I had to let go of the "Niche" mindset. I realized that I was a whole package. I'm more than what I offer, Those that are for me will have certain things that they prefer but I realized that those that are aligned with me are open to my growth and will grow with me. I'm in the wellness industry but I own a business and it's my third business after selling my first 2. I want to educate my community in wellness but my experience in entrepreneurship is also valuable so I was like man, Here I am, take all of me not just parts. So no Niche for me! Just me! Love these tips E!
I personally think people are multidimensional and have different interests. That’s why I don’t think content creators really need to narrow themselves to just one type of content. 🙌💯
O'SSÉIN - Master Your Mind With Me this works for some people and not as well for others! I am not saying to have broad, unorganized content. It all still needs to work together & make sense. But there’s no cookie cutter way to grow so it’s all up to what you feel is best for yourself and your audience! Xo
I agree. When you just start off, if you’re all over the place, ppl can get turned off by that. So yah definitely niche down and when ppl care enough that they’ll watch anything you post, expand
I struggled so much trying perfect a particular niche that it ended up crippling my creativity. Creating authentic content and being your ultimate authentic self is proving to be a winner.
Omg I want to run a blog ,I only started my channel three months ago ,I don't even have a clue about blogging ,well watching RU-vid videos to learn but not making up
*I love creating content about Natural Hair Growth (Afro hair) while sharing my journey as a nurse, mom and wife. It's been really difficult having only one niche. I just want my creativity to be expressed fully while helping others. Girl, you're gorgeous* 😘
Thanks for sharing! Yes, you should try to diversify a little and start sharing other parts of yourself that may still appeal to your current audience. Also, ask your audience if there are other things they'd like to know about/from you! xo E
Currently I make RU-vid videos on various things but the actual focus is showing people how to do all the different things on a budget, show them that I don’t have to spend so much money to do the things I love
I've never liked the concept of "niche" as it feels like I'm confined and limiting myself, but I have recently decided to "niche" down and it honestly helped me so much with staying consistent. However what I've done is exactly what you explained in the first tip and I love this target persona exercise, which I will do tomorrow to help make things clearer for myself. So my niche is personal development & lifestyle design, I focus on giving advice on how to improve yourself and live a happy, mindful more meaningful life. Having this "niche" still allows me to speak about my other interests, like fashion, art, organization ! Thank you Erin for providing us with great quality valuable content all the time🙏🏽💖
I’ve always loved doing multiple things, like I love fashion, cooking, Travel, diys, art, and so I’ve constantly had a problem with videos telling me it’s better to pick just one thing and focus on that. I just felt like if I am the way I am, loving so many different things, there would definitely also be other people that are interested in the same things in the way that I do them or show them
Yes! I do think having an overarching theme is still going to help pull all of those things together so it doesn't feel like you're completely all over the place. Ie - I still like cooking, fashion, etc. and figured out a way to tie it into my brand so it makes sense for my type of audience. BUT, you are ultimately your niche and that's the beauty of it! There's not secret formula besides being yourself. xo E
Erin On Demand yes, I do that, my theme is that I do all of those things on a budget and still enjoy it the same way I would if I pulled out a wad of cash to do it
this mindset is revolutionary to me! i was feeling so stuck in my niche (I feel like my audience only wants to watch instagram tip videos tbh) but I love your approach of making videos for a certain kind of person, not for a demographic or based on a niche
I LOVE the concept of an antipersona! I have found that the majority of people I reach on RU-vid are not in my desired demographic so that it's a helpful tip.

This is honestly one of the most important videos you’ll ever watch on branding. I’ve never heard anyone talk about this topic like you Erin. And this is the building block of being an entrepreneur. Now let’s see how I can implement that in music 🎵 ✨
I haven't even finished the video all the way and you said something in a way nobody said to make it clear for me to find my "Niche, Persona' all that jazz. Thank you. I just subscribed. You have helped me so much. Thank you Love.
RU-vid should introduce a love icon because girl, you are speaking so much sense and describing my problem as if you have been in my life since i started my entrepreneurial career. I love your content and be motivated to keep nailing it. You are doing an amazing job. Keep up.
Thank you so much for this Erin. When I started my channel 10 months ago, people were telling me that I need to be in a niche and that educational content is boring and that no one will watch. I carried on with being me and doing what I love to do which is educational and informative content. I started doing "getting paid online" videos for South Africans mainly because we are not really informed with it comes to online work. And my most watched videos to date are the informative and educational videos that I put up. Especially about working from home. So I appreciate channels like yours that help me understand that I'm not weird. And I'm finding my niche now and in that niche I understand that I can do a couple of things that falls under it... Thank you. Love from SA.
I started my channel with a niche because its an extension of my business, My target market is moms of girls ages 3-11. My videos targets these moms with princess product reviews and anything around the princess theme. Watching your videos cemented that I am doing the right thing for my audience. Thanks for your tips.
Literally what I’m struggling with right now! Really love fashion and beauty but my channel is geared toward my college experience and college advice. Definitely want to expand and grow my fan base while creating content that’s fun for me and allows me to express myself yet still help people. Thank you for this!!
College videos and college beauty /fashion videos maybe. Like what u wear to college or college hauls etc. makeup for college and all those random stuff
Princess Oniká I was thinking the same thing. Budget friendly looks for college women, where to shop while your in college, building a college capsule collection, the must have beauty products for college students. You can create tons of great content. That is such an amazing market! Good luck!
I am your exact target market, even down to the press on nails, health and beauty, small business and all of it. Felt like you were talking directly to me.
