My favourite is the dark souls 3 gwynevere painting knight. There's your 1st silver knight of the game in a huge room looking away from you perfect for a backstab so you approach. Then, just before being in range to backstab, an archer behind launches a beach umbrella at you. What make it perfect is the knight could have shot you at any point in the approach but instead waits for the perfect comedic timing.

Shout out to almost all NPC invasions in DS2. Especially Maldron. Man disguises himself as a chair in Brume Tower, then after getting caught, leads you towards an area with enemies abound and curse aura about. And after failing with that, he disguises himself as a white phantom and emotes at you with a wave, then if he earns your trust, backstabs you, and if that doesn't kill you, leads you towards another covetous demon. Or the hex mage in Eleum Loyce who after killing you, throws a "thank you" stone.

The alluring skulls in dark sousl 2 and 3 are hilarious and dickish in their mockery. The item is "A skull of unknown ownership. Smashing it releases traces of souls, which can attract nearby foes." Turns out you can be that foe. I relized it in the Shrine of Amana in DS2. The area has movement slowing water, fast enemies, and homing ranged magic attacks. Near the end theres this little ramp with an item on the top, heading to it moves you out of cover and into the range of the mages and other enemies. So you put yourself in danger to get this item, sitting as if on a pedastal, only to get an alluring skull for all the risk. Who really gets lured here?!

These are all excellent contenders and there are so many more... The Guardian Ape staying dead just long enough for you to really believe it. That one staircase in the Ringed City where you can't even talk to an NPC without being smashed by two of the largest enemies you've ever seen. Making us fight the Maneater on a ledge about two steps wide. And then bringing a second one in. That second shark giant jumping down to attack you in the well.

@spoon1555
@spoon1555 2 года назад
That second shark absolutely should've been on the list. He's manufactured to be an absolute prank. The fact that he's already very hard, and then half way through his health bar he starts running off, a behaviour none of the other shark giants have, only to have an enemy you can only see with extreme camera movement presumably drop down on you as you follow the retreating other shark. And now you've got to fight both of them. The only way it would be more of a joke is if the reward was less useful.

Speaking of Bloodborne DLC. How about the blood river with the blood lickers and all the burst fire machine guns... Then you make a wrong turn and a hunter with a literal minigun is shooting at you. I don't count Old Yharnam, Djura is easy enough to dodge. Call of Fromsoft
@SolaScientia
@SolaScientia 2 года назад
@@DarksteelHeart Very true. I had a rough time in Old Yharnam. I didn't realize where Djura's ladder was and that I could have climbed up, shot him off the tower, and then gone down to fight his ally below. I did the stupid thing and fought his ally while also having to dodge around the gatling gun attacks. It was rough and I was a bit annoyed afterward when I saw where the ladder was. It's out of the other hunter's aggro range, I think, so unless the other would have climbed up after me, I could have taken Djura out first.

I make my way back to the chest and wonder how Aurheim got behind me, since there was no hiding place and the corridor was to long to run up. Standing in front of the chest again, I turn around. It's like that one starting gift in Dark Souls (it's a piece of jewelry or something) that's completely pointless. Fans have spent so much time trying to find the meaning for it and it turns out Miyazaki just put it there for fun and there is not special meaning to it. A lot of art is like that in general. The entry about the Mimic in Sens Fortress brought back traumatic memories of my first Mimic encounter in DS2. Chests in DS2 don't have chains, so I had spent hours and hours religiously whacking every chest I found trying not to break them by accident and by the time I reached Earthen Peak I had just about convinced myself that there were no Mimics in this game, so I ran up to the next chest I found and opened it without checking. There are a couple in Dark Souls 2. In the Catacombs, there are these massive Knights using metal doors as shields and standing in both doorways and corridors in the dark, holding the "doors" in front of them. Or in Aldia's estate there's a 'dead' skeleton dragon in the entry hall which, if you complete all the criteria, will the next time you go there come alive and throw it's skull at you. Or in the poisoned mines, there are numerous poison filled sinkholes with interconnected tunnels with loot - except for one halfway through the area, which is just a dead drop. Or in one DLC you will get an invasion message that a mad warrior has invaded you. He's really tough and after you beat him and go on around the corner, you realize *there are 12 of them, all counting as one invasion.* There's more, but I can't remember all of them.

