How does this comment have 14 likes? That's crazy. VGG is an OG and Thunderhead is close too. Awesome seeing the respect.

And even Thunderhead didn't reply? Why's that? Could have been a gigantic boost.

@jerryantaya1266 VGG commented this 5 years ago well before he really blew up back when he was just another nobody. Lol. Crazy how the internet is and you can just look back at some really old videos to see where everything started. 5 years ago Derek had no idea he was going to be where he is now with a dream shop and a contract with MotorTrend living an extremely comfortable life now. Just shows how far some effort can go long ways along with being surrounded by the right group of people to help you grow. I remember discovering VGG's channel from one of those "Let's Go Let's Grow!" channels here on RU-vid that do networking to help channels grow by shouting out channels in the live chat on a live stream back when Derek was just starting out basically.

I had one in a ‘73 Bronco took it on a trip to Big Bend in Terlingua, ran like a top but kept using water. Got it home and figured a cracked head ended up being that and turned the engine over to check cylinder walls found the wrist pin had come out of front cylinder and had a groove worn in the cylinder wall about an 1/8th inch, but it stayed with all the Jeeps that weekend.

Always feels great to see something run after a couple of decades. I did that with a 1949 Ford 8N tractor, it hadn't run in 30 years. It was missing the distributor so I bought a new re manufactured. I did all the wiring, tune up parts, oil change, carb kit, cleaned the gas tank and mounted a GM alt. One thing about the Ford 8N and 9N tractors, they make almost literally everything for them still today. It started in 4 cranks, it was unreal and so satisfying, there is nothing like that feeling it's so exciting! I love to see resurrected vehicles and sometimes it takes little effort and some mechanical minded people and the love of antique vehicles to bring them back to life. I really appreciate the ingenuity of the early engineers, It's incredible! great Job guys!!

valiant effort and brought back hilarious memories! in 1970, our mom, who couldn't drive a standard, bought a magnicent 2-speed Powerglide Automatic 283Ci Impala Convertible for $600. Car was perfect! We learned to drive in it, but we felt less than manly because we couldn't drive stick. My brother and I scraped up $200 and bought a 1962 beater Impala Convertible with 3 on the tree. In retrospect, I can't imagine a 62 impala - which was a premium car when built - having a column-shift standard. After much clutch-burning, we taught ourselves to drive this piece of crap. Problem was that the shift linkage on the fire-wall regularly would, bind and one of us would have to get out and shake the he'll out of it to get it back into first. In PA in the early 1970s, you couldn't get a Temporary Tag on a car sold privately, and the seller kept his tags. The state of PA expected 16-Year-olds to wait a month for tags before driving the car.... for a teen that's 2 centuries in adult years. The solution was simple: We were in a junk yard searching for parts, and found a perfectly current plate from a 1962 Renault, which one of us stuffed down his pants. We were driving around, the clutch linkage jammed, the cops pulled up to help, and we spent a night in jail for driving a Chevy with a salvaged Renault plates. I learned a lesson that night, but damn, I wish I could do it again!

I learned to drive in a 68 Mercury 100, Canadian made. 300ci 4 speed on the floor. When I was a teenager I thought it would be cool to let the drivers side brake grab with no hands on the wheel and burn a doughnut in the mud by the cattle shed. Blew the rag joint apart. Brings back memories of the farm in Alberta.

I looked long and hard for THIS VIDEO IN PARTICULAR just to watch it again> 2 years ago I found and bought an 88 F150 someone had totally ripped down and gutted to make a show truck out of it but passed away sadly before they could do much of anything with the truck. I HATE FORDS I REALLY REALLY DO but this truck it called to me begged me and I felt sorry for it so I took it home. 2 weeks ago the weather warmed up A LITTLE and a few days prior to that I committed to go rescue another FORD truck which is a 1991 short bed for a friend that begged me to help him. He knows I have trucks and construction tools because before becoming a retired and mostly unemployed bum I was a contractor. So I set out on the morning of the big wreck here on Rt 81 in Pennsylvania for Pine Grove where this truck was lodge inside a partially collapsed garage so we could rescue it with my best FORD buddy. The only reasons I even took on the challenge is my best FORD buddy knows FORD TRUCKS like I know Silverado trucks. In the future I will need his help with my truck ya see the deal we made??? Well the weather turned to howling winds and blinding blizzards with 50-60mph wind gusts and by a stroke of sheer Gods magic hands the lord actually helped us lift the largest part of the collapsed roof right off the truck. The wind gust that lifted that section of roof was so strong the piece of roof landed 10 feet away from the building that is how strong the winds were not to mention we were stuck there another 5 hours after hearing all the sirens the people we bought the truck from came over to tell us the hiway home was closed we would have to use the back roads to get home... . I was fearing we would have to hook my truck up to move that big piece roof which would have hurt the truck. It was so slick and got so icy we never would have been able to use my truck to lift that piece of roof off it. We did manage to pull the Ford truck out but we had come back for it which we did Wens after noon because it would not start or run Typical Ford. My trailer was so slick with ice we never would have gotten the truck up on the trailer like that not safely. Turns out my Ford buddy is also going to have a nice build and his truck is not nearly in as many pieces as mine is in... We worked 6 hours to get that truck started so we could get into position to get it on that trailer. I was just a bad cumpooter as I call em and my Ford buddy had 3 of em along too bad only one of em was still good.

