Thank you so much for your vid! You helped me figure out a plan to remove my timing cover because of a blown water gasket and an eternal oil leak somewhere near the high-pressure oil pump. Finally, I’ll be able to fix that oil leak and I’ll put in the new O-rings to fix the water leak. I’m doing this with the engine in the truck, lifting the cab 4 inches or so and lifting the engine a few inches to remove the oil pan to get those 2 bolts on the oil pickup tube that are hanging onto the cover. Thanks to the New York boys of ‘Immortal Engines’ for their vid on replacing an oil pan without pulling the 7.3 engine!
Love this video series. I’m planing on doing the same swap. I have a 97 f250 with a 460. The donor truck is a 95 f250 7.3. I hope you continue this series, I’ve learned a lot from you. Thanks! Jeff from SoCal
Thank you! I have all of the content recorded, I just need to find the time to edit it, and get it published. Please stay tuned and make sure you click the "BELL" icon so you can be informed when I get them uploaded.
Just an FYI.... 97 460 ECM and engine harness are sought after. Those had a full sequential injection system where all the others had a batch fire system. People pay good money for those parts. The easy way to tell if it's a 97 ECM and sequential is to look for the mass air flow meter. If it has one, it's a 97. For only made that for 1 year. They idled smoother, made slightly more power, and had slightly better fuel efficiency.
@@mygarage. yes my truck has the MASS air. The truck is excellent condition just wish it had more power. I was considering the banks headers and upgrading the Throttlebody. In your last video you said you put an aftermarket cam in did that help? Did you need to do anything with the heads?
I put the banks headers in, comp cam, and the F3 casted heads, milled the block .030, bumped the fuel pressure up a few psi, and did everything I could without effecting the ECM calibration. It ran better, but still got crap fuel mileage.
Hello Again: At what point or video do you install the Glow Plugs ? Which Video ? Many Thanks, Dave Kellum... Trying to make a decision to by a Regular Long Block or a Chote HP Long Block ? Would love to get your opinion. My truck has 417,550 miles. No Smoke, but suspect injectors are leaking fuel into the oil pan...
I believe it was episode 2.5 that I install the glow plugs. I don't believe I videoed it though. I'm always skeptical of aftermarket engines. I would rather build my own, or have mine rebuilt by a reputable shop.
You should be able to line the timing mark on the crank pulley, then check the rockers on the #1 cylinder. They should both be loose, if one has tension, roll the engine 360 degrees and you should be on TDC.
The tool I used was an International special tool and I don't know the part number for that one. OTC makes one that is almost identical, its part # 303-770. The tool is about $400 to purchase.
Jeffrey, Thank you for the question. The wiring was one of the most time consuming parts of this swap. I do have a video that will come out for that. I had a 97 Super cab for a donor, and my truck is a 94 Crew cab. At first I thought it would be a pretty simple job.... Just swap the harness right??? NOPE!!! I had to re-pin the 94 harness to accept all the required diesel components. Please stay tuned as I hope to have that video up soon. I believe it will be in Episode 7. I am currently working on Episode 4, it's going to be a long one, but I will have the engine long block completed by the end of it!
@@mygarage. Ok cool. My girl has a channel and always has a hard time finding royalty free music. I appreciate your videos very clear and informative. I'm planing to idi- powerstroke swap an f450.
Ik it was a year ago but I still like to comment to inform the creator and viewers mainly viewers to kinda help them watch out for the small shit like this but there is a big ass crack on the driver side manifold which causes exhaust/boost leak and your motor will not run right nor build the proper amount of boost
@@mygarage. my apologies I had to re look my visions not all that great and from the bolt and backwards about 6” it looks like a major crack but may just be the weld seam
