Ditto, who complains about dash controls??? Sounds like a Cascadia trained driver, you don't deserve a beautiful W9 if your gonna bitch about the best features. Lol 😆
You have engine on the WHEEL??? I have cruise on the wheel and I *LOVE* it. I hate the three stage lever behind the wheel and I LOVE it. As for those on the dash, it’s okay but I prefer it to be behind the wheel. Not sure I’d want it ON the wheel though O_o
Petty things that could be changed ....the main thing is to get to the truckwash and get that dirty thing polished up and hit the chrome shop for some shiny things 🤣🤣🤣
I've got a 98 w900L. Looks like yours is better than mine was. I took the left side stop out, which controls the right side and it will cut really deep to the left now. But you cannot take the left stop out because when you turn to the right, your tire will rub on the steering sector. For some reason Mr Dot doesn't like that. You can still adjust it so that your left tire barely clears the steering sector that will give you a whole lot more turn.. just be careful if you do that, be sure your airlines and wires are long enough to reach when you turn all the way.. try it you might like it.
I have a w900. I went to lowes and picked up a pvc pipe connector, take the bottom of your cup holder from the truck in with you. The pvc will raise the height of your cup holder. If you cant live with the white pvc wrap it in a cricut sheet.
Or paint it. Better yet, go to a custom shop, spednd a couple hundred and get the best unit you can get that holds any size cup and various other things as well. DMC in Southern Utah did mine.
@@truckerron Agreed on a shop job. If you're gonna do this stuff, get a little money and make it a nice ride! You wouldn't wanna live in a house with PVC sticking out of the walls, why do it to your truck?
Dunno if they have them in the states, but here in Australia you can get PVC downpipe adaptors for roof gutters. All diff shapes and sizes and perfect for making consoles more usable
One of the only things I like about the newer Pete's is they moved your trolly brake to the dash and put the jake brake off the side of the wheel where the trolly brake used to be it took alot of getting used to but now i don't even think about it and it's right there to just slide it on and off as you need it
Funny you say that about the switch for the jakes. I’m in a W9 with jake brakes on the steering wheel, I prefer them on the dash like the Pete I drove. I have to press hard on the steering. It’s a quick on/off when it’s on the dash
You could purchase the shifter with the jake buttons on shifter. I've loved all of my W9's but the main thing I hated about them was the Knee Busting step to Cab distance.
I like a little delay in the jake brake for that reason. 2 seconds or so. Some of the newer trucks allow you to program it with a laptop. I've seen the manual mention it in a few company trucks I've had
Intro reminds me of my T680. There are a few things they could have, and probably should have done better but as a whole it's a net positive improvement over my Frieghtliner.
My KW t600 has terrible turning radius as well. I really heard from an old school driver that KW has 25% less turning radius than the others. Not sure how true. Good video.
yeah us Aussies got rid of the W900 in 1993 when the T900 came out but we never had them problems with our trucks apart from the high top air cleaners that makes a blind spot a bit
I love my 2007 W-900 daycab. It’s weird how your jake brakes and windows are because mine aren’t like that. I agree with the cupholder thing it is quite annoying. It doesn’t fit any of of my Starbucks cups.
If you float, when your shifting with your jakes on try using your left foot and just push the free play on the clutch it’ll disengage your jakes now not far just where there’s that inch or so in the pedal try that and let me know
I have had success with letting off the gas but keeping just a small amount of pressure on the fuel pedal. So it's enough to still float, but the Jake's don't kick on. Doesn't work all the time
There’s a shift knob that is identical to the 13/18 speed shifter but has a lighted toggle switch for the Jake brakes on the opposite side as the side splitter so you can engage and disengage Jake’s while shifting. I run a 379 legacy long hood and a 379 short hood and the short hoods somehow got you beat on bad turning radius. I’m debating on a w9 but I’d have to run it a bit first the hood looks great from outside but I’m a little unsure from the inside. Probably wouldn’t be as bad if I remove the bug shield on it
Mid roof w9 is about the best looking truck on the road. But after running a lot with one and a 6nz 379 doing specialized super heavy. It's Pete all day.
@@DavidSmith-ev1bd I’ve got nothing against the w9 I’m just used to the 379 and the flat top weight is a bit nicer but both are beautiful trucks and get my respect
Be glad you have a wood steering wheel, a nice hood, and a manual transmission. The modern wheels have obnoxious wear, the teardrop hoods are fugly, and winter is extremely difficult to drive in with an automatic.
That Jake button, can get cancelled out; by simply resting your foot on the clutch. Don't ride it, just rest it. That activates a switch to cancel out the Jake
You shouldn’t have bought an old worn out, out dated W900. The 2007’s and up all those things are different. And if you can really drive you wouldn’t ever need to turn the jakes off.
Wonder what drivers did, before Jake's were in all trucks??? Drove 32 years, and most of that time, never had trucks with Jake's. Never had 13ft 6 in. gearshift either.