You know what I like about you is that your are genuine and the reason why I know that is because small business people matters to you and you respond to people messages even if they are a nobody on RU-vid thanks for helping us by doing these videos please I mean it keep up the good work 🎥🎥🎥🎥📟📟📟📟
While watching this, I had the aha moment you talked about and realized I’m my target audience persona on RU-vid lol. Now that I realize what kind of content I’ve been putting out, it reflects where I am and I’ve realized there are others there as well!
This is the GOLD! My background is fiction writing and theater and identifying your characters by behaviors is storytelling fundamentals that translate across all genres, industries and story intentions- entertainment, marketing or even fundraising. I believe it is the key to all persuasiveness actually… like even with your kids. It’s SO powerful! Thank you for this!
Love the press-ons example AND the labeling of the anti-persona. My clients have a HARD time niching down (and I completely understand why-they're multipassionate like me lol). But I try to frame it in a way that demonstrates that you're targeting a WHOLE person, not just one part of them. So in addition to taking into account their demographics (sex, age, geographic location, etc.), thinking about their psychographics (how they view the world, their beliefs, values, priorities, hobbies, etc.) is equally if not MORE important.
I find myself wanting to show different sides of myself so people don't develop one expectation of me but I think that can confuse my viewers. I struggle with this. Great insight! 💙💙💙
This video is brilliant! I have been wrecking my brain trying to narrow down niche's when i felt like I wanted to talk about different aspects of the lifestyle and didn't want my channel to be confusing....and the has kept me stuck. Thank you for freeing me...
I started off doing recipes but realized it’s super over saturated and it’s only so much ima cook and eat! I have brought it down and niched to lifestyle, advice, food and travel. Seems like it’s working so far. I took your advice and also created channel art! Thank you as always ❤️
You are so much help! I am starting my channel soon. I had a few attends but didn't know where to start. You have giving confidence and great tools for my upcoming channel. Thank you!
this video was exactly what I needed. I literally just started my RU-vid channel today. and without your video I honestly don’t think it would’ve been possible! So thank you so much girl, you’re such an inspiration!!! ❤️❤️
Ooooo I love this idea of target audience persona. Yh the pressure to niche is real on youtube/social media but I definitely love creating content that empowers people in things I have experienced and good at. I'll keep this in mind as I continue creating my RU-vid videos👏
This was REFRESHING!!! As a creative entrepreneur I stand by this approach. We can’t be limited by others claims on how it’s suppose to be. I believe holding on to this mindset sets us back and makes starting harder than it needs to be. Start First by making it work your way. Less pressure on the hows and how nots. More on tweaking along the way.
I definitely needed this video! I'm in the middle of rethinking who my target audience really is and how I can reach them. The problem I'm having is: the audience my business should be reaching, I don't know how to reach them because I don't embody that target audience persona. I don't know anyone like them either so it's hard for me to visualize what they like, how to reach them, how to effectively communicate with them. When I started this business I was in college so I underpriced myself and built up a college student audience, but after years of developing my craft & increasing my prices, I realize I need to be reaching a more financially set (lol) crowd. All I know is college, I graduated last year and the job I got I still work with people who are college age or fresh out of high school.
Wow! Thank you so much for this great info. I sell press on nails and have been struggling with finding my target audience but you really simplified it and made it so much easier to understand. TYSM.
Did you read my mind? You addressed the exact question I've been asking myself for weeks: To niche or not to niche. This was very helpful for someone like me who wants to create a variety of video types without having a channel that seems disjointed. Much appreciation for the thoughtfulness that you brought to this video!
Gurl, your vids are so freaking helpful! I love what you do so much! I rewatch some of your vids cuz they are so jam packed with information! Thank you!
This helped me so much. I feel like I should have been doing this but I wasn’t fully grasping the concept💀 I’ve had my business since 2018 it’s been up and down, but I feel it’ll be better now ✨
Thank you Erin! You said the same thing as several other videos I've watched, but you said it much better. I love the way you broke it down. I left other videos still asking questions like, "Okay so now what do I do? And "How am I supposed to do that?" I already have a website, (it's not published yet-still adding content). I've been struggling to define my niche. This video has been helpful. I will be checking out your other videos.
This video comes at the right time, i'm running a channel about fashion design and diy, i want to create another content about lifestyle but every youtube gurus teach about niching down, thank you erin for this information, you are amazing ❤️🥰
I loved this! My channel isn’t super niched (also not all over the place) and I have been building content around that. I’m working on my audience persona now to make my content that much better!
Truth in all of this Erin, I like to say who are you looking to serve or what you want to be known for also in helping you decide your target audience. Great video as always ☺️ I love the persona idea in making it more personalizing.
oh my goodness, you are such a breath of fresh air! Thank you so much for helping me break out of this constant war with myself about niche-ing... Bless your soul!
Can I just say . . . with all due respect . . . that you look like a whoooole business snack!!! I LOVE the outfit and makeup! Waitin for that stimulus check so I can get on your level sis! Yaaaaaaas!!! :D
I like the concept of Niche, I currently make videos that are college/self development related. I also believe depending on the type of niche, some are better able to divert to other things.
This is sooo true! I originally focused on courting, engaged, & married people now it’s relationships, marriage, lifestyle which incorporates sooo much more without being restricted.
Hello I love 💕 how you explained everything on when finding your target audience. Because I started my own small business selling beauty & personal care products , and every since I started it has not been going well like I only made two sells and was in July that brought me $57 . But as time went by my business flopped and I had a very hard time trying to figure out how to get my niche situated , but now I think 🤔 I may have and idea 💡 now because of your perfect video tutorial thank you ! 🥰🥰
Wow, I love this as well. Keep this up please. I started my channel but definitely didn't take the time out to figure out my audience before not its catch up but I'm down to do the work.
This was so helpful:) I have been struggling with finding my Niche but after following you, I decided to focus on putting my content out rather than worrying about my Niche since I am just starting out.
