One thing I quit doing in my late 40's is offering people unsolicited advice. After a few years of no longer giving advice, family and friends who never wanted to hear it before started coming to me and asking for it.

Some of the best advice I got when I was in my 20's was "Don't want something that doesn't want you." Spend your energy on people that do want to be with you whether it's friends, acquaintances, family or loved ones.

I’m creeping toward 62 and my last third of my life is hopefully my best years on earth. My exercise routine is spot-on. My sleep habits are getting better since retirement, my diet is slowly improving, and I’m applying sun block whenever I work or play in the yard ( I fought that one until just recently). My advice for the ‘younger” gents is to stash that money away early and reap the benefits later. Yes, money is important but time is more valuable because we are all on the clock and you never know how long we actually have. Make the best of it and spread the love.

Thanks John, glad to hear you let all that negative energy go. Recently received EMDR Therapy to help with the trauma of a motorcycle accident last year. My first helicopter ride to a trama center! Tossed myself into the woods in the Catskills. You think the road crews would have cleaned up the road salt from the winter! Worked like a charm, then went to work on the ex and my son who passed. Highly recommend. Maybe more talks about how you cleared your head. it's part of the overall process of healthy living and maturity.

I needed this video worse than I could've ever admitted to myself before I clicked on it.... just turned 40 a couple weeks ago and am likely about to go through divorce, but it's a new chapter.... I just started a new job a week ago, and it's going good nowhere but up from here.... I've been neglecting responsibilities and myself for a long time now, and I'm past the stage of denial and ready for the next day 1 at a time....

I got divorced when I was 53. It wasn’t my idea but I realized in hindsight that it was needed - neither of were happy. It opened up an entire new life for me. After selling the house that I loved, I used some of the money and did some online schooling for a complete career change. I landed a job in my new career in a city that I had never lived in. Everything has gone so much better than I could possibly have hoped and my life is great. Best of luck to you.

As a 58 year old I can heartily endorse the message of this video. You are an adult man, and that is your greatest asset, so use it. I am divorced, have had a life-long love of sport participation and at 6ft2in and 196lbs I'm in reasonable, if not stella, shape. I garner far more interest from women now than I ever did in my 20s and 30s. It's night and day different, and from many women who are substantiallyl younger than I am. I've learned to relax and not be a "try hard", as well as playing to my strengths... that I know shit (and I don't need to brag about that, it just comes through in the choices and judgements I make).
@MT-yx5cu
@MT-yx5cu Месяц назад
Just understand there is a reason these younger women are attracted to you. Don't confuse it with "genuine" interest or you may get your heart broken.

There are studies of happiness that show that experiences produce more long-term happiness than "stuff" does. More specifically, the memories of the experiences improve over time (even over subsequent years, for major experiences), while the less pleasant aspects of the experiences (like waiting at the airport) fades from memory. On the other hand, the the happiness from stuff peaks at the time of the purchase, then decreases over time. This is the complete opposite of what some people expect. They expect the happiness from an experience to end when the experience does, and they expect the happiness from "stuff" to last as long as the items do.

Excellent video John! I stopped drinking a while ago. Where I live in Florida happy hour begins at 2! It was taking me down. I feel 100% better. More energy, clarity, just happier. Highly recommend it. Not to mention the money I save. I'm guessing $500 a month. $12-15 weak drinks don't go far. Learned along time ago to let go of resentment. Extremely unhealthy to store it inside. Especially if it's an ex.

Five days before I hit 50 I had a massive heart attack. I was running 6 miles a day, lifting weights but it still happened. For a 6’4 tall dude I weighed 195 pounds. I didn’t eat a lot of fast food. It was a hereditary disease most in my family have. I wasn’t expected to survive. So when I left the hospital I changed the way my life was going. I stopped listening to people’s illogical irrational nonsense and my wife was on the top of that list. I began doing things for myself and indulging in the hobbies of my youth which I put aside hoping I’d have time in the future to enjoy. I don’t try to be young, especially as a school teacher. People in their 20s are like kids to me.

I've learned as I now have reached the half century mark that you are the only one that can make yourself happy. Don't rely on others to make you happy. Choose to be happy. Remove toxic people from your life. Be responsible but don't wait to do or accomplish that thing you want. Also, I care less what people think of me especially strangers so I am bothered by fewer things. I've found that I am much happier now than I have ever been.

Help somebody up the ladder. Yes I try and do that. Great point! In my role as business development, I see younger men struggling with how to approach a potential client. I really did not have a go to person myself but I hate to see folks on my team struggle so there is no need for them to endure the same bumps and bruises and wasted time as I went thru. It gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment when I see my younger colleagues succeed, advance & do well on our team. And if you work for a public company and you own stock, you like to see that share price increase. That’s what helping your team can do.

The "you're only half way there" thing was great to hear as I have largely had negative thoughts about where I am in life and feeling like that's me more or less done. The only thing I might say is that these days people are starting families later in life. I am 42 and my wife and I didn't have our first child until we were 30. Our youngest is 8 so I'll be at least 50 before they'll be self-sufficient. However I think I am OK with that.

