also destroys the membranes in your digestive tract, particularly in the small intestine. Those long protein chains are very hard to break down especially after they've been exposed to heat since they become entangled. So they sit on the inner surfaces of your intestine and the amino acids cause damage to the cells due to the nature of their acidity. They aren't meant to just sit there for so long. This can lead to ulcers similar to how some people get ulcers because their own stomach acid is getting to places where it shouldn't be. Such as the small intestine. Or in the other direction, the esophagus.
I'm a high school science teacher, my school recieves free breakfasts that I used to have to help serve to the kids. I've been banned from serving, or even being in the same room when they are serving. I asked the wrong question. And I calculated the percent of calories from carbohydrates out loud, then calculated the percent of those calories that were wheat and corn. The nutritionist swears that according to the government standards everything they serve is healthy and good for the children, and I swear that they are ruining the kids livers, pancreas s, and slowly poisoning them to death, not to mention training their little bodies to have to be fed every hour and a half all day long. Like I said, I've been banned from the room when they are serving.
There are none so blind than those who *refuse* to see! Just watch, in years to come it will be 'discovered' that what is basically Keto + intermittent fasting = less obesity and other diseases.
Kati Melton that is Terrible and something that needs taken to local legislators . I know we grew up on garbage too, but aren’t we supposed to be better and learn lessons?
I gave up wheat, grains and all processed foods 16 months ago, and what a difference it has made. Now I eat everything my Doctor told me to stay away from, and when he gets my results back he wants to know how I got everything to normal or better levels.
Yeah, my doctor is still somewhat confused how I was able to drop my A1c from 8.7 to 5.2, lower triglicerides and LDL, raise my HDL,, and lower total cholesterol to under 200 in 3 months by eating mostly fat, all without the meds he prescribed.🤣
When my blood results came back my doctor was surprised, he asked me what I was doing to get the improvements. I told him Keto diet. He was surprised, asked me what’s a Keto diet. Just changed my doctor.😳😳😳🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽

@Ritesh Arora I don't even notice that wheat is no longer part of my diet. I eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and plant based proteins. For carbs, they make plenty of gluten free foods that use Potato starch, Tapioca starch , or rice instead of wheat. I don't even notice.
@Ritesh Arora None. No health issues. Where as before this change, I had severe GI issues related to a Gluten allergy. If I had not made this change I would be chronically unwell.
How long do it take for you to notice a reduction in pain..I have been taking kratom for arthritis and it's 100% effective and no side effects..thanks 😀😷👍👌🇺🇸🤗
As an endurance athlete, I’ve always lived on carbs. Over the past 2 years, I’ve developed chronic inflammation. I had pretty much accepted the fact that I would live the rest of my life in pain. 3 days ago I cut out all grains. In that short of time, my range of motion has improved dramatically. No more pain in my joints and just feeling overall better. I had added coconut oil and golden milk to knock down the inflammation, but the elimination of the grains is most probably the main part. Peace, all.
Grains are all okay. It's the way you guys produce them that's the problem. I don't eat any snack myself because most of our wheat comes from Western countries.
I agree with you, I’m celiac so no gluten for me. GF bread and grains still make me feel unwell, my IBS flares. I ate GF fish and chips last night I haven’t been glutened, whatever substitute flour they used to make the GF batter, hasn’t agreed with me . Plus they use cheap nasty veggie oils. The next step for me is to go carnivore, I’m just finding it so hard to get there, as I’m not a big meat eater.
Toni Kennedy I cut out sugar and it completely eliminated my acid reflux. I was having gallbladder issues and my homeopathic Dr. told me to eat whole wheat.....it’s quite confusing when 5 different doctors give you 5 different bits of advice😏
It may only be coincidental, but after I minimized grain and other carbohydrates over the last 6 weeks, a persistent left knee joint pain has markedly reduced.
usamwhambam My husband experiences this, as well, when he cuts out or even greatly reduces wheat. Sometimes he gets away from that, though, and starts eating it again. Return of the knee pain reminds him of why he was avoiding wheat, and gets back to it.
