Recently I listened to a debate concerning abuse in the LDS church. It turned out to not be a debate, instead both sides just stated their talking points. However, it did get me thinking about whether there is abuse in the LDS church and how I would define it.
00:00 Introduction
00:22 What Is Abuse
01:45 1. Pay to Access God
04:52 2. Must Accept Doctrine
08:39 3. Shunned by Group
11:19 4. Hide Abuse
15:12 5. No Common Consent

I want to expressed to you, my dear dear friend, how appreciative I am for your honesty, courage, and willingness to always speak the truth. I sat in Sacrament meeting today, and listen to my bishop, singing, the praises of elder Renlund. I couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit because he couldn’t pronounce it correctly, and it sounded more like elder Ridellan. The narcissism of our church leaders is off the charts as well as their egos, and they believe that they are teaching us correct principles. It’s become a church for people who have been so dumb down, that communism in all its forms is widely excepted within the church itself. We are told to take vaccines and all the other abominations that we have been shown. I can’t help but believe that the Lord will truly contend with his brother in the days ahead, and I am grateful to know him as I do and I know that you know him to.

Thank you. I believe I shared this before, however I will never forget a Stake Conference we had where a seventy went through the list of apostles and described all their worldly accomplishments. This was to show us how great men they were and how we should follow them. I am not sure why anyone would think this was a beneficial thing to do.

Joseph Smith taught that people should pay their own way, manage their own finances to the best of their ability, get on their feet and stay there, and after their bills were paid if they felt like they could contribute to the tithing fund of the church then they should do so. It was Mr. Brigham who changed things drastically after Joseph and Hyrum were murdered. It must be understood also that Brigham did not take over the reins of the Lord’s church. Brigham did not step into the same shoes that Joseph Smith was wearing as a prophet of God. Brigham simply convinced a portion of the lost sheep, who had just lost their shepherd, to follow him west. It’s imperative to understand that the restored church of Jesus Christ that Joseph founded was one thing, and the church that Brigham Young founded in 1844 were two completely separate and distinct churches. Brigham kept the name as he tried to claim the church’s property also. Emma, the rest of the Smiths, and 60% of the membership did not go with Brigham because they knew he was a fraud. They also didn’t appreciate him claiming that Joseph was a polygamist. Joseph Smith was chosen by God and called to be his prophet. Brigham Young was never called by God to be his prophet or to lead any portion of the Saints west. Brigham became the richest man west of Chicago because of his iron fist and his tyrannical tithing policy. As well as his ability to murder anyone willing to disagree with him.

@@uncorrelatedmormonismI agree with your statement. It’s amazing how people just take comments out of context. It’s obnoxious how members cherry pick what to follow from the prophet or not. Although I had a conversation with you to figure out where you stood, let me remind everyone that I’m going to disagree with people here but I’m civil. But some people here, unlike you, seem to think it’s ok to question my integrity and intentions here. I do so when I get mixed messages which many channels run by Church members do so. Many speculate about many topics from the Second Coming to past statements by previous prophets of the Church. It’s not that I want to judge or assume these people on their channel are not good members of the Church. It’s my right to ask questions and comment on their videos. It’s to help me understand them. Obviously I have a lot of discontent and frustration with members who can’t tell me they know the Church is true. They often seem more interested in going off on tangents with topics with heavy speculation and often spouting misinformation and false doctrine and do so often by what political party they belong to. Too many members just argue and find fault with me because they browbeat me into forcing me to agree with them. How unChristlike. It doesn’t matter if we are talking about Trump, the Second Coming, agency, elections, common consent, or whatever it is. But if they leave the Church, they comment and criticize the Church for its doctrine, refusing to take responsibility for their own actions. Social media is a cesspool of hate and division and propaganda and when I see members repeatedly promoting hearsay, false doctrine, political propaganda, hate, name calling and speculation, it makes me wonder how they call themselves members of the Church. Have Church members forgotten President Nelson’s talk from last April on civil discourse? Speaking for others is another form of gossip. I’m glad I don’t use Facebook any longer. Dealing with church members on it has been irritating at best. Always like the political left, know it alls. Always correcting others. Even here. Calling out a bishop for mispronunciation of Elder Renlund’s name and then bringing politics into it to justify his hate for the Church. It’s apparent to me that a lot of members of the Church need to repent and stop promoting false doctrine, speculation and promoting contention on social media. Promoting views inconsistent with Church policy is wrong also. I believe the prophet was speaking revelation that the members needed to vaccinated from COVID. As Trump said, minus the curse word, What the **** do you have to lose. He is right.

