I simply tell them upfront that I don’t believe in giving anyone money, I can talk to you through your problem and maybe give you some thought on who you could ask about getting some money? And if they asked me to go off the app I just tell them I don’t work like that, and they seem to disappear. if they don’t wanna meet right away I’m not interested. But in today’s world, you can meet a scammer at your local coffee shop. You just have to be diligent and protect yourself and have self-preservation because if they are really for you they’ll understand. Because I don’t show empathy until empathy is shown for me I don’t give respect until it’s earned. But I do like to mess with their heads it’s 😂

I feel the same way . I was looking for an apartment in Berlin New Hampshire on the internet and I looked where it was in town ( the street) and it was on a deserted road no houses!! Yup, that's how I see it too after personal experience all through 2020. 99% of those I asked to do face to face video or ring on the phone refused to do that very thing. I told them up front I had been scammed and now I required this proof. But they refused telling me I had no trust. Well doesn't that just prove my theory?

I just let a scammer go TODAY!! I am in a very vulnerable spot right now and while not even looking for someone, I was approached on another social media sight. I hate to admit it, but I haven't been spoken to this kindly in many years. Easy to feel flattered. The photo's of this man were my type and he was even smarter, he supposedly has a son. Pictures of him and his son 7 years ago and now. His wife passed of cancer 4 years ago. Everything seemed beautiful. Then he needed money until he got paid from a job on an oil field he was on for 6 months in Australia. Hurts a lot to have felt cared for and you know it's a scam so have to say good bye. Do not judge anyone for falling for this, because at times in our lives when we feel so alone, it's easy to want to be loved!! Human nature!!

He said, he had a humble beginning, he is 65 years old, the dad and mum died when he was very young and ended up in orphanage and build he life up now he is an orthopaedic surgeon. he loss his 21 years old married wife. he is from North Carolina but working in Yemen. he had only 1 son 7 or 9 years , can't remember. now where i started filling uncomfortable is when he told me he liked telling stories to her daughter then i confronted him that, but you said you had only one son? he tried to ignore that part of the question. i gave him some time and i brought it back still ignoring, but i would not let go. finally he said he had a daughter but she died 3 months ago and she was 14 years. apparently, everybody around this monster of a man are all dead except him and the son. another red flag only 2 days speaking with him on a text message and he is talking about marriage. the final blow for him was when he made a video call, he was speaking and the voice on the video and the hand gesture was not the same. it was a recorded voice. also he insisted i download Hangout because the Facebook account was for his work and for official use only

Frankly I've never had one positive experience with meeting people online. You might say that the scammers are a very small minority but I beg to differ with you. In truth it's the other way around. Meeting people online is far too risky and I'd rather meet someone in the conventional way or stay alone than subject myself to more of the liars and con artists I've already encountered while experimenting with the online dating. Never again.

I agree, there are more SCAMMERS than good guys on the dating apps/websites. The scammers can make so much money scamming people. I took the apps off my phone. I was really depressed when I was on those apps, now I’m happy with myself!

I have had 67 different scammers contacts in less than a year. If I had it to do over I would never put my year of birth on Facebook as they see I’m 74 and think I’m ripe for the picking. My answer to them every time is “I’m old but I’m not stupid”. Once you learn the script, you can easily spot them.

Matthew, I agree with everything you say in your video & it is good advice. But I disagree with your statistics, for those of us in the 55+ age range the percentage of scammers is around 50%. I've tried multiple dating sites (Match, Silver singles, Mature dating, OK Cupid, POF, etc.) and unfortunately there are many scammers on each of those sites. Ladies beware, don't let your guard down

When a guy pretends he's your favourite celebrity, talks smooth And Says he loves you , Says he wants a vacation with you, Says he is sending you a gift of Jewelry and a nice dress, But! He says his agent is contacting you for a package and a Special code to remember when the delivery gets to you, But it's Contactless? Be careful because Contactless could be Dangerous you don't know what amount of money and you have No comeback No recipt! It's More than likely a big scam/Fraud!!