Hi. Thanks for your message. Your husband and I must share similar wheat-phobic genes. Good luck to him when he drives by a donut shop, wheat and sugar-the double sided threat
Yes! I went without it for a couple of weeks and my knees stopped hurting completely! Then I gave in and within 2 days, they were hurting again. Went back off and they feel good again. Not a coincidence!!🙂
@@KenDBerryMD I sure could use your help with a terminally ill friend and his cancer fight. I've been pointing him you're way but hes fighting the depression associated with his diagnosis. Has a tumor on his spine😢
Dr. Berry is a wealth of knowledge. I listened to my fist video of Dr. Berrys about how to lose 50 pounds or more 1 year ago. As of today 1 year later I have lost 117 pounds down from 308 to 191 lbs. Thank you Dr. Berry!!
I quit eating all wheat for about two weeks since it caused me heartburn, fatigue, and anxiety. Well, I started eating it again a few days ago. In the form of breaded chicken strips, nuggets, and bread. My god I feel awful! My symptoms have increased 10 fold. I noticed I got a headache after my first wheat meal, but I didn't think anything of it. Then it got worse and worse the more I ate. Around day two of eating wheat again, I started doubling over in pain. That never happened as severely before. I was bloated so badly I couldn't stand up straight. And then there is the heartburn, holy crap the heartburn. I have never had heartburn this bad before. My throat is on fire and has been for a couple of days now. Not to mention I am hyper-salivating like crazy because of the reflux and it is driving me mad! I haven't had wheat since last evening, and I don't see me ever eating again! It's hard to believe just two weeks off of it could make me react this badly!
That's probably how it always made your body feel, but over time your brain just numbed the perception to be able to cope, until you didn't even noticed it consciously anymore.
Hello Joshua. I think that a proper test would be to eat wheat as berries. Like a bulgur wheat soup or salad. Breaded chicken strips and similar foods contain enriched flour, which is a refined product with tons of additives. It's not a whole food. You might be reacting to some of the synthetic components that are added to flour. Greetings
I was eating oatmeal every morning for cholesterol. Whole wheat bread and rolls. After seeing this video in Apr. I quit all grain products, I also stopped dairy intake as per another video. My knees were getting to where I could not go up stairs or walk comfortably, getting up from the floor was very difficult. Now my knees are 100% better, I have lost 35# and have no more acid reflex, also a Basal cell carcinoma on my forehead has healed . Thank you Dr. Berry for the great info. in your videos I feel like a new man.
@@bcdadiaries7914 oats could get contaminated with wheat, for example due to the way it would be farmed, like with other neighboring farmland with wheat. Naturally oats should not contain any gluten. So I read.;)
I have Hashimoto’s and had read that eliminating wheat from my diet was recommended. Most likely due to the antigens attacking my own cells. Serendipitously I no longer get migraines! 🙂
it is the same with me. I used to have migraines every month (so did my mom and my grandma - so I used to believe that it is inherited and I have to put up with it). When I stopped eating all grains - after 9 months I discovered a pack of headache pills in my handbag and only then realized that I no longer needed those.
Sebastian Fitness Page well if it works for you. Potatoes are high in Oxalates so I guess your trading one bad thing for another. However, I occasionally have a baked potato with lots of real butter on it. I think the choice is really what you feel is best for you. Just my humble opinion. Good luck on your journey and God bless.
@@BurnedLeo Grains are not a necessity; not a gluten problem. I really think it was GMO and pesticides/herbicides. I saute shredded cabbage instead of spaghetti or zucchini in lasagna.

@@georgemichaels9057 yes me too, the pains in my joints ,make me feel so old, and weak. And the inflammation has gone too. Especially in my knees and hands….
@@lindab8397 That’s great, in my case I suffered for a year before finding out about Keto and it’s still working for me. I tell all my friends and family but disappointingly you can’t convince all of them that sugar and carbs are the cause of damage and inflammation in the body. Keep it up and you won’t regret it.
@@georgemichaels9057 I know what you mean about trying to convince people , it’s because they can’t stand the thought of giving up something they like …. Glad it worked for you 👍🇬🇧
It's taken me a while to accept my wheat sensitivity and still long to indulge. My symptoms are relatively minor (itchy skin, minor rash, peeling mouth/lips, joint inflammation). Glad to be in a healing stage since going wheat-free.
