This 2007 Ram 3500 with a 6.7 Cummins is running hot and the A/C isn't working. The fan clutch has been replaced but it's still not working correctly.

Way back in the day I bought a used Chevy Chevette. After a month or two the starter quit. The mechanic got a rebuilt one and put it in, It worked for about a week. This process repeated 5 times. He told me only rebuilt starters were available. Since the rebuild shop was local he called them. The original owner had sold out about six months before and the new owner was doing what is typical, cutting costs everywhere he can, which included hiring unqualified help. Anyway, my mechanic talked the old owner into overseeing the starter rebuild and lo and behold that starter was still working fine when I sold the car a year later. Shows to go ya, there is no substitute for knowing what you're doing.

Chrysler definitely has the worst supply issues that I've seen, had a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica come in last week, the front brake rotors were warped... the local dealer couldn't get brake rotors or pads for it, saying indefinite back order! How can a 2021 have brake parts on indefinite back order when that's one of the current vehicles they're still selling?! It's crazy, got rotors and pads from Napa, wrong size, the aftermarket doesn't even acknowledge that there is a bigger rotor with different pads available....it's crazy. The place I work at normally deals in working on Volvos, and we have yet to have many issues getting genuine parts for any of their models.

The electro-viscous fan clutch (yes, that's the name) basically just replaces the little bimetallic doodad that purely mechanical fan clutches have with a solenoid. Internally the clutches still work the same. Solenoid opens up, allowing the silicone fluid to enter in the "friction" area at a controlled rate. "what if we take the worst aspects of a mechanicL fan clutch, and the worst aspects of an electric fan and combine them together" - engineer, somewhere.

Hi Wes. There is a simple "magazine" test for fan clutch in my country. Take a magazine(not wife's favorite 😄) roll it and put it into fan when engine's run. If the fan stop or going slow, congratulations, you win a new fan clutch. We also call it viscous clutch, there is something like liquid silicone inside. Sometimes could be repeared with new silicone, but only sometimes, and is temporary. Sorry for mistakes, i didn't practice writing for years.

I really appreciate your approach. You try not to assume things, though I guess we all do that sometimes. But you are very thorough and try to verify the problem. You also don't load up the parts cannon to fix the problem. That's the sign of a good mechanic. My stepson bought an Ebay starter ,chinesium type. It is a 3 hour job to replace. The starter worked once. That was a very expensive cheap starter.

Even years ago I fixed a lot of a/c problems with a new fan clutch that did not show up until a/c was used. Now you get the ones like this but also cars with 2 electric cooling fans that one doesn't work but no overheat, but shows up in poor a/c and higher pressures on both low and high sides. Also had one with a near perfectly shaped pyramid of grass, insulation, and twigs with a rat condo on top between the condenser and radiator. Showed up at the start of a/c season, yet this thing blocked 1/3 of the cooling area, extending almost to the top of the radiator from both sides of the bottom.

Plenty youngsters can drive a manual here in the UK 🇬🇧, historically fuel has always been expensive, so smaller engine capacity, small engines were not compatible with the old slush 3 speed autoboxes. Newer design of transmissions allow much smaller engines. Team WES landscaping doing a great job, good maintenance contract.
