Actually, Gordon Murray, the main designer of the McLaren F1, took inspiration in designing the doors based on the Toyota Sera.

I got to drive a Z1 when I worked at a BMW dealership when they did a launch event for the then new Z4. We did a Z cars line up in the showroom, with Z1, Z3, old Z4, new Z4 and a left hand drive Z8. Loved that one too!

When you opened all four doors on the Lincoln Continental convertible sedan, the frame had a tendency to bend or tilt and required heavy duty struts on the engine compartment due to the weight!

My friend has a Mazda rx8. I rode in it plenty of times and getting into the rear seats is quite easy. They're quite roomy too :)

Toyota FJ Cruiser also has same door configuration as the RX8. I think you left out the Mini Cooper clubman also as a weird configuration. Suicide door on one side and barn style rear doors.

Just a little note: You mentioned the Saturn ION when talking about the RX-8, but didn't acknowledge the ION Quad Coupe's predecessor, the Saturn SC (literally the S-Series Coupe). Part way through the second generation model life in 1999, Saturn added a third suicide door on the driver's side, which carried on all the way through the third generation model until the SC's discontinuation after the 2002 model year, when the ION Quad Coupe replaced it, which added that second suicide door on the opposite side.

The idea of a 4-door configuration with short and hidden rear doors that can open backwards seemed to start out in 1970 with a wedge shaped concept car from Vauxhall named the SRV. Later on, there were a few other concept cars like the Porsche 928 H50 and the Subaru B11S that had the same feature as well. Besides the feature being on a few production cars like the RX-8, Saturn Ion, Toyota FJ Cruiser, and the BMW i3; it was also fairly common on extended cab pickup trucks.

My Panhard Dyna Z from 1954 has suicide doors in front and normal doors in the back and is totally made out of Aluminium. After a few years, with the next model (PL 17) but same doors they changed the direction of the front doors ("normal opening) without changing the form of the body!

The Bond Bug is unique (probably) in that it has two fabric doors but they do not open normally, the whole windscreen and roof flips up to let you out. Really low tech twist on the high tec flip door.

The rx-8s doors aren't Mazdas idea. A ton of crew cab pickups have them. Also suicide doors were on tons of 30s luxury cars.

@Chicken Nugget 8785 No, they're not. The niro is either a hybrid or an ev, the Kona is either a gas car or a full electric one (Kona EV), and the EQC and E-tron are all electric with platforms designed for electric powertrains.

Try to find Skoda 110 Super Sport. Its from CzechoSlovakia (nowdays 2 separated states) and it was prototype which never was made (just 1 example). Its called Skoda Ferat too. Or MTX Tatra V8, another super sport fron CzechoSlovakia.
