PRISTIN had so much potential!! I was such a big fan of their music too when I first got into K-pop back in 2017 so I was looking forward to more music and then we only got one single from PRISTIN V… pledis seriously wasted their talent 🙄

A regret I have is that I never stanned Gfriend until they had disbanded :(, I still love their songs and I'm a Buddy. Glad we have Viviz now

2NE1 was my first all time favorite girl group in 2011, the first kpop group, ever, that I actually liked when I first got into thanks to the 2011 version of pops in Seoul. Ugly is my first all time favorite song by them.

Pristin should deserve better but whatever happened happens and I was surprise that Gfriend disbanded just like that

2ne1 was the first ever kpop group that I discovered since Sandara is popular here in our country so I listened to some of their songs. Idk if I was in pre-school or elementary but their songs are awesome as a kid.

The ark was so underrated and the members were so talented, I loved their debut and their dance covers, I will always be sad about them :(

K-pop groups will come and go, very few have the staying power, it takes a lot to succeed in an industry where scandals and controversy are not tolerated and can quickly end careers of the idols

Source Music literally lost Yuju, and GFRIEND, they were almost like a 2nd Mamamoo where all members could actually sing

nuest disbanded because pledis/hybe thinks they aren't as popular anymore, they think there aren't a lot of people that are interested in them even though it was pledis' fail from the very beginning by trying to push them into the western media more than the korean media. pristin disbanded because pledis is shitty with their management. pledis was co-handling both izone and fromis_9 since they saw potential in idol groups in survival shows, so when they create an idol group with survival shows' members they expected a lot, but they didn't, so they just throw them away and just focus on the other groups. pledis is a sht of an entertainment, so i wouldn't be surprise if in the future they did the same thing to fromis_9.

as a blackjack, sometimes i feel like yg sabotage 2ne1's career in so many ways and us blackjacks have noticed it even before 2ne1 disbanded.

It wasn't unexplained, but JBJ's disbandment still makes me mad. They had so much potential and great chemistry and yet their agency still forced them to disband.

4Minute isnt the only group cube entertaintment did dirty on them. See CLC at the first place (so much waste on potential and so much mismanagement) and now Pentagon.

NU'EST's d!sbandment broke my heart. I loved them so much. I still love them as much as i did back then... They will always be my No.1 Screw HYBE for this.

it's interesting tho that after a group disbands you really do see where the loyalty lies among fans. I noticed a lot of GF stans don't even care, support or stan Viviz. Two of my friends used to be big GF stans, travel to see them, attend fansigns, etc. They don't even mention Viviz at all. They seem to have moved on to other GGs. Not saying this is the reason but I feel a lot of fans are not really "stans." They only stan when they are a group and when they popular.

I think 2ne1 4minute and GFriend are the poster child for lack of agency support because they either aged out or they no longer could sign them to unsavory contracts. Because of this… they are not allowed to succeed in the independent scene.

Let's also not forget about groups in limbo like After School. Done dirty by Pledis like so many others.

I swear Hybe had something to do with Gfriend and Nu’est’s disbandments. I mean one year after Gfriend’s disbandment, Le Sserafim debuted. After Nu’est’s disbandments, rumors flew that Pledis was debuting a new boy group. Hybe seems to be getting rid of older artists who believe they aren’t profitable, and replacing them with new artists. The only old groups they’ll keep are BTS and Seventeen because they’re profitable. What makes no sense to me really was Nu’est stayed so close and together through thick and thin, even going 7 whole years without a single win or barely any attention, even promoting as 4 due to Minhyun’s activities in Wanna One. Right when he got back, they got their first win and seemed to be on a successful route, then 3 years after the found insane success, they disband. It just doesn’t make sense and makes me feel Hybe had something to do with it, yes the members were mistreated because it’s Pledis, but that still seems suspicious that the members that were most promoted by Pledis stay, but the members that weren’t as popular leave, it seems Hybe could’ve seen that Ren, Aron, and JR as weak links to the group. I mean Baekho was immediately successful as a soloist and Minhyun landed many acting deals and is about to debut solo, but the three other members seem to be getting no attention or traction at all.