Patches should probably have his own list. I, like Luke, avoided him pushing me into the swamp in the Nightmare Frontier (only because I got lost and then blundered into the ending area with the shortcut and thusly bypassed like half that area). "Holier than the Pope" is one I've got to remember. I love you guys using Mergo's Wet Nurse's theme for the Bloodborne part; I love that music so much. I didn't know the log would detach from the chains like that, so I about died laughing there. Thanks to Luke's streams, I just walked around the traps and didn't trigger them. I did, however, walk across the planks covering that small well/hole in the ground a bit further along in the area. I either forgot or didn't notice, so I jumped and swore when I got dumped down it. Thankfully I didn't get killed by it. "That's enough Sekiro for today" has been my general approach to all the Soulsborne games of late. I'll play a bit and then decide that I've had enough for now. That's in part so I don't feel burned out come Elden Ring, but also because I'm at slightly annoying parts in all the games and just don't want to deal with whatever nonsense I'm headed toward (the Yahar'gul gank squad of 3 hunters, followed by the One Reborn, and then the damned Winter Lanterns of the Nightmare of Mensis...yay). I'm embarrassed to admit I fall for the ol' loot lust trap a bit too frequently. I chased after a Crystal Lizard in the ruins before the Crystal Sage and I got jumped by a guy hiding behind the wall. I actually stopped and thought about it before I chased it, because I figured it was a trap. I still did it, so it goes to show where my priorities are, lol. "Why are you ticking?" I changed that bolt gem to something else and then went after her again. I died pretty quickly but I also dealt more damage. The second attempt was when I got her. I stayed in close on her left or just behind her and wailed on her with the saw cleaver + bolt paper. I also got extremely lucky. I avoided getting blood spewed on me and she didn't bring out the stupid space laser attack. I don't know if it's because I didn't give her time or what, but that's been the only fight that I've lasted long in when the laser didn't come into play. I'd have tried Damian again if that hadn't worked. He was my bro for Rom and I used him for 2 Ebrietas attempts. The first time he died quickly and did fuckall to help. The second time I actually died before he did. He was awesome at keeping her busy and dealing ranged damage on her. Then I died and that's when I learned I needed to respec the gems on the cleaver. Do the three little pigs in the what is more or less what is your Firelink Shrine area in Dark Souls 2 count, because accidentally aggro'ing them is...hilarious. I ran away once, thought they had stopped following me, went to let the blacksmith into his smithy, and they rolled right in and killed me mid-convo. (I love this list video to bits. So much trauma brought back by one video. Especially the Ringed City, eugh.)

I find it fascinating that I have never used it to get to the next floor. Every time I've done Sen's, I start on the top floor and go down to the mimic. I know it comes out (or comes in from) somewhere that seems like it could be the "normal" way, but because it's always backtracking for me, I forget how to get there from the bottom. :P Also, the spikes never got me because the first time I saw the lift, I noticed its "up" time was incredibly short, so I simply went down. I did die once to them because I just wanted to be sure and rode it up, and as with most times I "just want to check and see if I'm right about death" it showed me I was.

Also as someone who played dark souls 1 and 3 as well as bloodborne, i fell for most of these traps. One I expected to see but didn't occurred in the depths. There's a tunnel with a rat that flees from you, but if you chase it and aren't paying attention to your surroundings you'll fall into a pit full of basilisks. So surprised by the sudden fall, I wasn't ready for what happened next and got cursed and had my life bar halved. So yeah, nasty trick.

DS2 SOTFS having the three little pigs is Majula, the hub area where you’re supposed to be safe Also, just the whole Black Gulch area where you constantly have poison spat at you from statues, giant worms and Hand monsters coming out of tar pits and just as you think the worse is done, you have to deal with an NPC invader which you can’t really avoid because you can basically be invaded at any time regardless is you’d just used a human effigy or not And the second bonfire that you can rest at is blocked by a petrified statue so you better have a fragrant branch of yore in your inventory And after all that, you got to deal with The Rotten and Aldia popping out of his bonfire lol

Dark Souls 2, the Lost Bastille. What appears to be an empty, small, open room with a chest and a pit. As you head to loot the chest, bam! Pursuer. And he shows up all over Lost Bastille. It's a real dick move, dropping that jerk into a small room and expecting you to kill him.