@CookieMonster_ my body and bones hurt, I feel fatigue and weak like I'm 90 years old, my body swells almost like retaining water and I keep gaining weight, I had a weight loss surgery, and even eating like they said, I couldn't lose the weight, but now sever years after my weight loss surgery and 2 years after finding out about my wheat allergy, I and 235 pounds. Before I was 420 pounds. I also get runny nose swollen Tonsils, heavy caughing, hard breathing, but that's all gone since going wheat free
@CookieMonster_ I also can't eat eggs, the only thing that happens to me with eggs is bloating, after I eat them I go up 3-5 pounds, I also have a sensitivity to other grains and I'm allergic to millet, millet is in a lot of gluten free substitutes like gf bread, gf sweets. I also have issues with oinions and coffee. Oats and coffee is a high risk of cross contamination with the growing part of wheat. A wheat allergy can have many of the same symptoms as other food allergies, but there is also celiac disease which is caused by gluten the protien in wheat, in the long run celiac can cause stomatch cancer, celiac causes alot of the same symptoms as a wheat allergy except celiac won't cause anaphylaxis or allergy symptoms, then there is also gluten sensitivity and it can also cause the same symptoms except it won't cause stomatch cancer. Look up the chart for celiac disease it will have all the possible symptoms, oh and I forgot to mention my wheat allergy also causes brain fog, I was convinced I was getting memory loss but after not eating gluten my memory is almost back to normal. But if you have multiple food allergies or food sensitivity they are not connected they are just what your body is reacting to. The best thing to do is eliminating diet.
@CookieMonster_ yeah not everyone body built the same, we have to do our best to learn our body to feel better. I honestly feel my best on whole foods. But I start snacking of processes food and feel a little off.
J Perez generally yes, the theory is because it doesn’t carry as many nutrients as something like meat or eggs, making you hungrier than you need to be, so you eat more. But I was just summarizing the main points of the video.
J Perez yes, you stay hungry because there is not enough vitamins. You have to eat more of it, and eat it more often than if you cooked and egg or 2. Eating more wheat means more fat on your body for most people.
I quit eating wheat and other grains 2 years ago. After the first two weeks, my arthritis pain disappeared and stayed away. I am almost 71 years old. I also started intermittent fasting 2 years ago (6 - 8 hour eating window).
Recently situation was where I had to eat wheat - financial difficulties and wheat is "filling". I noticed within minutes awful pain in my arm muscles and severe joint pain. When I eat it, I can hardly walk. And my depression shoots thru the roof.
I started carnivore 6 months ago with a few small cheats since then - within 3 days my body didn't ache anymore. My right hand had arthritis in it and I often had to ask for help when opening things. (It would also throb in pain at night) Now I have amazing strength in that hand - can open everything and even throw football with my grandsons which is a joy. All I have to do is take a good look at my hand compared to my left, and that is yet another reason I am not going back to eating junk. So glad you kept popping up on my phone Dr. Berry!!
I began milling my own wheat and baking my own bread….no more store bought flour….I have never been healthier. My tummy is in great shape now, my skin has responded better than I could imagine healing my rosacea completely, no IBS. It has been the best decision of my life. Remember, Jesus compared Himself to the bread of life.❤ Throw out the store bought flour…that is the culprit not the wheat unless born with Celiac.
My personal theory is it's not the wheat itself. Our ansisters ate wheat for thousands of years. The issues started in the industrial age, wheat was modified both genetically and during processing. Not to mention the pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. My husband has suffered from gerd for many, many years. I removed wheat from his diet, including all processed foods. He was able to stop taking his PPI's (which btw are only ment to be taken for a short time, but he was prescribed these for decades), stopped taking Tums/calcium bicarbonate and now only has a tsp of baking soda with a glass of water every now and then. My theory is that the inflammation arises from your bodies reaction to the GMO and poisons the wheat is sprayed with, not the actual wheat.
"thousands of years" is literally nothing in terms of human evolution. We were eating almost nothing but meat for 2-3 million years prior to the advent of agriculture ~10kya, and this is what our bodies are adapted to. Humans are carnivorous apes, not graminivores.
Totally agree, same with milk products, they inject the cows with hormones , which causes us to get inflammation. I do wish all food was organic. Like it used to be. Trouble is organic foods are so much dearer.