Yah, that's what they'll try to tell us, is that they are dying when they run out of options, like they are working on a job outside of their own country, and have no money to see a doctor, can't access a hospital, and the company they work for out of their home place , have no medical insurance to cover them. Their co-workers can't help and they are desperate due to pain. That's an angle they use and I'm a retired nurse so it left me in dilemna but I'd given enough money to recognize it wa nothing but a scam and there's no return on any amount of time or effort you give to these con guys. We fall for some of it because we're human and they are masters at manipulating the emotions. Some are women who get behind the screen to relate to our inner feelings.

I agree with the comment posted below - they’re often “widowers” or in the military, or they’re doctors doing charitable works overseas. But almost always the first thing they want you to do is to go off-platform. I’ve learned if I tell them I’m not comfortable going off platform and they push back, then they’re either a scammer or they are someone who doesn’t respect boundaries which gets them blocked either way. I have also noted if you carefully read their profile and then read the exchanges they have with you, you’ll sometimes find that the later exchanges seem to come from a person who does not speak English as a first language, or they have significant difficulty with grammar and syntax. When the two comparative writing styles don’t align, I’m suspicious.

I was just catfished on a dating app. Glad it only took me four days to figure out. He said he was US Army, but the man in a picture he sent was wearing a British Naval uniform. I did an image search and found it was a stolen picture. I'll be doing image searches from now on.

It's a good thing you were observant! They all have high profile jobs where they are travelling and live a life that is full of excitement, but once they make the pitch, it's because calamity hits and they give you all the drama til you feel the guilt. If they ask whether you love them or not at that point, just present the question of how much anyone can love someone sitting behind a screen with a phone that is on the blink. You don't get to see their face beyond photos and anyone can post a photo. So glad you were observant !

Yeah! I think the vlogger made a mistake here. I believe there are more scammers online like you said and a little percent real people. Most Nigerians are finding scamming a lucrative job that they’re like working an office job cashing out on their unsuspecting victims. There should be a Task Force in that country to track down these scalawags and be answered for their evil, heartless and insensitive way to earn money much more wealth on their unsuspecting victims...Here the signs were given so ladies beware!

For me I use a good trick to show that I am real to someone online and you can ask them to do the same that is: to ask them to tell you a WORD OR WORDS then you write those words on anything and you take a fresh selfy picture of you with the words (they freshly told you to jot down right now) on say a piece of paper and then they can know it’s you and vice verse tell them to take a new fresh picture of themselves and to write down on a paper words you pick out of the blue. Then if you wanna go deeper tell them where to hold the paper with the words on it like over their forehead below their waist etc. that’s how I become less suspicious whether someone is real or is a fake trying to scam me

My method goes deeper than that because I got scammed by someone saying they were in my capital city about an hours drive from me. But turned out they were halfway around the world. SO I ask for a selfie with a landmark of that city in the background or standing by a statue or similar with 3 fingertips pressed into their cheek. They must send it to me immediately I ask for it. I don't tell them how I want their hand to be presented so they can't do a photoshop photo and send that when I ask. Another way is to ask them to go to the shops and when they are at the newsagent, for example, ask them to buy today's newspaper and hold it up and take a selfie so you can see the headlines or the front page photo. Many people won't do that sort of thing because they don't understand how deflating and debilitating it is to be scammed emotionally or love bombed.

But that doesn't tell you whether the person you are talking to is a scammer or not. That just tells you that they are human. Even nigerians can spell and write! And most even have a phone to take a selfie. But unless you specify that it should include their face, the selfie won't tell you whether they are black or white. You have to specify that you want to see their face and that it should be the same face as in the dating site account. And even then, I'm sure they can come up with an excuse or reason why they might not be able to take a photo of their face. Niether does it tell you where they are. You have to specify that you want the selfie taken infront of a certain landmark or object. Even then they will come up with an excuse why they can't do as you request. This I know from experience.

I got one! I knew it from the beginning cause he never would want to make a videocall. And never wanted to send me his location. Of course the same old story, a poor widow with a child in boarding school... but he/she was some stupid, wasn't coherent with what he said and... of course the day came when he asked me for the money... I asked for the bank account but he gave me a female name with a zip code. He said it would be enough. I told him that I did the deposit. He had to go and check. I laugh a lot after that... and told him I got you!!!

I have had alot of experience with scammers unfortunately over the past 4 years. 1 sign that hits me right away is that they call you dear alot. They ask about your health. And as mentioned in the video, they ask about your job.the it's your finances. I have had one ask what bank I used. Who my telephone and broadband provider is. They all seem to have had a partner or parents die in an accident .

