This was the very first trip in the salt this year. Second drift of the morning... First bass of the season! On this trip, we were doing some scouting for some upcoming charters and found what we were looking for! This monster striped bass ended up weighing over 74 pounds!

Amazing fish and arguably a man of the highest integrity. I attended his striper seminar years ago and he really teaches from a fact based curriculum. No doubt that this fish is every bit of what he says it is. Blaine got me hooked on Ct River striper fishing. Way to go Blaine.

there is no way to catch a fish that size and not get criticized, doubted, accused of the way you handled it, etc----but i think you did everything beautifully given the fact that the fish is the bass of a lifetime. keeping her swimming while you got your game together was very thoughtful---ignore the haters and critics, and congratulations on catching the bass we all dream of! your videos always entertain and you are a proven professional, naturalist, and one hell of a fisherman. kudos---capt. mickey---belmar, nj

Great fish. My dad and I fished on that very boat with Blaine a few years back and my dad and I both fought our biggest bass thanks to him

God that is just insane. I've never seen a striper even approach that size in person or on video. Puts the record fish in perspective. The Jersey coast will own the record once again someday. I will see to this personally.

Yes, it was in Niantic Bay... Quite the surprise for so early in the season. The rod was a Daiwa Saltiga SAG-J60MHF and the reel was a Daiwa Saltist 2 speed lever drag - STTLD20-2SPD

Great fishing Lads, I have fished for over 40 years here in England for Bass, a fish of over 10lbs is regarded as a big fish here once in a lifetime catch. glad to see you returned the fish to fight another day....Mike.

that is no monster striper... it is certainly respectable but these fish get bigger than this one for sure I worked on an open/ charter boat our of fortesque New Jersey when I get my own captains license ill be the 5th generation of my fathers family to do so my grand father, his father and his father before him all had party boats my grandfather had the 75 ft lone star n[ow out off the coast of south jersey shore with a giant t.v. screen on the back advertising local businesses ] either way a BIG striper is *5 inches long and nearly 100 lbs

You can't use the IGFA formula measuring a fish like that. You have to measure from the caudal peduncle, which is the meaty part inside the fork of the tail. The real measurement on this fish is probably 47-48 inches. That calculates to 47 pounds. That's about right or maybe a few pounds more, but it's not a fat or even average girth for it's length.

Dan, this guy puts up big fish and is credible. I have never had a conversation with him, but I have past by him before out on the waters of LI Sound and seen him working his tricks. If you put your time in and are from CT, you know Stripers like this, while definitely rare, are definitely there, and are the reason why sport-fishing is so great.

Once in 95 I saw a huge stripe caught in the east river thing had to be over 100 pounds but the guy who caught it didn't speak English or care for records so it went unnoticed. THIS FISH WAS HUGE
@imalicenseplatepressingdud6780
We caught one one time 100 lb in the pound Nets back in 89 it was over 6 ft long the fish was so old at the stripes had faded off of look like a giant white fish yes we let it go

so glad to see that you let her live on.. big striped bass are very important to keep alive as breeders.. I only took 4 fish for the table this season and I'll only keep gut hooked or on the way out fish between 30 and 36 inches.. I'd rather they live and I eat burgers and BBQ ribs!! :)
@Fishingct
@Fishingct 10 лет назад
I agree, I try to do everything I can to release them. I keep my share for the table and the smoker but the vast majority go back. and i encourage my clients to do the same. In all honesty, this fish didn't make it. I spent almost 20 minutes trying to revive her...In the end, I didn't lose any sleep over it as I felt we did just about everything we could. I have caught a ton of crap from people criticizing me for not getting an official weight, I didn't want a bunch of pictures floating around of yet another dead breeder hanging on scale so that I could stroke my ego... It seems people care about the size of the fish more than I do, to them I say, get off your asses and catch one yourself, then you can talk smack. The fish was eaten and to honor her, I have an amazing replica mount of her on my living room wall. Thanks for watching!
@bignoah808
@bignoah808 10 лет назад
I bet it was yummy!! I love eating some of my catches... I admit I only kept 5 last season and 3 of them were because of a bad gut hooking or gill blood.. I'll tell ya, the stripers I've caught and kept up in northern New England taste way better than the ones from down here.

@joecollins8520

+Blaine Anderson How much does it affect fish taken out of the water totally stressed from fighting and then someone has the fish out of the water for even a minute. I mean if you ran a mile and then someone put you in choke hold. You would be out in seconds or if someone held you under the water. So does it have the same affect on them? I've caught tons of big ones in nets, but they were fighting on a line for 10 minutes. The net snagged them and sometimes pulled right into the boat and they might flop around for a minute or two and that's about it. So some people will take the fish out of the water for a couple minutes not thinking the fish needs oxygen and not the way we get it..

I caught a 76 lbs striper in the Sacramento delta it was 53 inches, it took almost one hour to land (bank fishing). I think California state record for striper is 103 lbs. Nice catch and good video.

No it's not even close to 103. the calif record is 67 lbs from San Luis reservoir. I used to fish there years ago when it was good in the 1980s and 90s. The delta was a great spot I don't live the any more so haven't kept up on the fishing in the last 25 years

Thanks for watching... It was definitely the coolest moment of my life. We see 50" bass a few times every season, this one dwarfed any other I've caught or seen. I can assure you the fish was measured at 57.5". RU-vid won't allow me to post a link to pics in a reply but if you go to my web site "fishingct", go to the gallery for Long Island Sound, then to 2012 and go to page 10, there are several photos of the fish...

It's all about the structure and current here... We have lots of boulder strewn reefs and some serious rips. Between bunker, hickory shad and scup, there is plenty of forage.

If that fish hit 55lbs be happy ☺. And definitely not 57 inches, don't put it by the measuring tape if you're going to exaggerate like that. on the tape you can see 47 and 48 inch mark and there is no way that fish has 10 extra inches.

Fish like this are why so many boats cover the water during migration time. Striped bass make us fishermen crazy; calling out of work to fish, ending relationships for time on the water, etc. Am I Jealous..a little..a hater..definitely not. I'd rather put my time in, and believe one day will be my day or maybe one of my buddies. Then people can hate on me and I will love every minute of it.....Congratulations on the catch Blaine!!!! ive fished with blaine and trust me he knows his fish there is no doubt in my mind that that fish was 74 pounds, also for anyone saying they didnt get a weight it bottomed out a 60lb boga grip. and for everyone saying the fish was out the water to long he puts his fish on a grip in the water for them to revive before he brings hs fish out to fully weigh and mesure so he makes sure all fish swim away safely

Proccess for many of us I guess.. Suprised it died... usual in cold water you can head dump them back in and they swinm off fine. But I have never had a fish over fifty fight at all, they usual come right to surface from what I have scene over years. Great Video!