Thank you again! I've recently gone off my keto diet in a big way! With the lockdown and distance teaching its been easier to just eat what's available. You and the terrible symptoms I've been suffering have given me new resolve to do better.
I remember eating everything "Whole wheat" because my doctor recommended that to me. I have changed so much my choices when eating. THANKS DR. BERRY! YOU'RE AWESOME 🙏😊
I wish I had seen this video years ago. Last year, my Dr and I found out that wheat was the root cause for my chronic fatigue, severe depression and anxiety, brain fog, constant migraines, joint pain, and rosacea. Which is an odd combo of symptoms. Turns out, I can't have wheat at all. I don't get intestinal pain, just brain and inflammation issues. The awful perpetual sleepiness, constant headaches, and inability to think clearly made me think I had a brain tumor or something. It was cumulative and kept getting worse over time until I was a shell of a person. Not eating wheat has basically given me my life back. I still get migraines from other triggers, but they're manageable, and I do deal with stress and minor seasonal depression issues, but to have all the other symptoms gone? It's been amazing. If I cheat and have a little wheat, I know I'm going to have to have a migraine the next day, need to nap a lot, and have anxiety and brain fog issues for 2-3 days after. I had no idea wheat could affect people in ways that weren't related to intestinal pain. So bizarre.
I had these exact same symptoms from dairy! I suffered for years and if I complained to a doctor about how exhausted I was, they'd always say, "Everyone's tired." Yeah, thanks for the helpful advice, Doc. At any rate a holistic doctor ran a test for common food allergens when all my other doctors wouldn't run allergy tests (they acted like I was asking them to personally pay for the test!). Long story short, now I do dairy-free Keto and feel fantastic. I hope you continue to feel the same. It's such a relief.
@@Jean-gc6pr same here, I used to get so angry with my Dr , she made me feel I was making it all up. It started in my 40’s , and now in her 40’s also my eldest daughter has same problems . You know your body and when things are just not right. Nobody else can tell you how you are feeling.
I had the same symptoms. Now, if I eat even a small piece of wheat product I suffer the consequences the next day! Glad I’m in control of how I feel most of the time.
I have been doing keto for 3 months (not for weight loss, mainly just to feel healthy) and decided to do a "cheat day". What a huge mistake. I felt so awful for the next few days. I literally feel so much better without the carbs and eating just one meal a day.
Here you go saving lives again. 🙄 Thank you Dr. Berry. I want to come to Nashville just to have a consultation with you. Thank you for your unparalleled work in making humanity simplify our issues nutritionally and how to overcome them.
Wheat has been so dramatically hybridized that it’s not the food that people were eating 50-60 years ago and before; it has a very different chromosomal profile; the classic genetic modification people rightly should fear.
Another interesting thing of note is that breads used to often be made with fermented grains. Fermenting is one of the best ways to isolate antinutrients. Id drink german, non glyphosate soaked wheat(beer) before id ever eat it!
@@BlasphemST Yes I was going to mention the fermentation. Until they came out with the instant yeasts a decade or two back, they (as traditionally done) fermented the dough over night, typically 7 hours. The fermentation neutralizes the problems with the grains and makes them human safe. Another method is to sprout the grains (typically soak in water for 24hrs). The hybridization (25 thousand iterations!?) is also a concern of course, as is genetic modification of the food. We have NO guarantee that such modifications are not harmful in some way for the human body. Another huge problem with GMO is that it's "RoundUp Ready" - they spray the crops with RoundUp JUST BEFORE HARVEST, and we really don't want those type of toxins in out bodies. So sourdough made from spelt or older grain types is probably fine for us to consume, and very similar to what was eaten 2000 years ago. However it's still carbohydrates of course, and especially if we're attempting to recover from decades of poisonous diet (SAD) and the bodily damage caused by such super high carb. diets, it's best to avoid all grains completely. Grace; apparently there were two common wheat types back 2000 odd years. One had 14 and the other 28 chromosomes. There are videos on RU-vid all about that. But yep, I'll eat Einkorn or similar once I find a supply of those grains/flours (Aus). At thee moment I buy spelt sourdough but it's only as a treat (one piece), and not every day. It's easiest (meaning no unnatural appetite) to have none at all.