Their conversation starts out very polite and formal with you then day by day they start to not make any sense anymore..it’s like these scammers are switching with each other to talk to you..and then they don’t understand common jokes so you have to explain it to them..if they’re urging you to get WhatsApp that’s a huge red flag!

I have a chatmate from dating site..just only for few days he said he loves me and wanted to marry me? I have kind of doubt to him now...Then he decided to me here in the Philippines.He arrived and he said he has kind of business transactions in somewhere...My doubt started to grow when last night he asked me to reload here on her phone...Then he send to me the million pesos check that he won on his bidding...And now he said he is in the bank going to withraw his money but he's asking me some money because he can't withraw the in bank! I met her on a hookup site called one night, long story short she told me she loved me and that she wanted to come to me and get married already, because to her I was the one. Thank you Mathew, I have been scammed once and I was online and all I attracted was scammers and blocked them. I only met one genuine person in a period of 3months. I already know how they operate. They either widows with a child or the wife dies of cancer or in an accident. They never call you and they want you to be exclusive without going on a date or meet in person. I learned a lot from that, now I'm a bit weary of dating online. Great advise for woman and men to.

You have to really watch it on line, as that's how it starts off. They want these Apple or Steam gift cards, or whatever you're able to afford, and then you are told how much you are appreciated. The amount they want later increases, along with the drama of why it's needed so much. They don't love you. They love money.

It's easy to spot, when they ask you for money or want you to invest in some bogus business. Or they ask for personal information or want you to send them nude photos of yourself so they can blackmail you later on.

What you said has all happened. The guy started out like a fairytales. I felt really special. The dynamics change slowly. He played on my giving nature. 2.5 years later, 25,000 in debt, my heart torn 💔. On line was no different then face to face. That is the big reality. I fell for the scammer due to my own need to be loved. I ignored my gut.

Have never given money to any strangers, but I have experienced all 7 of those examples for scammers. On thing I would add is that they often pretend to have a job that takes them out of the country (Military, oil rig, engineering).

I had my heart broken 3 times in 2020 by scammers. Its so hard to break off the communication but you have to just cry it out for as long as it takes then try to find someone else. Good luck.

I had a guy tell me he got mugged and everything was stolen. My reply was, “That’s too bad. And how do you expect to protect me as your woman if you can’t fend off a mugger?” He tried to convince me he could still protect me. Luckily I knew he was a scammer long before he asked for money; I just decided to continue playing along to waste his time. It’s not the first time I wasted a scammers time by pretending to not know they were scammers. It was definitely fun!

Watch out for these signs... If they agree to a video chat the quality will be very poor. If this is the case ask them to do hand gestures. Also if they call you, they will likely use a satellite phone and their numbers are not traceable. Their area code will likely match the area code you live in. When you call the number you will not be able to reach them

Sometimes they'll video chat with you but the only thing that you'll see will be a photo with them talking in the background so make sure that your video conversation lasts more than 10 minutes and that you see them moving and doing hand gestures and actually responding correctly to your questions because if you look on RU-vid there's videos on how you can make fake video conversations

He’s always from the military, widower, lives with his mom and cares for her and he is an only child. He always wants to use emails or Skype as soon as possible. And his computer never has microphone or camera. His messages don’t sound like they were written just to you. He keeps putting you on a pedestal all the time. He’s available to write in unexpected times of the day or night. It feels off from the beginning. When you catch him, or they go completely silence or they tell you off for wasting their time. He usually has just one picture on his profile. Unless you’re looking for someone in France, their introduction is in French or they write first message in French. Once they go on Skype with you he tends to erase his profile on the dating site.

I just want to make a comment. The thing I want to share is that they come in and fill a void in your life. They make you feel special, unique and cared about. The feelings you develop are real. The person they are impersonating don’t really know. The person you develop feelings for is unaware of the ongoing relationship/scam. I believe there’s a grieving process once this is over. The pain is real. Be kind . These people are good people.

