#67 These Walls are DONE | Renovating an Abandoned Stone House in Italy

We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.

I’m wondering in case of earthquakes will that stone wall fall. Being Italia prone to earthquakes, is that wise thing to put stone walls inside house.Aldo they look as some aristocratic castle walls, bravo for your meticulous work.

The type of mortar used in the original construction allows the walls to be flexible not rigid. This is why many stone houses in Italy are still standing after hundreds of years of seismic activity.

Hello! More difficult and tedious work. The Big Payoff will be in the end, when the walls have all been filled in and pointed. You are both such an inspiration to me. You seem to know that the difficult work you must do will make your home so much more beautiful. Kudos to you! Vince said that the total number of square meters of walls that you had to point was 70 meters. I could not imagine how much that was, so I converted it to square feet. It is 754 square feet of space. That is more square feet of space than the house that I live in!! Now I understand what a huge job it has been to complete this I see Caiu is helping! In English, Caiu means Rejoice!! So appropriate!! Regards, Leslie Ann

@@ateliermavi OH, NO!!! Does it have to be completed before you move in? Or can you do it over the weeks after you are "in residence?" I would promise "God" that I would work slavishly every weekend until the pointing was completed IF He would allow us to move into our "HOME" God's an Okay Guy . . . He'll agree to that!! Hahahahaha! 😀

I can remember how dark and small the house used to look. What an incredible transformation! I hope you both feel lighter; that you can clearly see the end of the project. i've enjoyed this journey from the first drop. Covid opened doors that had been 'not in my orbit'. it took me many episodes to note the closed caption translation. this project has captured me, and i enjoy your dog's growth. your translations are so much more eloquent in describing mundane tasks, "hydrating the stone" is so much better than "soak the wall with a hose". This project reveals your development of skills and knowledge, and mine as well. Thank you.

The colo❤urs in the stone are beautiful and i know from watching Finca Life that colours will become more vibrant as the water in the lime mortar dries out and the stones dry out.

When the balance of clay and sand is good, soil makes a very good mortar! Breathable and quite elastic ☺️

Absolute marvelous! This may be superstition: An old blacksmith told me once a horseshoe should hang with the open side up, so that the luck stays inside. Either way your horseshoe hangs: I wish you good luck! 🇦🇹

bonjour et bravo, c'est superbe… bien sûr c'est bcp d'huile de coude mais si on y réfléchie bien, pour les amateurs du tout BA13 entre pose des railles, des panneaux, des bandes, du ponçage, des enduits, du primaire de fond et des couches finales de peinture, je pense que vous êtes gagnant pour un résultat qui lui va durer 100 ans… et en être fier :)
