This was soooo good! Another key tip for new dads is to not be to hard on yourself! You are doing good and your kids love you. Just knowing that you found this comment I can tell that you are trying to do good by your family! Relax and enjoy the ride!

Great stuff. Thanks for posting. In summary... Tip 1: Give toddler smaller portions Tip 2: Love Conquers anger - get down to their level, open arms, empathize. Tip 3: Messy play areas ok; spurs creativity Tip 4: You are allowed to NOT play with your kids Tip 5: Create special rituals / routines (occasional treats, e.g. video game time, pizza / movie Friday, walks after school.

Great tips! Thank you for this! I read something this week that really resonated with me: your power as a parent does not lie on being louder, stronger or older. Your power is in your calmness. If you learn how to remain calm when it feels like your kids are losing it. You win. Every single time.

I wouldn't say your calmness is your power its being wise enough to know when you should be calm and when you should be loud. Too many people take this approach to the extreme and try to be calm no matter the situation. There are situations where being loud is warranted and even necessary.

Something I figured out early on was to lower my expectations. My kid doesn't know. When she tears up paper and makes a mess, she has literally never torn something up before, she is learning what that is like and the consequences. When she gets rough with our pets, she doesn't know any better, she is learning how to behave in this world. When I stopped expecting basically anything from my daughter besides that she grow and slowly understand our guidance and discipline over time I became a much better dad.

Awesome video. Hope you do more toddler focused videos as I'm in the early toddler stages. I've got a 15 month old. A fun ritual we've started to do every once and awhile before bath time is chase each other around the house. He's up and moving pretty quick so I'll either let him chase me or I'll "run" after him. He loves it, laughs the whole time, and it wears him out before we start the bedtime routine. Also gives mom a a moment to herself if she's coming off a full day of work/dinner/etc.

Great advice, I love seeing guys help support each other through this amazing journey of fatherhood. Another thing I would add for us guys because I know a lot of us struggle with this: Tell your kids you love them EVERY day and how grateful you are to be their dad. Get on their level and touch their face. LOTS of physical touch with your little ones.

Great tips for feeding and descalating your child's temper. My husband uses those types of descalation methods at his job and has even helped me calm down this way.

This is amazing!!! Had a moment with my son today when he was giving my wife a tough time. And I had the temptation to go angry into the situation. I ended up going with an understanding but stern/directive approach (most importantly not angry) and I saw his response was way better than if I had gone in angry. These tips are universal!

That tip 2 portion i can vouch for that, My daughter is special needs, she has delayed learning. she is 12 but has the mind of a 5 yr old. When she is getting seriously frustrated, just like Dad Verb guy said. It looks logical to me but not to her, but i get down give her a hug, and then talk to her and help her out.

During Xmas for one of our advent ideas we did a glow stick bath and the kids loved playing in the bath bubbles with their glow sticks. Changed up bath time a bit and definitely will be something we incorporate more. Loved all the tips! Thanks for sharing!

Honestly man, it's hard for me too. But at least the tip is out there so guys can be more conscious of the tactic. But it's definitely not easy and some kids are just wired to be tougher to handle.

Thank you so much for your video's. It has helped me a ton. My son is two and our nightly routine is dinner, bath, and then 30-45min of wrestling/rough housing. He has so much energy and only sleeps about 6 hours at night (which i am told i was the same) I have to help him release that energy otherwise its 4hours of sleep up at midnight to play and back to sleep at 2 until 6am. It varies but i am sure there are others out there have similar issues. I was a light sleeper as a baby and never was a napper even to this day at 43 i can't sleep until its bed time. I am alseep by 9 and up at 4am with out an alarm and my boy is falling quickly into that same routine.

While the tips for leading with love are great, in the situation where the kid is being rude towards mom, negative reinforcement is appropriate, but it has to be done correctly and consistently. The problem is that parents are usually really random with when they correct with anger. They usually get mad so often kids can’t really understand what they did wrong. Choose your battles carefully and then be 100% consistent with those. Nice tips.

With serving sizes I often found that putting a couple of bites at a time out for them ultimately resulted in more food eaten than if I'd put a full plate of food out. And like he mentioned if they didn't eat then less went to waste.

Is it me or this guys voice sounds very similar to Ryan Reynolds’s ? Lol my man good tips! As a Spanish brother myself I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. I have 2 under 2 and some days it’s just insanity BUT thanks to God who gives my wife and I the patience and love to continue. 100% helps a ton to get on their level and acknowledge their emotion, I’ll often get my toddle mid tantrum to settle down when I say something like, “hey I can see your upset? It’s no fun when -blank- doesn’t go the way you wanted right ?” I have a new level of respect for my parents and how tough that was to raise me and 7 others 😅

What If their feelings aren't accurate, should we still be validating wrong or inaccurate feelings? Or trying to explain to them what happened in reality vs in their perception?

Feelings are subjective. There’s no “wrong way” to feel. It may be based on inaccurate information, but feelings are valid regardless of perception. It’s our job as parents to help them learn how to manage them vs. just suppressing them or telling them that their feelings are “wrong”.

I've got a question. My 2 year old still can't talk yet and so when she gets angry she proceeds to hit me. I've been trying to combat this, but time outs are not working. Any advice on how to encourage her to express her anger without the hitting?

Jocelyn, I highly recommend baby sign language! There are many videos on it and Google images of charts! It took my one year old two to three days to learn one, don't know if she's a fast learner but they learn it so quickly! She knows "more", "water", "milk" etc, and you can come up with your own too! It helps them communicate with you and makes the whole thing less frustrating for both you and baby, I promise! x
