That method of removing the shackle was a nice surpise! They could create this code with a milled body and to remove the core you would need to remove a bolt under the long edge of the shackle. That would still be technically a replaceable core lock but taking it apart would require picking the lock instead of using a key. (Of course, if you're willing the destroy the key, you could just make a suitable cut to allow the key to turn into reverse direction from the start.)
I just bought and picked one of these today, it’s on the reddit sub. But my question is about the cylinder, the one I have is very sticky to turn, even with the key. I can’t tell if yours is the same way or if I just need some lock lube.

The spinner is made by Peterson. It's not the best one out there, but it fits in my pick case, so it's always better than the one I don't have with me.
Be careful choosing a plug spinner. Some use a plastic locking tab that will wear out quickly. I believe L.P.L. and B.B. both share info on them. Get what you pay for.
Hi, your videos are great and your expertise amazing. But i am interested in something different. I'm impressed with the visual quality of your videos and wondered which camera you are using. I would love to see a video of your set up as watching your videos I can see that they have become increasingly better lit. By the way I've been a photographer during my working years. Great stuff keep it up.
A very nice looking laminated lock and as expected from Commando very well made :). Like the feature with the interlocking plates for more strength :). The only thing which I don't understand is, how is someone who can not pick that lock going to change the shackle? Hmm, or maybe it just has that feature without intension ;D.
The changeable shackle isn't a feature... just a consequence of using the same parts across multiple product lines. An non picker's only way the change the shackle would be to file a key, or remove the rotation limiters from the lock.
I got a bunch of high end security seals, made of aluminum with 1/4 inch steel cable "shackles" the cable is inserted into a hole in the body and it doesn't slide back out, would you like me to mail you a few to see if you can defeat them?
usparktalk - Light. Very light. The core has no spring tension, so it’s much easier to inadvertently bind (which effectively renders the pins unmovable).
@@RealWorldPolice Thanks. I just started trying to pick it again after a few months of not touching it. I tried using nearly no tention and then started hearing clicks. That was the first time I heard those clicks from serrated pins. Haven't picked it all the way yet but I figure if I keep working at it I should get it in a few months.
My go to lock for things like that is the Abus 20/70. Not too expensive, very pick resistant, and tough enough that the lock isn't going to be the weak link.
LockPickingLawyer this .. also it’s fairly strong in large sections and it’s very easy to machine well. Post-machining it’s self lubricating and doesn’t accelerate bimetallic corrosion as much as some other alloys.
It's not zinc soft, but very tough in salt water. They make the propellers for giant boats out of it, having learned in the 1920s to stop making them from such silly materials as cast iron. That was a laugh riot.
I have done research for Commando Lock and sort of "worked" for Patrick. I wanted to distribute his locks in Europe and helped to better the overall quality of his porducts. In the end all I got were empty promises and E-Mails saying that I would get locks for distribution "soon". I never got any locks and can only recommend staying away from Commando Lock and avoid them. Best wishes, Adrian
I'm sorry to hear this response from you Adrian when I did in fact, send you sample locks and you complimented them in your videos. We both agreed the cost of shipping to Germany was more than the value of the locks in small volumes and you couldn't commit to distribution unless I afforded the full cost during the sales process. I thought when you started your new employment, you had abandoned your interest in distributing my products and never heard from you again. I am still interested in EU distribution but cannot afford to fund it entirely from my end.
Are you kidding me? You recommend staying away from a company because they wouldn’t work with you? That might be helpful advice to people looking to work for Commando, but 99.999% of the people watching these videos will at most be looking to purchase a lock, not get a job.