Almost none of our food is what it was fifty years ago, whether it be fruit, grains, vegetables, dairy, or meat. All the mineral deficient fertilizers, pesticides, amd GMO don't help either. Air and water are worse as well. And government which is supposed to look out for the citizen bails out the industries causing the problems.
Grace Cotton Much of the modern wheat has something like 46 chromosomes to make the wheat shorter and with a bigger seed head; a mutation that wheat wasn’t meant to be. I have used einkorn which is a safe alternative.
I went through some degree of insulin resistance years ago and my doctor ultimately told me to forego medications that made me feel bad and read the south beach diet book. It literally changed my life. It fully explains how your body works with foods and basically follows this same idea you are telling. I don't have to eat a lot, I don't gain weight, I almost never get a headache, I don't feel drained, (that was my original complaint). I just wish I could convince my daughter and grandson of the same.
You’re explaining all of this calmly but I’m screaming internally understanding how cascading all of these individual effects are, much less combined. 10/10.
Dr. Berry, just commenting because I've been watching your videos and I love how you break it down for laymen to understand. Low Carb Down Under and USA do an OK job for someone with undergraduate experience, e.g., me, but for family, you are so much easier to follow. Same for the others with similar videos. Keep up the great work, we need more science-based physicians like you.
I stopped eating bread just 6 days ago and my brain fog has completely gone, and I have so much more energy. I cannot believe simply taking bread out of my diet has had this much of an effect. I also stopped eating bread by accident, I just didn't have any bread to eat around me like I did before. This is a game changer and I'll be looking at stopping ALL wheat.
Once again another video you do that I just need to share with hopes and prayers that it may just change one persons mind on what they put in their body. Pray more that it reaches many thank you Dr. Berry for all you do.
Wheat has been one of the hardest things to quit for me. Whenever I 'relapse' with eating, I relapse to products made from wheat. I do think I notice I feel worse after eating it, and it's not just from being knocked out of ketosis.
Bread is my hardest thing not to have . But occasionally I will have a slice ,and nothing happens, but if I have say toast for breakfast then a sandwich for lunch , and biscuits ,I then am suffering. Gas , and pains ….. but I know not to go mad , just now and again.
I suffered an allergy, runny nose in morning and sneezing for 18 years. I thought it was pollen. By accident trying to fix a seperate problem, I cut out bread and then realised I felt so much better. I've been doing a little test cutting out all fruit, sugar and bread. Before I stopped bread again, I had some so called health whole grain bread and next morning was having issues with my nose again. Its now been almost a month since then without any and it's the 7th day I've not had to even blow my nose. I'll never go back. 😷👍
The same experience I have for 50 years. It was last year 2020 that I discovered that any food with wheat is the culprit. Now I am free. But just 4 weeks ago I tried wheat meal again, and the symptoms returns with vengeance. I abstain again and became free.

We already ran this experiment, back in ancient Egypt, where wheat was the center of their commerce, diet, and religion. Everyone from laborers on up to the Pharos had massive tooth decay and malnutrition, as their diets consisted of wheat, beer and honey, with some vegetables, but almost no meat. To their credit they did have toothbrushes, but to little avail, as the problem was more internal than external.
Sebastian Fitness Page mainly super draining. I get very sleepy. But now I can’t handle more than a bite or two because of the texture/taste now. I’ve been Keto/low carb for a little over a year now.
I stopped eating wheat, and anything else with gluten 7 years ago and my inflammation went way down. I started having far fewer migraines, and my joint pain disappeared. In 2019 I started Keto and IF and don't eat any grains at all. I have had maybe 3 or 4 migraines in the past year, a far cry from the 3 or 4 I used to have every month. Grains also spike my blood glucose terribly. I'm better off without them for sure. I'm in the best shape I've been in since my 20's. (I'm 55 now.)
Yeah, I have Hashimotos. I am not allergic to gluten specifically, but definitely tested positive for wheat allergies. I now know that's the culprit for constant sinus issues and stomach problems when I was younger. I now stay away from it. Learned the hard way and ended up with an autoimmune disease. Thanks for the info!
This is hugely important information that needs to be adhered to. Everything the good doctor described should have my picture on it. I'm the poster child for not eating wheat or grains. It sure made me gluten sensitive. I was in terrible shape. I had inflammation everywhere. All of this happened to me. Long story short had a Chiropractor to tell me what was wrong with me. Went to the medical doctor they thought I was crazy. Finally, researched and got off gluten completely and changed my life no symptoms now.
