Flying is my passion as well as engineering and I really like to understand how things work. Aircraft maintenance makes flying safe and more reliable so I try to ensure that I look after my engine. The video covers in a very basic level the checks that are required to be carried out.
The vlog set up has been developed over the years and I'm now happy with how is works. If you have any more questions, please drop them in the comments.
The WALBRO Carb ( WG3A) has taken a while to set up after its last rebuild but I'm now confident I have the correct settings for a smooth mid range. The Vittorazi MOSTER silent version being non-clutched ie direct drive, is a little different in the settings but its so nice to actually have it respond in the way that we want to fly.
My PeaBee radio and communications set up is:
ICARO Solar X Helmet with MicroAvionics PM100 Bluetooth (Vlog modified by MicroAvionics)

Just did my 50 hr. Not too much carbon build up but the decompression port was completely blocked. All nicely cleaned up now and Iridium plug fitted but not flown since. Been running at 40:1 but will reduce to 45:1 from now on. Also fitted CHT gauge and will be fitting low fuel level warning lights after nearly running out of fuel on one recent flight.
@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 2 года назад
Hi Nicolas, I know you're a sootie background but 40 and 45:1 is still too lean a ratio. 50 and 66:1 on Motul 800 will give much better performance and lower temps as you have more fuel, even Vittorazi suggests 66:1 on there website. I've only ever used 50:1 for brake-in, then 66:1 there after.
@NicholasStreet
@NicholasStreet 2 года назад
I was going off the manual which says 33:1 for first 15 litres and then 40:1. It’s the same in the online manual. Obviously it must be ok to run an increased ratio as the proof is in the pudding but I can’t find any reference to it.

@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 2 года назад
I do like listening to music when I fly, I did the same thing when I rode motorbikes, it adds to the flight or ride. I have seen your other comment, I just need a better keyboard to put my thoughts down. The PeaBee is a unique aircraft for landing.
@whisperingeagle
@whisperingeagle 2 года назад
@@GolfFoxtrot22 thanks giles. I like the pea bee . I fly a simular north wing solairus atf soaring trike. Simular to the pee bee. The difference is Atf has bigger wheels and beefier landing gear. But still very light wing loading. Where i live here in western montana i have lots of options for landing outback. Landing on riverbanks and medows. So my second comment maybe i said to much. But basicly what iam saying is that after turning final managing your airspeed thru decent thru the bar(attack of the wing) to the roundout greatly decreases your risk and greatly improves you landing . And gives you more power thru the throttle when you need it. Most pilots carry to much energy at the mains touching in there flare. Btw i really liked you using a higher oil ratio. I've thought of doing that. Wondering how that would add to the life of the engine. Should give you an edge in power up after long idle.

Giles on that landing it look to me you were using throttle. It seemed you had a bit much energy and dropping the throttle at your round out. Not sure hard to tell. Being an x hang glider pilot i almost always am off throttle after my turning base. Managing airspeed thru the bar. Dropping throttle off at round out can be dangerous on a trike. (Not saying thats what you did). Biggest thing i see is pilots landing with excessive energy. If its turbulent a steeper glidescope managing asi thru the bar cuts you down thru the turbulence than after round out in ground effect you can use burst of throttle to manage the gusts. Anyways would like to here your thoughts on that. When i flew down in Australia i found that there are many different ways ideas at proper landings. I was shown a crosswind technic of coming straight in to the wind on a cross wind landing and touching the downwind main and it turns you straight to the runway. Although i would not endorse it for newbies it works. Larry Mednick showed me a way to get some yaw out of a trike wing and that was interesting. But hands down nothing boils down better than landing in thermic conditions As my hang glider days.
@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 2 года назад
I've rewatched the landing against your comments. What is not obvious is the runway has quite a dip at the beginning and always makes the aircraft drop through so to correct to I add power. As it was gusty, I came in on a powered approach and let off the power at the Lat 3 feet, I was then picked up a little and tried to flare it out. It wasn't heavy, it just wasn't pretty. I appreciate your comments and will read it a few more times to fully understand what you are trying to articulate. With eh PeaBee I generally come in on a powered approach as it lands very flat, if you don't it likes to land on the nose wheel first.
