My one hair mistake: leaving my protective style in too long. It was when I noticed my twists were thinning that I realized I had gone too long. God bless folks who can leave their styles in for several weeks. More than 2 weeks actually took me backward.
@zanichar

My biggest hair mistake was leaving my braids in too long. I left my braids in so long my hair matted, and locked up. Both my husband and brother had to help me detangle what had become a nightmare! I couldn't do it alone. It took us a few days and a lot of money was spent on products to help with the detangling process. Not only did I not retain any of the length I'd gained, but I lost a lot of hair in the process, with so much breakage it was sad. Lesson learned. It was a few years ago, and my hair has since recovered, but I learned you shouldn't neglect your hair just because it's tucked away in a protective style.

When I was in school I would wear braid extensions for 12 weeks. I really shouldn't have but my teenager scalp could take it. I would spray every day with braid spray and shampoo every month and oil my scalp. I always took it down with oil and a fine-toothed comb, Spent all saturday doing it. Lol! I was lucky to have not suffered damage back then. Once I turned 30 my scalp became sensitized, so I don't wear braids anymore.

Oh goodness, my worst hair mistake was wearing tight hairstyles and not saying anything to the beautician because it looked so pretty. Also, not doing washes like I should and not drinking enough water. I'm trying to do a lot better now. I appreciate these videos. They help me a lot and I'm on my journey trying to correct my mistakes.

The biggest mistakes I've made with my hair have always been moisturizing and keeping my ends trimmed. Now, after 10 + years of being natural lol, I've seen much improvement with my hair overall. I wear color on my hair now, so I'm having to do more with keeping up with it, but it isn't stressful. My current routine is moisturizing my scalp and hair every four days ( I do have periods where I'm just lazy lol). I spray my scalp with water and oil it. Then, I use water mixed with leave in conditioner on my hair and use a butter or moisturizer and oil to seal it all in.

My goal is every 10 to 12 weeks. 10th week to assess ends and go for a trim if necessary, or wait 2 more weeks and then trim. I then I held back my retention in the past but no more!🥰

Yes, took me almost 2.5 years to get a professional trim & can diffently feel the difference. I am at the 2 month mark....by month 3 or 4 will do again. My fairy knots are very, very few & that is 👍. The revair has also helped with my end as well as keeping them moisturized. I didn't realize I needed a professional trim until I got one...now I know & feel the difference between me dusting & professional trim.

My mistake was using a shampoo brush to comb through my leave in conditioner even after my mom told me I was losing my edges. I thought it nonsense until I saw a picture of myself. Oooo yes i have a couple hair mistakes! 1. Going overboard with protein treatments (hiPo, less is still more haha). And i mean, WAY overboard. Leaving rice water masks in for hours overboard. Never again! 2. Onion pulp. Here i was being stubborn xD Tonya said, wisely, to STRAIN the pulp and use the liquid. Did i listen? No 😂 Result: Onion smell that lingered for weeks (uhuh), as well as much stiffness and rigid hair, similar to too much protein in the hair. However, it finally all came out when i tried steaming my hair. 3. Not protecting my hair against humidity. This is a rather recent, but very big one. Humidity is no joke. It causes SO much tangling and thus breakage, not to mention ruins my definition 🥲 and hard styling work! Glycerin is a culprit best avoided, so it seems. My lessons? Always listen to Tonya! 😍🙏💖 Hihihii. Seriously. Go easy on protein And if you also have ridiculous tangling and frizz, see if humidity solutions could work for you too. Gosh, I've written an essay 😹 Thank you as always dearest Tonya! 💖

steam and steam. basically apply a spray leave in detangler and a cream leave-in conditioner daily...not a large amount. For the cream leave in no more than a UK50p/USA25c coin size and then wrap you hair in a plastic cap and a hot towel for 20 minutes every day. Experiment to see if you need more or less but appply it every day especially to the ends. shampoo and deep condtion every week with the same plastic cap. Keep your hair in a short term protective style, 5 days out of 7. By short term protective, I mean something that you take down every day or every week. I wear twists, flat twists or 2 or 3 dutch braids and wrap my hair for work. My workplace allows it and the heating and air conditioning dries out my skin, scalp and hair at work. I keep my hair protected from the weather sun, rain or wind. I have winter and summer head scarves and hats. I only wear my hair down for a few hours of going out to an event or church. the rest of the time it's most ly covered to protect it. I have very dry hair and the grey strand are definitely unruly. A scarf makes them lay down too. Lol!

