243 win 95gr for deer or a 7mm 175gr. Is my go to. Crossbow and .50cal muzzeloader is my two other options. Took my first deer as a kid with a 3030 savage bolt gun 😉 with 150gr Winchester Silvertips if I'm right.

Love the classic look with the wood on the Weatherby. I own a Howa 1500 in .270 Win. with a hogue stock and I read somewhere that the Vanguard is the same rifle as the Howa 1500 and built by them..I could be wrong it is the internet..lol! Always have a spot for .243 in my gun cabinet...probably put more deer in the freezer with it than anything else in my 40yrs of hunting. 6.5 looks like a fun long range caliber. But if other bullet makers made heavy for caliber bullets and the twist rates to stabilize them others would do the same. 25-06 is a killer overlooked by many intermediate round..Faster and flatter than the 6.5..Just needs a bullet better designed for extreme accuracy, but its so close now in windage at long range its really a toss up between the two...7mm-08 comes to mind as well. The standard cardtridges aren't going anywhere, and I'm actually surprised that 6.5 CM has made it and I believe its here to stay unlike many others. I can hunt and target shoot with any of them..nothing like a medium sized caliber for fun target shooting and all around usefulness.

Now you gotta get a 7mm08 and show the world how it’ll rock the socks off the 6.5 Creedmoor. This is coming from a guy that has a 243 and and Creedmoor and no 7mm08 but I built the ar10 Creedmoor in hopes to turn it into a 7mm08 eventually. The Creedmoor barrel was a good bit cheaper than the 7mm08

Watched this vs your arrows and bolts video. Interesting to see the arrow went 7 jugs and the rifle ammo in this vid went 4 and 5 jugs. Just goes to show that when within the right range, arrows are just as lethal as a bullet. I have friends that question the ethics of using a bow vs a gun and they won’t believe how effective an arrow can be, especially a compound bow when it’s within 30 yards or so.

I love that .243!!!!! Such a versatile cartridge. From 55g pills going faster than a 22-250, to 100g pills for DRT deer. I'd love to see you take the .243 the next time that you go 1,000 yard shooting. I'm thinking that the heavier bullets are best for long range(85-100), if you have at least a 1:9.25 twist rate barrel. Not sure that a 1:10 would stabilize the 100+ grainers, without some trial and error. The 1:10 should be good with the 95g tho...

6.5 vs 30-06. Also if you us a vice to sight in a bolt action you take a shot than pull the bolt out & line it up with the bullet hole than dial the scope tell the cross hairs line up with the hole & that should get you close to on.

Depends on what you’re trying to do. If I was taking 70 yard shots at whitetail like they do in the south and on the east coast, I’d take the 7mm-08 But if I were hunting out in the open west at distances up to 5 or 6 hundred yards, I’d take a .243 any day of the week over a 7mm-08 or a 6.5 Creed

@@xAeschylusx I agree. But the 7mm-08 is more comparable to the 6.5. That's all I was saying. I hunt with a 243. I think the military could have saved a lot of money by going with the 7mm-08. And I'm originally from South Mississippi and live on the Western Slope of Calirado now.

I have both brands of rifles. I like the Axis II better. Have 3 other calibers in the Axis, all of them are tack drivers right out of the box. I’m guessing the Ruger is about the same.
