I felt like my church was cultish when I felt led by God to go on a mission trip that my pastors discouraged me from going on, and when I went for that three months they shunned me when I got back. They told the church that I had "gone my own way" and they "felt peace to not associate" with me anymore. Following the Lord's voice is not the same thing as being rebellious against the leadership of the church.

Example: operating with a spirit of exclusivity or elitism. A polarized mentality of us vs them towards other ministries and denominations 7. 16:24 Emphasizing special revelations that contradict scripture vs loyalty to scripture.

Many people leave cults only to join new ones. The conditioning is difficult to break.

used to be in one of these cultish churches. I kinda saw it since day 2 of attending but I choose to stay in my own accord because some things were going on at home. After things got resolved, they contacted me. t'was hilarious! Played along like a crazy conspiracy theorist, they didn't want me anymore. I have yet to walk into another church session.

I know people that stay at these kind of churches and it’s mostly bc they don’t want to be held accountable to do the will of God they can just sit there and hear nothing that penetrates their souls. It’s sad, I don’t even go to a building and have enough sense to not be sitting underneath this type of unholy mess. Why go to hell sitting underneath leaders that’s not honest and doing the will of God. Matter a fact where is their fruit that they’re helping spiritually. Jesus!

You’re rebuking these “cultish” churches for rebuking other churches. We are to judge righteously-with right judgement. If we witness a church teaching falsely, things that are not written in the word of good, we should correct them as fellow believers. I see where you are coming from and your heart in this video. We long for all to be discerning and willing to share, speak and live by the Truth of God.

Apostolic churches are very cultic. I was in one then tried to get my friend out. I was accosted by the pastor and 5 guys and told to give up who I was and to get with the program or else they'd make my life miserable. I'd be more than happy to discuss this live.

Being in a church or belonging to a religion you're in a cult. Remember in your Bible God does not dwell in temples made by hand. God's promise is the Holy Spirit. Jesus died on the cross to give you the Holy Spirit. When you let the Bible have authority over you and lead you and guide you and follow its scriptures then you are in a cult. Sis, I too was delivered from a cult. Almost every item on your list is what I experienced. I was a baby christian at the time and was working so much at the church it almost destroyed my marriage. Abba Father began to speak to me about leaving. It took seven Prophetic Words from the Lord through true prophetic people, but I finally obeyed and left. I too was made to feel that I had done something wrong by leaving. So glad the Lord moved me because I have grown in my relationship with JESUS.

My born-again evangelical Christian husband was seized by Seventh-day adventism by his SDA older sister and her elder SDA boyfriend of 6 years on March 15, 2020 days before the Cov-d shutdowns. It has been ABSOLUTE HELL with Jezebel and Leviathan attacks coming extremely hard against my marriage. He is still listening to SDA...and I'm asking for prayer for him to finally come back to the rock of the REAL Jesus Christ. I've never prayed so hard in my life. This cult (SDA) is of the devil.

Watched a paster go from widow to widow and clean them out financially to build a new temple. this guy was so obvious about it. that it made me ill. Thank God I never went there. My daughter did and said all he preached about was getting everyone to give more money more money to the point that she will never go there ever again. Have heard the same from other folks also. He presides at a lot of funerals and I have made my wishes clear that he is not to speak at mine. Amazes me how he does this and so many ignore it and just keep giving and it seems to be in his pockets and not the churches. It is a bad place. Cultish most likely but also there is something evil there. He is two years educated at a seminary and that is all. He says the same thing at every sermon. Should be preaching the gospel but that is not mentioned ever. Sad for those who are taken in by him. Sad that they are being controlled and yes he was a big control freak.

I grew up in the church, had a scholarship to a private Christian school. I tested extremely high and they wanted me there to boost the school's academic reputation. Sunday school, VBS, youth group, bible study, Sunday and Wednesday chapel, all of it. I maintained a 4.0 or higher up until 8th grade, when I started to question the faith. The principle and teachers turned against me because I was respectfully, yet openly, voicing my curiosities. I received my first C in bible class.. not because I didn't know the answers, but because my faith wasn't what they believed it should be. They decided to destroy my academic career to punish me. The bad grades started appearing elsewhere, though they weren't at all deserved. This was part of their excuse to expell me. They then 'lost' a portion of my transcripts. I was on track to graduate HS a year early, but couldn't even graduate on time. And, no, I have never returned to any church, or the faith. The church is corrupt, and the religion is full of holes. I have nothing against those who practice their religion peacefully, but I find that so few actually do that nowadays.