As an outsider looking in and very new to Kpop (they got me through the "gateway drug" of K-Drama OST's) - Unfortunately since I started watching older dramas first, most of the groups I listen to either imploded or have already disbanded. Things I've noticed is the seven year (slave contract curse), which I believe is due to two reasons. 1. The members get "older" - this is also a problem with Jpop and probably Cpop. "Fans" want younger (and almost always hypersexualised) (girl) groups. Fewer and fewer fans want groups to mature in both music and concept. 2. As groups get more popular they both become "powerful"/have more leverage in their contract re-negotiations and their popularity impedes new projects. Sometimes companies will put together a "test" group to gauge fandoms before releasing their main project or neglect and existing group and just focus on the new project (Miss A). Group members decide they want to go solo or into acting. Also, you have to remember that these groups are MADE. I haven't heard of anyone sending in an audition tape or being discovered singing in a pub/nightclub. It's either picked of the street/shopping mall purely on visuals and then trained for years or off survival shows/open auditions. Then it's years of dance and vocal training and the songs are pre-written and given to them. Later as they mature into the industry a lot artists come up with original content - but it's only after years of experience. What happened to groups like Brave Girls, GFriend, Bestie and Crayon Pop are absolute travesties. I would really like to see someone do a deep dive into three groups. Fly With Me, Laysha and GirlCrush. FWM looks like they started as a legit dance group and then were sexualised to the point they are now pretty much strippers. Same with L and GC. Both have a a couple of original songs that are actually good IMHO, but then to gain a fan base they went sexual. once you cross that line, there's no coming back (Sistar/Excid/Mamamoo/Hello Venus). Does anyone in the kpop world take any of these three groups seriously? From the business side I understand "slave contracts". It's a huge investment from the companies and their job is to recover the cost as well as make a profit. BUT most of the contracts seem to have ridiculous cost/profit sharing splits. I have to say that I think groups do a big disservice to fans when they get overconfident in their contract re-negations. I can understand a company deciding disbandment is more cost effective. It's not "show friends" it's "show business" Also, Knetizens are crazy. Scandals and accusations turn kpop deities into pariahs.

All artists have the right to renew a contract or not . Respect their decision.

4Minute was in fact the group that introduced me to K-Pop and I became a 4NIA in 2012. I discovered 2NE1 in 2013 and they were the first two girlgroups that I fell in love with. So losing them both in the same year, 4Minute even disbanded a month before my Birthday, I just lost it. I am still not over their disbandment and even 2NE1's final song ''Goodbye'' made me bawl my eyes out, while it all flashed before my eyes. No more albums, no more comebacks... nothing. It still hurts that the first two groups I got into were the first to disband when I look at the groups I supported back then...

The worst disbandment in history was Pristin like these girls trained so hard and were doing actually well ?? What don't they have that Pledis wanted💔😒

Development of vocal cord nodules is such an unfortunate event for a vocalist. It can destroy their livelihoods completely. Hope she leads a good life without singing(Vocal cord nodules develop due to long term straining of vocal cords, which is common in singers, teachers and politicians).

There's genuinely no surprises here: - Fans: We love them, Agency: Its a business. - Fans: Why did they disband? Agency: After mutual agreement we've decided to disband - Group Before: We've decided to focus on acting and solo projects. Group After: I heard it in the news like everyone else = Agency: Unsucessful contract negotiations, Reality: We're not renewing their contracts, we dont want to - Fans: Why did you mistreat them? Why didnt you renew them? Agency (reality) They didnt make us enough money and/or there were too many issues to manage or they gave lip and werent the idols we liked.

From my understanding CLC was in the same predicament. CUBE does all their groups dirty.

There's 2 common denominators, 1, HYBE buying the group's company and 2, PLEDIS.

HYBE and YG...probably 2 of the worst conglomerates. While one concerns solely on immediate profits, the other just breed bad press and behavior for their artistes until they've passed their shelf lives.

I always felt the reason why Hybe started to take over all these groups like GF, Nuest, Seventeen etc. is cuz they want to buy out their competition. ie. so there is no competition. that's kind of a old business strategy. what they do is set them up to fail. or in kpop... disband them. This way Hybe can enforce their own groups like new jeans, lesserafim.

2NE1 disbandment seems pretty straightforward. Bom was caught with illegal substance. Even if she had a prescription in US it doesn't matter bc its still illegal in Korea. With that scandal and 2NE1's ages YG decided it wasn't worth bringing them back and debuted Blackpink instead. Maybe it wasn't fair but that is business.

YG did us Blackjacks dirty with 2NE1. Them first finding out through the media is wrong. 🥲 And with GFriend, I was becoming a fan after their latest comebacks!

Gfriend is not marketable anymore. They are so expensive without reason. I believe their fees is on par with Twice and BP which clearly are ways above them. That sudden change of fees stem from them being a subsidiary of hybe. Shows can't guest them anymore one example of this is when Min Kyunghoon asked the pd of Knowing Brosif they are so expensive and the pd responded quickly and said yes so they can't guest them that easily.
