How long before you need to replace the batteries and how much for each battery?
@TheKraemerLife

Yep, this is one of things that may be a big problem with a battery powered electric mower (or anything electric and battery I suppose) - how long will the batteries really last and how much to replace them (and, what happens if the electric motors stop working after the 4 year warrant-y). I just did a price search at greenworks and it looks like a single 60v 8amphour battery is $350 (yikes!). As noted in the video, it's my general impression the batteries last about 80% as long as they used to -- but that's just a gut feel , could be more could be less. So, I guess we will see the answer to this question at some point in the future. Thanks for the question - I should have added this topic into the video.

A full set new would be around $3,000 new from Greenworks. They're not cheap, but if you add up the amount of money you spend on gas in the 5-10 years they last it's still saving money. The key is proper battery care, keep the batteries stored inside and only charge them when they're cool. Also don't try to use the batteries right after you charge them, let them cool. Electric motors are very simple with very few moving parts, they outlast gas motors several times over as long as you keep it clean.

@@TheKraemerLife All greenworks batteries and equipment come with a 4 year warrenty, so my suggestion is to run them into the ground and call for a replacement before the 4th year is up from the original date of purchase, then you will have a new set of batteries for another set number of years I assume under a new warranty. But also its the tradeoff with not using gasoline which is only 5-10 dollars for 1-2 gallons at a time, but that really adds up far beyond compared to batteries (in the end using the battery system is much cheaper in the end because of lack of maintenance on much of anything with these mowers.

I've been using GW battery tools exclusively since 2014. I was cycling two 2.5ah 80v batteries between push mower, blower, edger, etc., and it took about 5-6 years to kill those batteries to the point where the runtime was worth replacing them. It was easily in the 500+ cycle range between all the tools (I use the blower every day). Doing some quick math, if you had an acre (most people have less mowable than this), and you cut 35 times a year (also on the high side), you'd have ~18-20 full battery cycles a year. Most lithium ion batteries last 500 full cycles to 60-80%. You'll have degradation, but honestly I'd expect the batteries they include to last the life of the mower.

@@Finger112warranty on replacement batteries ends with the original battery. This is standard warranty practice.

That mower was more impressive than I thought. That thing actually moves and cuts great.

By the way, this is not a sponsored promotion or advertisement of this zero turn mower - just my honest review of the mower after 2 years and 700 hours of use.

Wow, this is exactly the video and information I was looking for! We have 4 acres in NM, not all is mowed but its a bit bumpy and wild with lots of things to mow around that a regular lawn tractor can't do. Your video shows that this thing has the power and will do exactly what I'm looking for. Every other video just showed flat lawns and I love the 700 hours and 60 acres mowed that most don't show along with what a beast this machine is. Awesome video, thanks so much !!!!

I enjoyed this review.I didn't think when you first got it,it would be enough for the farm, but it is🙂Glad it has been such a workhorse for you two. Like another viewer,I would like to know about the life of the batteries. How long or how many hours,or how many charges they say they will last. I actually got a small battery push mower. The gas machine was just getting to heavy and hard to push. Turned 70 this year am five feet tall,LOL It has been such a great purchase.Light, easy to use,no gas, oil.Starts first try,no pulling. If it is easy to use, dependable and not a lot of maintenance,,what is to complain about about???:-) Off to finish the back yard, haha God Bless

I remember how many naysayers told you that you were wasting your money and that you should get a tractor, despite your comments about current budget etc. As usual, your dedicated research has proved you made the right decision. I would love to own one.

The strip mining to create those batteries is way worse than the drilling for oil. Especially in a already struggling power grid in america

@@dewaynechauncey2875charge it on solar. I didn't go electric for the environment. I did it for the ease of use and the lack of reliance on oil. Not everyone buying electric are tree hugging hippies

Nate could more aggressive tires be added to the rear to gain traction? Thanks for the update I've been curious about how it has held up.

Could you put a paver or two in the back bucket to improve traction? Great video. We just inherited a greenworks pole saw and a greenworks weedwhacker. They are wonderful.

I’d wager the 4 second start/restart delay is a deliberate safety feature. If the operator is not settled in then the mower should not go. Not going to restart an ICE faster.

Have you changed out the gearbox oil on the mower yet? In the manual, you need to change the gearbox oil after 50 hours of first use, then your good for another 200 hours of use. If not you should replace that ASAP!

the 700 isn't all mowing - mostly just moving us around the property. We will see how this thing is holding up after 700 hours of actual mowing.

Does the gearbox require oil maintenance? I have seen after the first 50hours and again every 200. A few other owners have mentioned it and shown removing the rear tire to get better access. Was looking at the 42inch initially, but with the release of the 54 and now 60 inch with the dump bed we are waiting to see if we can make it happen.

Yes. replace the oil in the gearbox after first 50 hours and every 200 after. I Learned something new today - Darn, I needed to know this and should have put it in the video. Thank you for asking this question!

WHAT? Greenworks has one that bags grass! Look it up they do have one available as an attachment, it's not cheap though. Costco has one with the 80 volt CRZ428 and this should be compatible with the 60 volt.

lol electric lawn mowers are not quiet, there almost just as loud. I see that comparison alot. Gas is 95 db and electric is 75 db. A little quieter? sure

My Snapper Ninja gas mower required hearing protection. My EGo 21” was comfortable without. 95 dBA vs 75 dBA is a significant difference. 96 dBA is the AMA limit for off road racing dirtbikes.