Yeah... The master-cylinder reservoir bowl is not really where you want to find dirt and debris like that. I don't envy you the *tons* of brake work you have ahead of you -- I just replaced the entire brake system in my '68 Ford Galaxie (factory front discs, too) and am still working out the bugs. It's a long process. But super job getting that thing running and rolling under its own power!! Loved the fact that you detailed everything you did, but didn't go overboard with every last little tiny nut and bolt -- a good combination of summary and detail, I thought. Enjoyed watching it!

That's how my cousin started out, around 12 or so, by bringing some old american iron that he found in the woods on the family farm back to life. Once he had it running good he traded up to another more desirable project. He kept bringing cars/bikes/trucks back to life, and trading up again. By the time he was 15 he had a solid 69 Chevelle in the barn and he didn't even have his license yet! He then proceeded to turn that car into a monster. Good luck!

I bought a identical color and scheme 1968 Ford F100 Ranger Short box. It had a 390 / 2 barrel carb with C6 auto and a Dana 60 semi floater 5 lug rear diff with 4.10 gears and a Power lock diff. I paid $800 for it and its super clean with only 27,658 original miles. I bought it from the original owners widow. Her husband ordered it in 1968 and it was his 1 and only new vehicle. Unfortunately he died of a heart attack in 1971 and she had his truck parked in the barn where its sat for 40 years prior to my buying it. It now has a 4 barrel carb and intake, comp 268h cam , ceramic coated headers and the C6 has been rebuilt with roller discs, instead of friction discs. Shift kit, manual valve body and stall converter. Rear diff has been changed from 4.10 to 3.73 gears . She will really move now. Just like her gas gauge lol

You gotta love those old Ford F-100 Trucks while they lacked a lot in the luxury department compared to today's trucks if they were taken care of they would last almost forever, What killed a lot of them was rust from road salt and just plain neglect, These old trucks were easy to work on and even an amateur back yard mechanic could take one apart and make repairs easily, The 240 engine like the one here was one of the most reliable engines that Ford ever made they were used in everything from large commercial generators to commercial air compressors, wood chippers etc. and a lot of the older F-100 trucks had them, I had two of these trucks with this same engine and they both had over three hundred thousand miles on them when I sold them and both were still running perfect with good manifold vacuum pressure and excellent compression and burned no oil, Keep good clean oil in this truck and you had a vehicle for life, On both of my trucks the engines had never been taken apart or had any major work on them, One needed a new heater core and the other needed a new radiator that was it. Another thing is that this engine could be easily adapted to run on not only gasoline but also propane and natural gas. I wish I still had them they were a pleasure to drive

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I like how you went one step at a time, slowly and methodically, fixing one thing at a time, making it right, then on to the next step. I've got a 1967 Ford Econoline van that was ugly as sin when I found it. Sitting on one brake drum and two flat tires with a dog living in the back. It had a 240 CID straight six. I gotta tell you, those 240 engines are really well built. After all these years, mine is still ticking right along. Regards, Tom

I brought my 1954 F100 back to life after i6 223 engine was completely locked up.. transmission and brake fluid flooding cylinders for weeks and finally got flywheel to move.. after full rotation and unsticking a couple valves she runs good.. Great job guys.. Older vehicles are a lot of fun

Man Im so glad to see someone else appreciating an old Ford like this. I personally drive a 1968 F250 Camper Special with a 361 with the three speed hydro-glide transmission and man do I love it.

I bought a 68 E-250 Camper Sp. 390, 4 on the floor in 1980 in N.Dakota. Great looking and running truck. Paid 900 for it. Put it through pure hell cutting and hauling fire wood with chains on the back for 5 yrs. Had it painted, rebuilt the 390 myself.Sold it in Minn. in 89.Got all my money back + some.. but wish I had it back now!

Most ppl don't know if the filter is straight up and down its a full filtered system and if the filter is horizontal it's a partially filtered system that's why some filters aren't straight up and down :)❤