They love bomb and shun. All The Time. As a primary mode of operation.

How about the historic definition of a Christian cult which is basically any group who has teachings that deviate from historic Christian orthodoxy. Major examples would include Jehovah's witnesses, LDS, oneness Pentecostals, and Roman Catholics among other groups.

I went today to an apostolic church and I found it quite bizarre. The people all went to the front to start yelling and speaking in tongues and they were kicking the air and jumping. All the females wear skirts and aren’t allowed to show arms or legs. And they are all expected to dress like that outside of service. I fear my cousin is in a cult and he can’t see it.

Bethel, IHOP, and possibly whatever church this gal is a part of. You just get that feeling...if you don't know what feeling im talking about, chances are you're in one of these kinds of churches. Hint: theyll say they love Jesus and the Word of God, but don't truly follow either. As they are "filled" with the Spirit, they seem to disregard all that the Spirit inspired writings of God.

Most churchs are not equipped for damaged people. My last church had 2 fornicator woman working for Jezebel. One was a newly divorced older gal shacked up with a newly divorced man from the music praise group. The other was a divorced pretty mom with 3 kids Shacked up with divorced man. the older gal tried suicide and asked her boy freind to inject poison into her. She died of cancer. The young mom quit church and kicked the guy out for a few more suckers to ruin them too. That church folded. I knew both these gals personaly and was pursued aggressively by both. It was the devils best trick. The pasture didn't have a clue and all he did was smile to get approval.

How about if they claim to be the one and ONLY way to heaven or salvation, forgiveness, or whatever you are seeking. They can also make you a custom package deal with enough tything. You can never buy your way into heaven.

I belong to a church whom I love very much but they didn't want to help me haven't secrets meetings about me concerning me they always preach that you can come to us but they never want to help me in what I was going through things with my mother inlaw she stayed with me in my husband in she would do anything she want it was almost to point of having a nervous breakdown but they had a meeting with my husband in mother inlaw it's a long story but I had to break free from that church i felt it as demonic in when I left they talk about me in my husband like a dog I love these people but hunni I had to go because GOD given me the word cult in this confirmation wow

That being said some churches, communities or organizations are more cultic than others. The more you try to enforce your holiness as law on others the more cultic it seems. Like forced wearing ties, forced shaving, kjv only, no television and forced compliance to church meetings on a nearly daily basis while you telling potential recruits you are a normal church that "loves the Lord." Also authority figures will use guilt trips and make money an issue if you talk about leaving.

What I think are signs of cultish beliefs: 1. Surround yourself with persons who only have your beliefs, inc. going to doctors, lawyers, etc. who think the same way 2. Put up with pastors who call mental illness a lack of faith; prayer/laying on of hands will lift your depression, and when it doesn't happen????? Would they call a person with a severed spine lacking in faith in that person doesn't start walking???? 3. Nepotisim in leadership, God doesn't have grandchildren, remember?? 4. Asking you to give a lot of money you can't afford, putting a church or televangelist before your own well-being. 5. If a pastor is living a much cushier lifestyle than you are. Why is he living in an exclusive neighborhood and I can just pay the bills??? 6. Being shamed when the pat answers they give doesn't satisfy your questions; don't be bullied into accepting ridiculous answers. 7. Confusing "persecution" with viable criticism of evangelical beliefs, other beliefs, or hurtful behavior calling it divisiveness, challenge anything and everything!! 8. Leaders that live one way on Sundays or days of worship and a totally different way the rest of the time. 9. Pontificating instead of listening to the experience of others because it makes you feel uncomfortable about your beliefs. 10. When your compared to what others can or can't do: I thought I was totally unique???????? 11. Thinking that only Christian have powerful anecdotes of ways God has revealed HIm-Her-Itself. They are in every faith!! 12. Being told to shut up and put up instead of valuing your own experience. If if hurts and isn't working as promised, SAY SO , then leave!!!! 13. Being taught that freewill means if you walk away you'll be punished forever in hell and "hell" is separation from God. (Not for everyone!!!) Sometimes the real hell is the belief system. It isn't eternal. It can be walked away from and it doesn't hurt at all!! I have several others, but that would take a book.

Everything that was listed, plus the fact that some churches are cliquish, as in the church members won't make you feel welcomed. I've been there, and therefor don't deal with church. Not that I have anything against those who do attend church. I just feel church just isn't for me. However, I carry God within my heart wherever I go. It says so in your Bible. You are the temple of God . God dwells in you. The mystery of God is calling you. If you go to church temples made by hand. Then you are in a cult