@Cookie Monster my main symptoms were sinus infections constantly , swelling of my feet had to get a wheel chair for my husband to roll me to the dermatologist she put me on heavy steroids and also told me to never put anything with gluten in my mouth again, also stated having all kind of skin issues which I never had before . I have not had a sinus infection since going off gluten and dairy products because of similar proteins in dairy it can effect your system just like gluten no more swelling or anything.
Everything what's sounding like weed is not good I tell you! ;) In fact, I have stopped it for 4 days. I really just stop eating every bread done with white wheat and that was the game changer to my life! Really I thing it is nothing about wheat but something special to white wheat. No fatigue anymore. I am 100% awake during the day. I have tested everything.. no coffee, no sugar etc... stopping white wheat changed the game!
Let me give you another reason not to eat wheat if you have an hernia surgery or any other bowel surgery. I recently had to revert back to eating wheat secondary to financial crises. Note: I will not do this again! Post surgical, I have several strictures, or reduced expandable elasticity to my intestines. After a week of this, the wheat formed a blockage so my digestion shut down. I almost died! It took a lot of stool softeners and liquids only for several days before it finally cleared up. Not only that, my joints hurt so back, I could barely walk the short distance to the bathroom and back. I will do an extended 2 -3 week fast next time! It's better to live off the fat of the land than to even put one bite of wheat in my mouth!
For the last month, I've been eating entire boxes of couscous every other day... I've been lying in bed extra time and feeling nothing but bloated and in pain recently. Now I know, FOR SURE, what it's caused by. This, and an unusual amount of almonds... I'm 18, too. So the effects shouldn't be as bad and as lasting as this is, but it is! It's been 20+ hours since my last couscous box. Never buying it again. The bloating, gas, and pain is still here. It stays bad, then worse, then horrible, then bad and so on. God, please make it stop!
I'm watching this video after eating a bowl of wheat cereal and practically going into a damn coma an hour later. Of course this isn't an isolated event, this has been happening for year and years. But I'm done. Today was just extra ridiculous considering prior to the bowl I'd been up for a good few hours, stretching, doing laundry, vacuuming, showering, studying and then I decided to have a bowl. Within about an hour I was on the couch feeling as if I'd been drugged. - the fatigue was so extreme I felt almost paralysed, in and out of weird dreams and just feeling so heavy. Eventually got up and felt so drowsy and muggy. I've been meaning to throw this box of cereal out but always argue that I dont want to waste the food I've bought but I'm done. Even reading back what I've just wrote, its obvious what's going on. My body cannot handle this stuff.
Wheat that is naturally grown and harvested in an organic and sustainable way is good for you. The Roman army was mostly fed that way. Commercially grown and processed wheat has had alot of its nutrients depleted due to being pre-ground, raised on chemical fertilizers, sprayed with pesticides, and enriched synthetically with "nutrients". The Bran and the germ are also, often times, removed which lead to a highly glutenous starchy product that is less nutrient dense and lacks the benefit of the the nutrients given by the other previously mentioned parts. Wheat was designed to be consumed with all of the parts of the seed in-tact. Wheat must only be ground right before use if you wish to grind it. Never store it after it has been ground. It looses approximately 40% of its nutrition within a 24 hour period after it has been ground. Imagine how much of its nutrients have been lost after sitting on a shelf in some warehouse.
When I was younger in late 6o, s thru 1981 I was bulimic. I ate wheat like a madwoman even spoonfuls of wheat germ you bought to sprinkle on even more grain products like oatmeal. I was a mess for 11 years. In 2011 I read Wheat Belly and changed my life. Explained so much like depression and anxiety. The bulimia. Weight piling on. Went Paleo then. Keto 2 years now. Wheat and grains are truly poisonous.