I wish I had been able to record it! One time, while playing Darksouls, I had a player invade. I was new, I was inexperienced, and I was well aware of the fact that player killers were a thing in Darksouls. Imagine my surprise when the invading player charges me, I dodge to the left, and then said player somehow swings his sword over the cliff. I was so baffled that I didn’t think to move for a good minute! Also, I took his loot.

Kinda surprised to not see the absolute comedic genius that was the ambush in Tomb of Giants in Dark Souls 1. You get baited by a Bone Tower that sinks back into the ground, revealing a Skeleton Archer that, if you try to fight it - leads you directly into the path of *another* Giant Skeleton whose only purpose is to BOOT you off the cliff. It's even one of the only times that animation is used by an enemy, IIRC (It might be that it just always does the kick 1st, instead). It's just so perfectly executed you honestly can't even be mad at it.

I recently started playing dark souls for the first time and the first path my eyes noticed was the path filled with skeletons in a graveyard so naturally I killed them without fear, till I looked back and saw that they ain't dying so I chose to run till I found a GIANT SKELETON which *ONE SHOT* me so I decided to chose a different route which led me to some ghosts that I can't damage... I gave up on playing it blind and decided to RU-vid a play through

That nonsense is why I don't play a FromSoftware game blind. I try to avoid boss fights and big moments, but I don't want to screw up convoluted questlines and some areas are confusing to the point of being a big annoyance and I don't have the patience for that bs. It's why I'm nervous about Elden Ring. It's the first FS game that I'm going into when everyone else also is (I was late to the party for all the other games). Thankfully I play open-world games pretty slowly and methodically, so by the time I've reached a problem area/NPC loads of people will have gotten there before me.

Mine was quite similar the first time and then drastically different and resulted in me giving up on it for a couple years. So I refuse to look at faqs and walk throughs the first time. I paid I want to play not see someone else do it. And I too went the skeleton route with similar outcomes. Then I went the new londo ruins route and that didn’t work. Then I somehow engaged in jolly cooperation without knowing it and this guy ran me through passed the bell gargoyles and into another area either darkroot or blighttown. Then he logged out. And I was stuck way further in the game with zero knowledge, no homeward bones(not that I knew what they were yet), no idea where to go or how to get back and I just kept dying until I quit. Couple years later I tried again, remembered going left and up right away and now the three souls are among my favourites. It’s super rewarding if you stick it out and accomplish something. And so much better if you can do it solo yet more fun as jolly cooperation. Just terrific games.
@SolaScientia
@SolaScientia 2 года назад
@@aelechko So? I don't always like playing a game blind. It depends on the game. I did play a tiny bit of Dark Souls way back on Steam and I did play it blind. I still instinctively headed up the stairs toward the Taurus Demon area instead of down to the skeletons. I figured it was bad news just from the vibe I got. Me not playing blind is less to do with figuring out which way to head first and more to do with keeping NPCs alive and otherwise not screwing up the convoluted questlines as I mentioned previously. And I am actually slowly getting through Sekiro mostly blind, so it's not every single FS game, but basically all of them.

Dark Souls 2 has a ton of ingenious dick moves that I hope show up on a follow-up video down the road. :D There’s the breakable chests for everyone used to attacking to test for mimics, the repeatedly spawning undead that summon a horde of pyromancers in the Undead Crypt, and - like, the entirety of Shrine of Amana… But the chef’s kiss was when the Shaded Woods introduced enemies that look the same as the player phantoms you’ve seen everywhere for the last two Soulsborne games - that is, until they stab you in the back.

Another from the Bloodborne DLC: Heading down the well in the Fishing Hamlet where you have to fight one of the giant shark bastards. Fighting one is already hard enough, but once you get its health down to half, another that was clinging to the ceiling drops down and they start double-tearming you. Worst part is while you climb down the ladder, if you twist the camera around just right you can see the one that's literally hanging out, waiting to ruin your day.