You now know you are a SHEEP who can only drive a PLASTIC AERO piece of $hit! Thank you for staying OUT of the cool trucks. We don't need you SHEEP in them! The W900L can be ordered with an 86" STUDIO Sleeper which is bigger than ANY standard Plastic Aero sleeper.
I have a 2000 W900L and it’s something I regret most days. it looks decent, but impractical and uncomfortable in a lot of ways, especially for a taller person like myself. minimal interior room and hate the clutch system and steering assembly in this thing. hopefully can change trucks in the near future.
😂 new driver old truck as far as the turning radius that can be adjusted! Try turning with a 58 ft stretch tri axle rgn! I’d love power windows but don’t want a newer truck lol looks like a Jones hood maybe in your future good luck with her you really have a beautiful truck
If you know basic electrical soldering (I'm self taught since a kid, but don't know your skill level on learning new techniques), you can easily rewire everything. Leave your switches up there for other purposes. Be sure to throw out that crap radio. Get a Joying head unit. Research them for your best fit. Your GPS can be built on it as it runs on an android base. Please do not use Sony, boss alpine or Kenwood if you want the best experience for your buck
lol my 03 had same window switches..was stupid, they got smarter my 2010 hasem on doors.Learn to swing it with w9.its not a plastic trk.my mechanic messes with steerin box makes it turn sharper, but will rub your brake lines..
I love my 99 W900 86” studio my girl weighs 24,000 pounds 18 over 1MM 600 pushing 650 she will raise left front off the ground and smoke drives if I want her to just put new competition head on help her breath better.
I’ve been in my 07 freightliner classic from 2008 to last month. Just bought an 06 w900. The freightliner was was more comfortable and turns way sharper. Lol. Turning right is even worse.
@@silversurfer5920 No they're not. It's only the MORONS who order them new that don't have a clue. You order the wide track option and viola... sharper turning radius!!
@@Carstalgia yup definitely. They sell them on Amazon. Just need some wire and a couple connectors to move/extend the wiring from its current spot on the dash to the shifter.
You know you can just hold slightly on the pedal instead of coming all the way off it to stop the jake from engaging so you don't have to turn it off while you shift.
Ok so for the jakes on the dash… I Absolutely HATE them on the steering wheel like I have… the button is on the right side for me and when I’m turning I have to chase the button while I’m trying to pay attention to the road where as on the dash it’s always in the same spot also for the window buttons they are lovely for me because the doggos can’t get to them
I don't know why you need to switch your engine brakes on and off while down shifting. If I'm getting up to speed on the freeway or i know i will be driving a while before slowing down i will turn them off, but other than that they stay on.
I concur. I LOVE a kw900 or pete 379, but they do have drawbacks. Thats why i went with a prostar. Its not the greatest, like the power mirror controls are on the door where i love to rest my arm. But i can make alot of tight turns for when im in the cities. Every truck has ups and downs. I wish i could design my own truck right from the assembly line and make it exactly how i want. But even then, its going to have ups and downs. But. You gotta love the one your with. Lmao
You're complaining about an OLDER truck! Most of the issues have been resolved on the NEWER trucks! Regarding the turning radius, you can order the WIDE TRACK option and it will turn much sharper. You could order the electronics on the steering wheel, though for me... I HATE that! I like ALL switches on the dash so then I can have a Custom steering wheel.
So, In other words. These things you hate, where not Self evident when you did your pre - purchase Inspection. Didn't they teach you to be aware these things , at Chuck Wagon Truck Driving School.
W900 doesn't have near the turning radius of those Volvo themed trucks, for a newer driver these Volvo near Hanover trucks have a huge advantage when backing ,making U turns, and enhanced vision , ,they don't make Volvos with CUMMINS anymore but if you could find one with a 13 or 18 spd its like gold, city driving will better a quaint you with your trucks capabilities and refine your backing skills, not to mention the aerodynamics of these Volvo style trucks affords better fuel economy so 13 or 18 spa Tran 2007 or older CUMMINS, is how I'd go.
First clean the inside trashey wash it. You got an older W900 probably several years old your 5 things don't exist if have the newer ones so don't complain
Hey bloke a good not great driver can drive all day or night n not worry about turning Jake brake on or off he or she knows how drive with it turned on n the Jake won't engage or make changing gears hard or make you look like an AMETEUR just practice bro
I just want to know one thing??? Who in the hell thought it was a good idea to put the foot feed on an angle like that?????? I drove a W 9 B model Areodyne for a friend to St Louis once. The most uncomfortable thing I have ever driven! My back hurt so damn bad by the time I got to Indianapolis I was ready to sell it for scrap and take a bus home! Drove a T 800 a bit. Same damn thing. Worthless! Yeah they look cool but I wouldn't have one for any reason! Just my opinion of course.
