On 10/27/2018, the Boston Fire Department received calls for a reported building fire in the Back Bay neighborhood of the city. First-due companies had fire showing in a five-story apartment building, with people trapped on the top floors. Two additional alarms were quickly struck by the IC, followed by four more as the fire progressed. | 10/2018

It was a very tough day to fight a fire. Winds were gusting to 40-45 with steady around 15-20 all day. It was around 50 degrees out. Rain was tremendous. The professional Women and Men of the Boston Fire Department are true professionals with a well funded and well staffed department. Excellent work.

On the ladder trucks there is no water lines on the ladder for a monitor. I notice the crews work with a manual hose line. Why is this.
@911ERV
@911ERV 5 лет назад
Boston moved away from pre-piped waterways on most ladders because of the way they do ladder work. The pipes would just get in the way of placement on rooflines; this is the alternative and it seems to work well for Boston jakes. Thanks for watching!

I don’t get why the D-7 chief was first on the scene. It should’ve been the D-4 chief seeing as it was their district!

@911ERV 3 года назад
I don't recall who made it to the scene first but I assumed it was Car 4 as it was their district like you said. Car 9 would have been the second-due if Car 4 was busy.

Boston only runs two tower ladders, each covering one of the city's two divisions. Tower Ladder 10 is one of the two and was assigned to the side and alley.

Interesting. for google it looks like this was two separate buildings behind a common facade.The south building survived the fire building did not. Did the tear down both buildings or only 104. From the alley you could see between the buildings to a court yard. It looks like the fire walls worked, at least from Google's sperspective. A more recent street view has not been posted. Thanks, Elias

@@911ERV the unmarked red Colorado is similar to what both BFD & the state fire marshal arson investigations unit uses. Other cities on the bay state use a similar type vehicle, Cambridge for example uses a black Ford F-150 for it's arson investigations and EOD UNITE. The vehicles all will have some side skirt hatches to hold various equipment.
@857firephoto
@857firephoto 4 года назад
I don't think the black pickups in Cambridge is for Arson. The Cambridge PD owns a few black F-150s which are for K-9, EOD and SRT but I dont think they use it for fire investigations. Cambridge FD has its own FIU which currently runs with unmarked crown vics however a new car has been delivered to the city for FIU. I'm not sure what it is though, the firefighter who told me about it didn't remember but someone else thought it may have been a Tahoe. Based off Cambridge's recent purchase of Ford vehicles I would doubt its a 2019 Expedition which looks fairly similar to a tahoe but. That red Colorado is most likely Arson which recently got a new Silverado as well however it could be communications.

4:34 Now that we have the roof ventilated and the windows on the top floor are broken out, we have a wonderful flow path to burn the roof right off this sucker. 5:00 Hundreds of gallons of water sprayed in one small are for more than a few seconds is wasted and the fire continues. You have to get IN there and surgically extinguish this. 5:50 If that much water in one spot isn't enough, let's double it. 6:30 How much of that water is actually getting inside on burning material? Maybe you should get off the ladder, get inside and be more accurate. 6:55 Looks like the fire is getting bigger. Squirt harder! 7:44 All that Ventilation and the fire gets bigger. Shooting water Blindly through a window is Not Fire Fighting! 11:30 If this is the end, the fire is really ripping now. You don't continue a useless tactic Just to keep busy. If it's having no affect, stop, think and do something different.

JB91710 wow did you just graduate fire school? And yeah keep hiding behind that keyboard instead of maybe donning some gear and seeing how you handle this ... this is a tough job, but big cities like this are even more difficult. Do us all a favor, stay behind your keyboard and watch the men work.