Great video! Wow, all the comments, geez! Everything everyone says is right on point. I was scammed out of Google play card for $25. He said he was in the Army, wife passed, and son in U.S while he was deployed. After a while, things didn't make sense. He said he would video chat and didn't. Luckily, it was only for two weeks and $25. I finally used an app to locate his image and I found his pic on Russian dating site. So, I sent him a 'laters' message in Russian.

My mom got scammed after only being on Facebook for a short few months. She NEVER told me anything but that he's a traveling doctor and she didn't believe me that he's a scammer. Not until he asked for money, then she finally believed all of us who told her to stop talking to this guy. Then she refused to stop talking to another guy who asked for money but still believed he works for Johnny Depp! Claimed he was a friend until I finally got through to her and she's not using Facebook anymore. She believes every page she was joining was real and not fan made after actors and actresses. She was believing everyone she was talking to was a friend or knew the actors and actresses. I can't trust her to go back on Facebook to stick with people she knows and family members after all this.

I’ve had the guy who worked in the North Sea and immediately sent me love poems (which I called him on). I had a guy in person who was a scammer. Similarly though he owned his own company and he had an accident and lost his wallet, then his sister and niece were all killed in Australia. I knew it was all garbage but I kept him around because I couldn’t figure out why he was lying. Then it dawned on me that it didn’t matter why and I kicked him to the curb.

Whatever they started asking for money just back off and stay away from it! I usually report them depending on their country. Check their name and work addresses, phone numbers and so on. But I think most of the online dating things are kinda scary these days.

I was scammed by an "engineer" working on off shore oil rigs who wanted me to invest in his company. I have a construction background and it was very clear the scammer knew nothing about engineering. His written skills varied from day to day..turns out this particular scam is actually run by a group of men based in Africa so you are often communicating with several different people. The difference in writing style became more obvious over time. They became very nasty when I refused to send money. I requested contract details and business registrations...none of which they could supply of course...and couldn't even tell me which oil rig they were working on...these were all things easily searched on the Internet...make sure you do your homework ladies!

There was an engineer who gleefully told me I had brought him.luck as he had won a contract in Turkey. He even texted me a fake document and I knew what would come next as I noticed the words in the contract that said he had to pay value added tax. The next day, he told me he ran into trouble and asked me to be his trustee. Without waiting for his reply, I blocked him. He even tried to call me.

I'm from malaysia, and there are many scammers here. Scammers heaven. All their stories are, always similar. It's either they are divorced, widowed with teenage kids, their job requires traveling. I chat allot online a lot, I've had experienced too. He said he is coming to see me and when he arrived at the airport he, was held back by our local customs officers. That's when they ask for money. So what I did was, I called our local customs and checked if such incidence is really happening there. That said no and adviced me not to pay. Well thank God I escaped. Since than its like a hobby to me. I chat online learning to find out how identify a scammer. I'm pretty good at that too. Hahaha. Just like in the movie catch me if you can.

I have there a man I at online dating app asked for a number. I gave him thinking he's a serious person. He told me that he is a single father and showed me some photos of him and his son. I believed him at first. He told me that he wants to be his wife and the mother of his son. In pretentious I agreed. Afterwards he told me he had sent a parcel with a fake courier company and it's blocked with the immigration. He used contacts of fake people to act as immigration officer and they claim I have to pay money so I could get the parcel. I have a friend working at the immigration office told me that no parcel was sent to. I confronted the man later he blocked me. I have seen him using another fake user name. After 2 days I another man who I found in Facebook telling me that he loves me and has a daughter. He told me that he loves me for like 30 min after I accepted his friendly request. He is in another online dating app with another user name. I have not told him anything but I'm playing mind game with him so I teach him a lesson. Saga Mary they to learn a lesson

There are many types of scammers online. The percentage of any type of scammers is much higher than 1%. I would say about 50% are not authentic in some way or another.

I've noticed a pattern of them asking what I'm looking for jn a relationship/man. In one of their first messages. Seems to be a screenef to see how long they can message with you without meeting up. Be wary of any links you get sent. Especially if they are asking you to log in to something like FB etc.

I noticed in the past when I encountered a scammer their pictures on their profile were not consistent. You can something is fishy when the other pictures of the scammer’s profile are slightly different from the other ones. So watch out for that and it’s okay to ask the person to talk to them over the phone or do a FaceTime call with you. If they hesitant about it then they are most likely a scammer.

