deer read the regulations and know it is hunting season, LOL. They are very destructive to crops. And, they only come out at night during moonlit nights.

I took Archery in college back in the early 90s. I had lots of fun and it gave me an excuse to get a new bow. Great archery tips, Lilly. I never thought about using white nocks so you can see the arrow flight. I also took Riflery (.22) if you can believe that. But that was in the early 90s. I'm sure they "canceled" that course. Lol. We were the last generation to have fun.

You can almost double your distance by face walking. For example if you put your middle finger to the corner of your mouth as a normal anchor..then when you have a further shot that is beyond your range.. you can get more distance by putting your index finger to the corner of your mouth. Everyone has a different set up so you have to see what your point on distance is with normal anchor and then see what your point on is with the lower anchor. 🤘

Dear Lilly , 1st --> try to hold the bow in position until the arrow hits the target // this will train your muscle tension & muscle memory and helps to keep your T-shape more stable) - this will lead to a more consistent grouping 2nd --> check your anchor / release - you`ll always pull away your hand when releasing the string. Just loosen your finger tips to release (hand remains at the cheek) - that will also lead to a much more stable shot and arrow grouping results as well. just mentioning ;)

I love you Lilly (in a friendship way), you're one of the coolest survivalist/preppers. I've been shooting archery since I was a little kid and my dad's friend had built me a very small compound bow. Later in life I started making PVC bows for children and learned a lot from Nicholas Tomihama (The Backyard Bowyer), he is also an expert on slings, para-cord projects, and PVC flutes. I've also been watching the Canadian Prepper site every day for your "Lilly Messer" but so far no updates yet. I suspect once Nate releases them, they will be sold out within hours. You have a really good point about shooting at various elevations (higher and lower), when you're hunting you need to be prepared for all sorts of odd conditions. I've watched my dad bow hunt for deer and it's not an easy thing. It's not uncommon to shake a little bit while you're hunting because of the adrenaline rushing through your body when there's a real animal you're shooting at..

Thank you for your tips. Every bit helps. I have mainly been a compound bow shooter and am transitioning to a longbow. Eventually I want to be able to hunt with it. Some of the things I have learned is 1. Double your practice distance to the actual distance you want to take an animal. 20yds is my max so will practice at 40yds. 2. Aim where you want the arrow to exit and not the spot you want to hit. When in a tree stand or elevated position aim low. I would put my 20yd pin right at the bottom of the chest this cover the angle and the deer ducking. I live in the Southeast corner of Colorado on the plains. Thank you again. You have a lot of good info. You keep it simple and explain yourself very well.

I really enjoyed your video, which shows the reality of archery. @Survival Lilly Hi Lilly, I've only recently begun watching your videos in the past month and I really like the variety of your content. Also like seeing your dogs you put in some of your videos :) I've been toying with the possibility of getting a bow for some time now, but I feel I need to do more research on type, quality, etc. However, seeing this video of yours has reignited my interest in it once more. Over here in Ontario Canada we also have lots of green space to target practice in. BTW I've already "Liked" "subbed" & smashed the "Notify All" buttons Keep up the great work and I'm glad your videos popped into my feed ! 🙂

Hi again, Lily. I have really enjoyed watching you improve your archery skills and knowledge over the past few years. And because you have so openly shared both your struggles and your progress with us, my own shooting has improved. Thank you for that. What I'm wondering is now that your accuracy and consistency have grown so good-from all distances and angles-are you and your husband planning a trip to a country where you can actually bow-hunt for game (like perhaps deer)? In my opinion, at least, you are more than well prepared to test your shooting in actual hunting situations. In any event, keep up the great work. Chris (Maine, USA)

I like to use fluorescent orange fletching on some arrows. I also use helical combined with straight fletching for extra wind drag. When shooting up into trees they wont go as far because of the extra wind drag. With the orange they are easy to find when they go so far. They will go about 100 yards. Regular fletched arrows usually go about 150 yards when you shoot them on a 45 degree angle. Some types of "flu flu" fletching will drag the arrow down more with a shorter range than 100 yards. They are typically just as accurate. I don't use them for hunting usually unless it is squirrel hunting. You can see the orange in flight very well so you can see if your off on aerial targets. I enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
