There’s a little archive online of Audio magazine. Every May issue from 88 or 87 to 94 is a car audio buyers guide. They are 100+ page trip down memory lane. The adds are the best. You can see that in the 80’s they were marketing to yuppie 25-30 year olds. Then by 94 it’s definitely 16-25 year olds they are targeting.

Love the quad box. I wonder if Kicker has plans to do an upgraded quad box with Q class L7s? Is it needed? No, but it sure would be fun to compare the 2.

1:55 Looks like they are the Q series L7's... If you look at the tag it has a Q in the series number

@@personaljesus269 They aren't the Q class. The subs look different and the sticking is different. Each Q class L7 12 is rated for 900 watts rms. The quad box would then be rated for 3600 watts rms instead of 2400 watts.

Back in the day, maybe 1995 or so, I had a tiny little Crunch USA 'Power One' amp that was 1 ohm stable. It seemed like any time I mentioned that, people were extremely surprised. It was only like 150 watts or something. It pushed the 2 Pioneer 10s I had pretty decently so I never got anything else.

Wow I never seen any amps like that. I don't know of any car audio places in San Antonio that sell those kind of amps. I always thought that you would have to run multiple amps to get that kind of power. Thanks for the video. Great learning experience. Imma go and check out more of your content.

My brother had the chrome jl audio 1400 watt amp pushing 2 jl audio 12"s w6 that thing would get hot but was a monster he won back in the days of the system by custom sounds

@@DJENERGY210Back in the day. I ran 3-12in JL W6's with a 1500 watt Precision Power amp that was like 30in long. It was a monster. I had all that in a Nissan 300zx. The box was custom build for that car. Never took it to the competitions by man did that thing hit HARD.

Great video mate! I was working at jbl distributor when the 6000gti was announced. I listened to the 6000gti in a few demo cars at the events we sponsored. Truly incredible memories. Love the Kicker Quad box I remember when the square design subs first came out. I really like the JBL amplifier it's a beast! I'm a huge JBL fan and own a LOT of their home audio products which are Outstanding Quality, half of all commercial movie theaters including Imax use JBL or Harmon Professional products. Harmon International owns JBL. I didn't know JBL still made mobile amps as I'm not into car audio as much as I used to be. Keep up the great work Sir!

Back in the day I had an S15L7 that I ran on 2kw daily. I hit 145db with it, sealed with the meter on the dash. I had no doubt the quad box could handle the JBL Crown amp.

That's my old amp that I traded to amplab for some repairs. I knew they were going to try to pretty it up and restore it but didn't know they made a video. It was a fantastic amp but terrifying to run because repair when/if it breaks costs about a grand and there's so many proprietary parts in it it's just rolling the dice that repair could be done for any cost if anything goes wrong.

Dereck, I know I have mentioned this before, but I truly believe you would get your highest SPL from this vehicle/enclosure combination by firing the subs towards the rear of the vehicle, with the port straight up. You might have to play with the box front to back to perfectly dial it in. On the same test, I bet you would gain no less that 1db.

I think the RCAs might be going out on my A6000. Just glad it has a card that slides out! That would be a nightmare if it didn't! Love the vids of showing gear in action!!! Big D can you do an episode on clamped power? Show a demo of a few amps clamping on music. To many people don't have a clue!

power compression. there comes an unavoidable condition where a sub system will not get any louder no matter how much power you deliver to it. it becomes harder and harder the more power you give it to get louder, kind of an electronic inertia. physics is hopelessly bound by it like the faster a car goes the harder it is to make it go faster.

Thats why you see bigger speakers or just multiple speakers. More surface area, more air volume.

This is typically the result of a poor driver design. Look at pro audio subwoofers like the JBL 2269H driver. They use very small neodymium magnets to improve airflow and heat dissipation. This is a driver that can handle 9600 watts for two hours at a time with a max output of 144 Db at 1m.

Looks awesome! Betting if you played with position of the box you will gain db. I.e. downfire box by blocking it up, and keep vent firing back! Subs when firing up I'm sure your loosing spl from the roof flexing too much.

my old 2002 sunfire coupe with two 15 inch L7's and a truck alternator was stupid loud. it was only 2000 watts too. but it was unreal. I want two 15 inch L7X's on 5000 watts.

I had a BPX2200.1 back then also, it's crazy how much $ small power cost back then. Now you can get double the clean power with a sundown SALT for a fraction of the price