In my case he called me and when I told him he sounded African and I was vigilant if he was the owner of his pictures , he suggested to video call next day but I was so distrustful that I said no bc videocall can be fake too. He said he wabted to meet in person soon but atm busy. That's when I said no im not putting up with bs anymore. He said "I don't have bad intentions" Them he hung up and dissapeared plus unmatched me on the dating app. Very confusing..what if he was real but the love bombing on WhatsApp was to obvious. I wonder how they do suggest to videocall though if they are fake.

omg everything you have said is spot on in my situation. having the worst Christmas and new years in my whole life ever thanks to this scammer. she is exactly how you explain she claims to live in a city near me but is away on business trip and all the sudden she says she card isn't working cause of legal. she's looks to be this really pretty girl, says her parents died in an accident and get card isn't working and needs help and every time she seems to get the money I sent her and about to come something tragic happens that requires money again and again cause I wanted to believe. I feel so stupid and angry with myself. I am embarrassed to say I got scammed for near 7 thousand dollars in which at this point i feel like i deserved it for not seeing this scam coming. also ending up pulling a loan to try pay off the family members I owe of course they don't know the real reason. it is prob too late to investigate her at this point but I started asking her things like show me proof she actually is talking to her "close" relative other then me, even called her a scammer and she went berserk on me saying that I was mad and crazy and never in my life call her a scam again. ignores her and she starts acting cute with me again. which brought me to this video, I wished I had seen this video months back. she is actually still messaging me telling me to she needs my money. I'm done with his or her games or who ever behind that phone.

I was scammed and was naive and sent money. The man at first emailed me and sounded like a nice man. A week later he told me he was going to the US. 2 days later he said he was arrested for tax evasion and if I didn't send money he would go to jail l fell for it and sent money. Then he kept saying he needed more money . I sent until my bank stopped me .. So look out for TAX EVASION SCAMS. I reported it to the police but who knows. I was very naive. I got scammed in 2010 unfortunately, from an aupair site. I lost €600 to an alleged "travel agent" who was supposed to make the travel arrangements. He always said "Thank you for your Trust" (with a capital). I sent the money to England to a "lady" but I talked on the phone with someone in America, whose family I would be aupairing. I trusted these guys because a friend of mine found real work from that website; I should've realised that they can't control the users' profiles. I was pretty young and naive back then..!

Everything u said about scammers is right on! I've had this situation several times while dating. But please warn others about the scam posing as American soilders and wanting to come home and ask for funds to come home. UNCLE SAM WILL FLY OUR TROOPS HOME FOR FREE! When in doubt they can call their local recruiting office with any questions.

Since I was in the military , I knew better, told him to go to Command officer, or his officer in charge and they would get him the paperwork and way home. He didn’t like what I told him and he started cussing and calling me all kinds of names. My gut felt weird so I had feelings he was a scammer.

Thank you for this video, I had one scammer that wanted me to get him an I tune gift card and he told me it was his birthday he always had an excuse not to meet me but I knew he was a scammer right away but I played along for a day or two just to see what he really wanted. The day of his birthday he told me he wants to see the gift card and I told him no not until I get to meet him in person he got mad at me and didn't communicate with me anymore. I thought it was funny, then I went back on the dating site and he was back on there using another name and city where he lived but the same picture. I thought to myself how stupid to go back on there and use the same picture and use a different name.

I met my scammer on Instagram after he slid into my dm's. He was a 35 year old single father, who's wife cheated on him. He served in the "police corps" and works as a "special squad agent" in California but his job required him to travel a lot and that he had multiple houses in different states. At first, his grammar was good but then slowly, it started to become atrocious even though he said he had an college education and was born in the US. I began to have suspicions, especially after he didn't call me when i gave him my number(i only gave it to "him" just to see if he would take the bait) and his pictures seemed off to me, sending me the same photos that were on his profile. He also wanted to be in a commited relationship with me after talking to me for a day. The BIGGEST red flag was when he asked me to send him a $50 steam card. After i told him no numerous amount of times and told him that i thought he was catfishing me, he began to get angry, defensive and tried to guilt me because i "made him feel bad". I blocked him. I didn't fall for his game, i just wanted the amusement of watching the scammer basically expose themselves and play themselves. It was quite funny.