My mistake was going to the Dominican hair shops to get my hair blown out & flat ironed. They at times use excessive heat. Over time, this is what caused my heat damage & why my regular hair stylist big chopped my hair back in 2018. It was a very non expected service when I sat in her chair. Hi Tonya, my biggest hair mistake was thinking that all oils work the same. I'm a type 4, medium density, low porosity girl, and the oil step on wash days was always challenging. Well, until I found you. Which now brings me to wonder if our infused herbal oil or Ayurvedic oils should be the 1st P, last P, or both in the P.M.P method? My number one mistake in the past: Thinking my hair was low porosity but putting all sorts of products on it without not understanding the importance of clarifying. Low porosity hair doesn’t like to be heavily coated, so it doesn’t makes sense to ‘moisturise’ several days a week without proper washing. Products high in humectants have helped me a lot. 🥰

@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 Год назад
Get you about 20 crocodile or sectioning 3/4 inch long clips and some seamless combs and a tangle teezer and a detangling butter. Some people use non-tangle bands but I find the clips easier. You have to divide and conquer if you have long and/or high density hair. I have short high-density hair and I have to divide my hair in 20 sections .... otherwise I miss out a spot and it becomes an even bigger Knot! Watching women detangle in the shower with a wide tooth comb in zero sections gives me anxiety because I know my hair could never. My hair is weakest when wet. I detangle on DAMP (not wet or dry) hair with a comb/brush/product made for detangling. If it doesn't say detangling on the product/tool, I'm not going to use it to detangle my hair. For example, the Denman brush D9 is a styling brush, not a detangling brush.

Letting a salon color my hair without doing a patch test. I end up having a allergic reaction and lost a lot of my hair. Which started my natural hair Journey.

Mistakes in the beginning that I currently do not do anymore on my low porosity 3/b-3/c curls: Using shea butters and coconut butter styling products (weighed my hair down and felt greasy to the touch) Cold shower wash to “seal” moisture in Not trimming frequently No Poo method (lasted 3mnths because my scalp burned and was extremely irritated plus smelly😢) Using just Styler products with NO Leave in conditioner to moisturize (dried my curls by day 2) Washing once a week only. My hair needs at least two wash days a week for my fine curls Not using a bonnet or satin pillow (my hair had breakage and tangled easily quite often) Pulling out dried ends manually which probably did more damage than good. And the last but MOST IMPORTANT ONE, overlookjng your health/diet. This is a must. Especially your water intake.

My biggest hair mistake was bleaching my hair. I didn’t use a daily moisturizer, hair routine like protein treatments, scalp detox or the right oils. I would always do wash-n-go styles leaving my hair wet 24/7...... Let's say this led to a big chop. My hair started to get thin, the curl pattern became straight, and it just broke off.

It would be better if you shampooed, deep conditioned and detangled every week. I detangle my hair DAMP ( not dry or wet) with seamless combs and the tangler teezer for wet fine and fragile hair. I use 20 sectioning clips, snacks, drinks and streaming. Lol!

I wanted to straighten my hair, so I got this straightening process that lasted for 13 weeks. It was great in the beginning until the 13 weeks were over, and my curl pattern was not as tight as it was before receiving the straightening process. I am cutting my hair as it grows out. My ends were so thin and loose. I tried everything I could think of to make my curls bounce back. I have 4 more inches of hair to cut off. I will never straighten my hair like that again. When I decide to straighten my hair again, I will do it when I get a trim.

My hair mistake was wearing tight styles wayy to often. Don’t get me wrong every once in a while when you want to look cute I will do a slicked back bun, however, when I used to do them too often, I started to get breakage in the back of my head and in the front of my edges. Now I do twist outs and let my hair out, and that is the easiest way for me to avoid breakage and damage because there is nothing tight pulling on my hair. Now I’m kind of paranoid when I do tight styles because I think my hair is gonna break off.

My mistake is the same as yours. I had been curly for 5yrs and my tresses were tailbone booty crack thick. I had been sick for 3 yrs and was about to have surgery. I didn't know m6 hair was weak and i had to cut my hair to shoulder length. Then... i wound up have 3 surgeries 1 in 2k18 one in 2k19 and my hair started coming out by just touching it or putting water on it. Dr said the stress and pain on my body is why. But it always shows up 3-6m later and can last a yr. So now my hair is thinned out and my curls looked horrible so i wore wet twists for a yr refreshing weekly bcus i have fine strands and i didnt want dreds. I had to have another surgery on my spine in 2k20 6mos after my last one so the stress on my hair has lasted yrs. Its long but not thick and i started a protien regime and upping my healthy diet and getting serious about my vits. This has helped some and its gettong better. I just need a jump start a boost or something. Im walking now but still in a lot of pain so i can't exercise yet but i challenged myself to participate in a 6wk walk for arthritis in a few weeks. I just need to know my porosity. I have sever different porosity and textures so that water test is never accurate. HELP?

One day I decided to returned back to sulphate shampoo and my hair did a little dance of joy. Looked so much better and no more itchy or bumpy scalp. I think sulfate free are for those who are sensitive to it and need a different surfactant in their shampoos.

All i did before was go to the beach, and after that, it all went downhill. 😢Years of being consistent ans seeing the most growth i have ever seen went away in a couple months
