Here we show you how to do a leak test using shop air to test if you have any leaks from either or both oil rails on your 6.0L Powerstroke. In our case we had huge leaks on both sides which is what is causing out crank and no start symptom.

Can I bench test the ipr with 12v and should it click because mine doesn’t I’ve got a no start and no check engine light? On the scanner my ipr is at 60 while cranking, seems high but what the hell do I know Lol

I'm having the same issues iv changed the ipr the icp lpop the dummy plugs iv checked the stand up pips and the o rings are in great shape. Yet I have a code for the ipr p2623 circuit open and I'm building up to 319psi on the hpop the ipr key on it shows 14.8 and when I crank it goes to 85.3% I did oil change on it fuel filters the oil cap looks taller then the original when the looks of it on the web. You think you might have a answer to what my problem would be?

You have to do the air pressure test as I showed. You didn't mention that you checked the STC (snap to connect) fitting on the back of the HPOP. The air test will show if you have a leak there.

You're throwing parts at the truck. p2623 circuit open means the Injector pressure regulator is not connecting to the FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module) due to a wiring problem. Check the connector end at the High pressure oil pump,, check for bent pins in the Valve, check that the wires and connector are not melted because the heat blanket wasn't installed around the wires, check the wires aren't cut or broken, check for spread female pins at the connector, check that the small plastic insert is installed and not broken or deformed for aligning the 3 wires when you plug the connector to the sensor, check that the Pins aren't bent for the 3 large connectors under the FICM, further check that none of those pins are bent. These are all visual checks. You can test the ICP valve for broken coils ( there's two coil circuits internally sharing a common pin ) you can check the FICM wiring harness for connection from the ICP plug to the FICM connector. Past that the last option would be a FICM and that's 100% never the problem. Usually it's install error, worn in two harness, bent pins, not completely locked FICM connector.

Just pulled my ipr and did my leak down test. I’ve got air leaking on both sides like this one in the video. Mine is a 2003 f350 do the 03’s have dummy plugs? Sorry for the dumb question ha!

Mine ended up being top injector seals and nipple cup orings. Got er done. Thank goodness not the hpop I paid to have replaced when I broke down out of state a few months back. Thanks for sharing your process. Helps folks like me.

So you pointed to the passenger side valve cover for ICP connection. How about us with the early 03 and the ICP and IPR in the impossible place on the HPOP. Are you pressurizing the ICP port? Do I need to activate the IPR and command it closed during this test? Had no real problems for 10 years and now my 6.0 is showing its azz. Everything stock except for replaced all injectors with FOMOCO parts due to a bad fuel episode, EGR cooler was first mod and went *poof* and I did the blue spring mod. Truck will run 20 minutes or so and then stall suddenly, leaving me stranded wherever with a rough crank/ no start scenario. I had a suspicious ICP sensor so replaced it with new pigtail and BAM - Same results. I let it cool down and it will restart until the next higher temp situation to at least get me home.....testing lesson here - do not venture far from home when testing repairs for this.

You probably should start by monitoring fuel pressure, the engine low pressure oil, and also the high pressure oil. Monitor those and find out what you think you might loosing when it stalls. If yours is a stock 2003 it's most likely the HPOP pump itself. The turbo is really easy to remove. Once it's removed you can have better access to the ipr and icp

If only on side can hear air leak mean just replace on one side ? Or better do both side ? ….
@prodieselrepair3218
@prodieselrepair3218 Год назад
It's always better to do both. The other side that isn't leaking will start leaking eventually

I performed the air pressure leak test and found no leaks. Now my truck takes 10 to 15 seconds to build pressure to start. Truck was running great before that and runs great now but has a slow start. Is there a chance there is air trapped in my high pressure oil system. All numbers look good, just takes too long to build.
@prodieselrepair3218
@prodieselrepair3218 Год назад
There could be. You didn't mention how far you drove it. There's also a chance you dislogged some debree while removing the IPR if thats how you did the test. I would remove the IPR, clean it, and re-seal it with a new screen.

These are symptoms of a factory ford filter being used with a tall aftermarket oil filter cap.

I tried this and when I left the air on for about thirty seconds I didn’t hear air moving. I unplugged my shop air and bled the air off and no air came out of the hose. Or very little air. Any help/ suggestions

You have a leak somewhere even if you might not be able to hear it.
@btwbrand
@btwbrand Год назад
If you have a verified problem of no oil pressure building for the High pressure oil pump ( 500PSI minimum when cranking engine over) and you have no audible air leaks when pressurizing the Oil rails through the IPC sensor port then you have a torn HPOP reservoir screen and a clogged IPR screen, or the IPR screen is torn / never installed/ not equipped and the IPR valve is stuck open from trash in oil after a repair or small metal shaving usually from the front cover being eaten by the oil pump gears. No the oil filter doesn't catch every piece of damage shavings from the front cover because there is a bypass built into the oil flow that can allow the shavings to get past the oil filter where it travels on to the HPOP screen which is usually torn open allowing the shaving to continue forward whereit enters the pump or the IPR screen filters it out till the valve no longer gets oil flow or the filter screen breaks and trash holds the valve open.

Can this test be performed with an air compressor from harbor freight and do i need a fitting or valve to perform the test?

@@prodieselrepair3218 thank you so much, I've been asking this question on Ford forums and I've never gotten an answer. My background is completely unrelated to mechanic stuff so this is all new to me. Also, where can I find a on/off valve? I found the air pressure test fitting and the socket on Amazon for the IPR valve. Can I get that on/off valve at harbor freight.

HELP. Anyone reading comments please help. New ICP New IPR. I can hear air leaking under the oil rail but cannot find where it's leaking from. New Dummy plug and New Standpipe. I have taken every injector out and see nothing wrong with the ORings.??? Where else can it be leaking at?????
@prodieselrepair3218

It's probably the STC fitting from the output of the high pressure oil pump

@@dandunning4409 just like I said......the STC fitting. Google it. "Snap To Connect" fitting. It most likely blew out.
