By far one of the best toad videos of a set up on RU-vid. Please update. Beautiful native terrarium.

For some reason I really like those solar lights in this set up. Reminds me of like a backyard habitat (which is where you’re going to see both of these species)

Hello everyone who commented on this, I wanted to let you all know for the first time in five years, the next Pennsylvania Woodland Vivarium has finally been completed! This project features American toads, wood frogs, and black field ants, along with native plants! I wanted to invite you to check out the video in the link which is the story of the animal the enclosure was built for. Ace the female American toad was the biggest star on the channel before she had to disappear from the public eye to treat parasites and to change my system for keeping anurans. Now that I have figured out my system and her parasites can be managed, check out her story as the inspiration for the next generation of this story. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JCBd2l7WqAg.htmlsi=iL1s85FUXt4x_VUK

Damon Languth I am actually working on this tank now. I am keeping a pair of Toads sexed with a pair of Skinks also sexed in this upcoming build. The male toad King is still alive but sadly the frog committed suicide and the female toad passed of parasites. You can follow my build on the Frog Forum in the category other frogs and toads titled 75 Gallon PA Woods Vivarium. Thanks for the support and be on the lookout for upcoming videos.

This is super cool. I have 3 toad tanks all connected to each other using 2” shop vac hose so my toads can roam between tanks. In the first two smaller tanks I used eco earth as a substrate but in the third and largest (70 gallon), I didn’t have enough eco earth so I topped it off with natural dirt from outside. I don’t know if it’s the large size or the natural dirt, but most of my toads prefer tank 3 over the other two and will reliably find their way into that tank even if I take them out and place them into a different tank. Some of them don’t seem to care and will stay where they are placed, but when I change the substrate I will use natural dirt in all 3 and see if that makes a difference. I really like that you have all kinds of plants and stuff here and think I will do that as well + make a pond area where the toads can breed. I have multiple water dishes per tank but so far I have one pair of toads that regularly goes into amplexus but the female toad (Mrs. Toad, original I know) just doesn’t seem interested in laying eggs and the male (Nugget) remains on her back for days, sometimes over a week before I guess he gets hungry and gets off to eat. Toads are such cool animals, thanks for the video

@@WoodsandForestsMedia cool, thanks for the comment, subscribed here for now! I just started keeping toads this past summer after moving to an area where I see toads outside and remembering how I used to love catching them as a kid , and decided to learn how to really take care of them properly, so I’m learning a lot right now. Currently I have plastic totes as enclosures since they’re cheaper and I didn’t think it would be right to have toad(s) in such a small tank as a 10-20 gal tank. To make up for the fact that you can’t see into the sides, I put a camera in each tank and can watch it from my phone of computer. Very cool to watch the toads do their thing when they know nobody is nearby. So because the tanks are plastic, it was easy to cut a hole in the side and use some standard shop vac hose with rigid end fittings, sealed with jb weld to connect them. I’ll be sure to check back to see your new enclosures 👍

Hi! I am getting a few toads soon and plan on creating a beautiful enclosure full of plants just like yours. I am wondering, how do you clean your tank if you do so at all? and how much sunlight does your tank get? Thank you.
@WoodsandForestsMedia
@WoodsandForestsMedia 4 года назад
Great question! If you include Springtails and Isopods in with your setup they will clean up a lot of the decaying matter for you. I would recommend looking for poop and still cleaning that out but the insects I mentioned will actually help get rid of molds and dying parts of plants and etc. I use strip light fixtures to give my tanks enough light. I would highly recommend this fixture it is an Odyssea T5 Quad Light Fixture with a timer. You can set the time you want the lights to turn on and off which makes maintenance much easier and it will make keeping the toads more seamless. Good luck with your toads and comment back if you have any other questions.

Very nice vivarium for your toads. Wondering if you can answer a question. I have an injured American common toad (a male) who lost his back leg. I put him in a 20 gallon tank and have been feeding him. Can he survive if I release him? I've got many solar lights in my garden for the toads and a couple saucers of water, but not sure if the little guy can burrow (or catch bugs easily) and it's getting colder out.
@WoodsandForestsMedia
@WoodsandForestsMedia 4 года назад
I would not release the toad I would actually keep it if injured because it would not stand a fair chance out in the wild. if you already have let it go I guess no harm done I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.
@SylvesterSun
@SylvesterSun 4 года назад
PA Woods and Forests thank you. I did end up releasing it because of a response from a reptile & amphibian rescue in my area. The toad could actually burrow really well and could move fast, so I'm hoping it's ok. The rescue group said it would lose it's natural instincts and not survive if I released it in the spring and that I should release it immediately.. Thanks again for the response.

Wouldn’t the poison of the American toad harm the leopard frog?
@WoodsandForestsMedia
@WoodsandForestsMedia 3 года назад
No because it only comes out when stressed. There is no scientific evidence their toxin pollutes water. That's a myth someone created. There is proof of the toxin not harming frogs and toads in the same pools and even in captivity.