@@donaldjones9830 Yes, it does seem there is so much garbage on social media and the internet in general. Nothing here is abusive. It is an organization that you think should be run your way and you're mad they don't change things for you. The Church does better than most organizations and Churches in preventing abuse. It covers its bases from a legal stand point. Occasional lapses in judgment and procedures happen, but it is not systemic abuse. You even claimed the Church should use its power and influence (that you just condemned previously) to change laws they are required to follow, after they break those laws. @@uncorrelatedmormonism The scriptures come from the prophet through God, think the Word of Wisdom. By the way, there is a difference between a generalized topic on a video and a story of that topic as the reason for the topic. At first I didn’t realize you were coming from a specific story on the topic. The thumbnail should have reflected that. Instead it looks like you are blaming the Church and accusing it of encouraging abuse. Because of that, your thumbnail is not only misleading, it reflects poorly and dishonestly and disrespectful on your part. The people in the Church are not the Church. The Church is a vehicle. The fact that another person on here agreed with me while doing so independently of my comments while I never noticed his comments till after I commented, means that people are upset with how you presented the topic. Not finding fault here, I’m merely pointing out an observation. Technically it’s against RU-vid rules to mislead people with the thumbnail topic. There is no way the Church encourages abuse and that includes tithing or any doctrine. The Church condones and condemns all forms of breaking the law including the laws of other countries. To do a video that implies the Church encourages any violations of the law, when you know that there is dishonest members who do so in which the leadership must deal with, if they know about it, simply is dishonest on your part. I agree the topic is one of disgust and is sensitive. But one should be more honest and not blaming the Church leadership for what you think is abuse. It sends the message the Church is bad and encourages others to leave it by commenting how members that leave telling stories that either they were victims unfortunately of it, or accuses someone unfairly of it, in which they decided to leave by thinking that means the Church isn’t true. Unfortunately no member is perfect, but our actions can and do affect how others see the Church. It’s ridiculous that I must point out certain things to people in the Church regardless of whether they create a post, channel or comment. I do think that following the teachings in the scriptures is part of following the prophet. I’m not here to judge anyone, but I’m disappointed that members just don’t get certain things. One doesn’t get to decide what constitutes doctrine, what doctrine they will follow, or inserting politics to justify how they follow doctrine or policies of the Church. Have a good week. Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate your content, regardless of whether I agree with it or not
@donaldjones9830

@@uncorrelatedmormonism Also, thank you for telling me that people wanted you to be dishonest and whitewash it. It helps when people are honest. You called them out. But I think the video could have been handled better. Now that you know they coerced you, remember they are not the Church or the leadership. Coercion by disregarding of agency of others is abuse. Do we always respect the agency of others? Are we always honest with ourselves and others? The real irony is all sin involves three things, 1. Pride, 2 Coveting and 3 Lying. It means the 10 Commandments are bloated when God could just tell us all sin involves those three things. This admission is why this conversation was necessary. Not knowing things about the topic or your reasons left me questioning your membership and motives in the first place. Knowing more now is very useful. I commend you for that. That is how you get people to listen to a video and agree with you, is by being honest including with the thumbnail. But we need to encourage people who comment on said videos to do the same. I think we both learned something about each other from this conversation here. I’m finished with the video and will leave it alone, barring more comments from others who think they understand where I’m coming from when they don’t.