I used to be the curator of a sad menagerie of hurtful memories. They stretched all the way back to my childhood. I finally stopped when I realized that by keeping those memories relevant, I was unwittingly partnering up with those people that caused me pain. Also I came to understand that those people were likely operating from a wounded heart themselves. As the poet of Galilee said, "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." :-)

I want to tell a story I think is kind of inspirational for men. It totally changed my outlook. My dad was a player when he was younger and so was his brother. They both turned 20 years old around 1960. My dad was a bartender in Cincinnati around 1967 or 68. He once told me he's lost count of how many women he'd had at around 250. It was another time...lol! My dad however settled down soon after and raised a family. His brother, my Uncle Jim, however was a "player" his whole life! I was chatting with him over a beer a couple years ago when he was 86 years old and asked him "So at what age were you getting the most action?" With beer in hand he looked up and thought about it, then his answer shocked me. I thought he'd say 25, or who knows maybe even 40. He says "Oh I'd say around 70." wtf?! Thats how they thought back then, they never said "oh i'm old, game over" . So yea, with the right frame of mind, your best years may still be ahead...WAY ahead !

This video triggered many thoughts for me. Good topics as always. But John.... Age is just a number right. (Shrugs shoulders). Regarding skin care..... Go see a dermatologist periodically, please. Particularly if you are a fair-skinned person, had one or more sunburns as a kid, or are one of those with moles. In my mid 40's I had skin cancer removed, and just went through it again at 57. I go every 6 months now. Getting checked by a professional is key. Neither of the spots was one that I thought was an issue. Pathology said otherwise. I've been a TH member now for a couple of years. Sunscreen is key! Wealth - "If you want to be wealthy, start a wealth plan." (Jim Rohn) "You don't own things. Things own you." - This is SO true. The more I owned, the more money I spent maintaining it. A divorce took care of much of the possessions, but I'm still downsizing. Live Life - if you are on the "societal treadmill" regarding life, get off. I think even the saying, "Life is a journey, not a destination" is wrong. Life is a series of experiences that one has along the way - people you meet, places you go, things you do. Do them when can and when you are young. When you get older you may no longer be able to do the things you dreamed of. I spent way too many hours in the office and passed on experiences. Can't get that time back now. While I provided for my family very well, they grew up and have moved on. #Legend

The days when I could party all night and work all day are long over - the hangovers I would have after more than a couple of drinks would be monumental. So I restrict myself to a glass or two of wine - and funnily enough I don't miss getting drunk. I would however give my left wossname to be able to sleep the same way I did when I was 21. :)

Thanks & good job. I hear hanging out with young people will help you feel younger. I agree that being/acting recklessly/immaturely is inappropriate, but I consider it unhealthy. Maybe we should stop shaming people for acting like idiots (immature) and start inspiring people with healthy (self love) behavior.

At 62, I can say the best thing I did (starting at 32) seriously plan for retirement. I was partly lucky, partly a product of good planning - retiring at 58. Pet peeve w/men over 40? Quit wearing your ballcap backwards and the “team jersey” look needs to be retired. However, these peeves are small potatoes compared to your excellent advice to live life better.

Ok so I live in the UK, and I was in a bon Jovi tribute band. We were doing amazing, and we had lots of gigs lined up, one day I woke up and realised I hated this music and I couldn't bring myself to sing it anymore, I was like, what the hells wrong with me ? I do love music, but it's changed along with my style and choices .I'm 43 on the 16 and I'm not bad looking for my age, but it definitely felt strange not liking things I once did, I've suddenly got into writting, and poetry, literature philosophy. 😊. What an odd few months 😳

Really liked the video! I found out basically how to dress correctly and feel comfortable with what I had on through watching your videos. I always made sure my children had the best and never paid to much mind to fashion but now they are grown and I've made a more conscious effort to be better dressed. Now i have people complementing me on what I wear and ask for advice so i just direct them to your channel. I have also learned myself over the years that it is unhealthy to hold on to negative feelings towards others. It brings you down and affects your mood and can just make you bitter. Thank Jesus I've learned to let it go and changed my way of thinking and living. Thank you for the video

@@Bloomcycle I can't, and that's my point. You took the media, government and vax companies at their word without question or a demand that they provide data and reasoned-based arguments that all the infringements on our liberty were necessary. In fact there were studies showing that mask did more harm than good. Such outbreaks have happened before but there weren't shutdowns and quarantines. The population acquired immunity and we got past it. If your freedom can be taken at the whim of government then you never really were free were you? But maybe freedom doesn't matter to you. Maybe you prefer the comfort of empty promises.

I have been following you for over 4 years now and this video changed my outlook on life, completely. Yes, I need to forget things now. Friends or whoever did wrong, cheated you, or whatever... they will always behave that they did not do anything or will show as if they don't know what they did. it is better to forget and forgive too. Our anger only affects us and nobody else. Thank you so much for making me understand this simple thing. And, I really need to live like a 42-year-old now haha.

Some good, solid advice there, especially what you said about resentment. Just read Corinthians 13, what it says about Love. "Love keeps no record of being wronged".........I work in a hospital and I tell you it is full of people who have collected offences over the course of their lives and now the effect of this baggage has literally made them sick. Its shocking to see but also terrifying. Hold on to nothing, let it all go because if you dont I promise it'll take your health and joy from you and in the end it will take your life.

Looking good young man! It takes a lot of effort to reprogram yourself when you've got 4 decades of duty facing approach and pushing hard. How can you focus on a passion that may well have already extinguished? It takes a ton of exploration and discipline. Looking at 60 and nowhere near equipped with the right reflexes.

John’s assumption that I have dedicated much of my life to raising a family is quite funny. Erm….no. I'm 53, and am no closer to being a dad now than I was when I was in my 20s. I've travelled the world, lived in six countries, owned some amazing cars, had adventures that most people can only dream of, and now live a few minutes from the beach in sunny Western Australia. I get up when I want, see who I want to see, do what I want to do, and go out for drinks or dinner whenever I damn well please. None of that would have been possible with kids to look after. Some people might say I'm selfish. I prefer to call myself free. So many countries to see, so little time.