I just bought a house and had to put all my stuff in storage and by the time I moved in the virus panic hit. There was almost no meat left to buy so we had to buy a lot of grains. My whole body feels like a nightmare. I finally found a local meat market that had some beef. Going to try to reset so I can take care of my patients and not become one
AshPooh1319 Congrats on your new house. Wow your ordeal sounds so stressful. I know I would have been triggered and started eating bad stuff...I'm more afraid of getting triggered than I am of the pandemic. lol
this can't be right because ancient history happened. we have ran on bread thousands of years and none of the side affects like these had any prevalence. the dominant problems were war and plague, not diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and inflammation. these are new affects of poor diet, bottom-of-the-barrel ingredients, and no physical activity. also constant use of medications with side affects :/ of course white flour is a big cause of type 2 diabetes but grains like semolina and whole wheat are significantly less threatening than soda, and every other substance that we get addicted too :/
Dr. Ken, can you comment on the "sourdough" bread craze? For instance, there is an infodemic of misinformation out there right now that fermented sourdough (the homemade kind that takes 48-72 hours to make) somehow bypasses all the negative aspects of wheat. Is that true? Does home-made sourdough bread still cause inflammation? Again for clarification, I am specifically referring to the homemade sourdough bread where a person soaks the wheat with water overnight first, then adds a starter of some kind the next day, then bakes on the third day.
I have been really good not having wheat in my diet, then one of my neighbours made toast, but back on the wagon again....thank you for your videos, it could be just me but I would like to see more pictures and diagrams during your videos... great job, keep them coming.
The reason grains weren't a problem 50 or 100 years ago but are a problem today is because they've been breeding them to be more and more pest resistant these last few decades. If the grain is too difficult to digest and too poisonous for pests....then it also becomes too poisonous and indigestible for humans. Now you know.
I would be curious to know the differences in wheat digestibility when it is fermented. Our ancestors always fermented their grains before processing into bread.
I never eat wheat, but I do use high quality flour to create my own breads and I feel fine. I'm looking into growing teff, buckwheat, or amaranth to mill my own flour. These flours aren't like the mass-produced flours that you buy in stores or that restaurants use. They have a very short shelf live once milled, and are loaded with nutrients like protein, iron, copper, B6's, etc. I don't think any of them contain glutamine.
My grandpa died at age of 98 and my grandma died at age of 104. Both of them were mainly living only on grains. Take it from me. Just be consistent on consuming whole organic not processed grains, and eat the grains with reasonable quantity. They are super food, full of nutrients and minerals .vitamins. one another quick note . When you consume grains as bread just don't forget to dough it with sourdough starter . This bacteria set the beneficial minerals free from the phytic acid. Do as I told and I'm pretty sure You will thank me .
@@carlos-ee6vv yes guys. mr berry is misleading people. i think its cos he is Keto advocate. starch like grains and potatoes are some of the healthiest whole foods. humans have been eating those for thousands of years.
They might of lived a long life with no problems, BUT that is not the case for a lot of people. It’s a shame but true. Keeping a food diary ,you can see what is the problem. And you can sort it. But for some people they don’t get affected by food they are the lucky ones.
I quit eating wheat a month ago and I’ve noticed that the dark blue circles under my eyes are nearly gone! I’ve struggled with them my whole life and now they’re almost completely gone. I’ve also noticed less joint pain, inflammation and gas. I used to have chronic gas and bloating from wheat. It’s also loaded with glyphosate, as are other grains including corn and oats, etc. Thank you Ken, you’re the very best!
Three years I was so sick, allergies, asthma, sudden on set. I found mold in my condo, thought it caused permanent damage. I gained 35 pounds in six months. Very sick and taking Simbacort and Zyrtec daily. Recently went wheat, gluten free, lost 20 pounds in one month, allergies significantly improved and no longer need an inhaler 2 times a day. I’m positive I have wheat allergy. My CRP was 5 and low Ferritin. I’m going to get allergy testing but this transformation was more than enough evidence for me. Sad I went to many doctors and not one could help me.
So I am 76 years old and saw a naturopath 3 years ago because of bowel issues. Testing came back with high reaction to all dairy including eggs, wheat, gliadin, corn and crab. I was told to not eat foods that contain these products. My husband has been supportive but still likes to eat what he has always eaten. Some parts of the country have an abundance of fruit and vegetables but in the northern parts of the US (I live in Wisconsin) we are not always so fortunate. If a product doesn’t have some kind of dairy in it, it has wheat. I know I do much better following my restrictions, but with our location and limited income it gets very difficult at times. I hope I never need extended hospital or assisted living stay - the food would kill me.
