At first my doctors thought it was gluten also but I tested negative twice for celiac. Wheat sensitive is different than gluten sensitive, please avoid tunnel vision on gluten. There are many other aspects of wheat. It took 23 years but I finally learned it was because of something not done in Europe. North American wheat products are "fortified" or "enriched" with cheap garbage b vitamins which messes with methylation in half of humanity, as per strong epigenetics dna science of recent decades. Synthetic b vitamins cause so much trouble w dna methylation and creates autoimmunity inflammatory response, low energy, high sugar cravings and more. Resolving this one issue by avoiding North American wheat products and instead eating active form b vitamins is literally life changing for the better. ♡
Folic acid (synthetic) is NOT the same as folate (active form b9). Folic acid (synthetic) is why so many pregnant women end up with gallstones and need gallbladder surgery. DNA methylation issues directly cause inflammation. This is known science and the north american system is corrupt. B vitamin tests arent even in standard bloodwork and only tested for as an aside, yet 30-50% of people are affected by this. Can't fight chemistry. Read the science behind mthfr genes and remember folic acid is fake, folate is real and the body knows one is problematic the other isnt.
My protein powder has soy lecithin.. it's the isopure just whey and lecithin.... is that messing me up? it's hard to find a pure whey, even harder to find it without soy lecithin..
#1 Trans fats (margarine and shortening). Often not shown on labels. #2 Emulsifiers, polysorbate 20 or 80 (Pudding cups, shelf stable cakes). Causes leaky gut by “bursting cells in the gut lining”. #3 Soybean oil (shelf stable tomato sauce, marinara). Increases liver markers and fat mass causing metabolic issues. Goes rancid very fast. #4 High fructose corn syrup (regular soda). So many other options. It’s a chemically adulterated syrup that affects brain function. Can be seen with a blood/glucose monitor. #5 Red dye #40 (froot loops). Cause ADHD and energy/mood problems especially in children. #6 Regular mayonnaise. Pure nasty soybean oil. Slimy calorie bomb. #7 Doritos. Cocktail of bad stuff including MSG and rancid oils. #8 Gluten. Cause aches in joints and brain fog in the states, not so much in Europe. *You have to be your own Guinea pig. Pay attention to what foods don’t feel right. 💪
@@schmingusss HFCS is very different than than table sugar. Table sugar is fructose bonded with glucose. HFCS is a mixture of fructose and glucose. Table sugar is worse for your teeth. HFCS is worse for your body.
I personally don't have an issue with gluten (I've done Whole 30 countless times and never had an issue reincorporating wheat products after the 30 days). *HOWEVER*, I do have a real issue with how wheat can be harvested in the United States, specifically with using glyphosate during harvesting. And I'm not trying to fear monger but I've battled lymphoma and while I'm not saying glyphosates were definitively responsible for my cancer, why add that layer of risk. There are brands widely available that are certified organic and GMO free (including not using wheat treated with glyphosate). Dave's Killer Bread and Ezekiel Bread are two examples (plus I love Dave's practice of hiring former prisoners). I also love sour dough but it's hard to know what kind of flour the corner shop is using. Fortunately, King Author's organic flour is glyphosate free.
Easy, fast mayonnaise in a blender. Drop one egg in the blender, blend well, drop 1 drop of olive oil per 2 seconds while blending, about 1 tablespoon total, until emulsified. Optional, add a pinch of salt, or garlic, or herbs.
I add the juice of a lemon and a tsp of salt and a Tbsp of mustard to a raw egg and slowly add avocado oil. I don't measure just eye it!! It is the oil that thickens the mayo. I wasn't adding enough at first and kept using my runny mixture for a great salad dressing till I learned. I love mayo and feel so much better making my own.
As a European I'm shocked what kind of stuff gets put into American food. If manufacturers tried to put soybean oil into anything here in France, I'm sure there'd be a second revolution lol
The damage was done here. I believe that we Americans are waking up. There is only one excuse for these inflamatiries in our food supply, which is to ensure a steady supply of patients (customers) in the “healthcare” system.
That is why we're fat here. I work out everyday, intensely, walk, count calories and macros...and still...when I go to Europe, I only walk and eat bread etc. and drink alcohol. And I lose weight
The human body is remarkably resilient. The fact that Thomas eliminated these foods after years of consumption and is in his now excellent state of health shows that there is hope for anybody who thinks they are trapped in our culture’s processed food MATRIX. I also stopped eating the foods he mentioned and as a 50 year old my hair stopped turning white and falling out, my crow’s feet literally disappeared and my overall skin went from being dry and cracked to firm, smooth and healthy. Thanks for the great info and explanations.
Citing research from a garbage journal isn't my idea of better. The European journal of allergy and clinical immunology isn't a reputable peer reviewed journal. So the "study" should be completely disregard.
@@jennoscura2381I think what she’s pointing out is that we now understand that most doctors are bought and sold by the uh merican hrt assos (intentionally misspelled) and big far muh etc. There’s no denying it.
Assuming what you said is true. How do you know that those food were responsible? I have to imagine that you did other things too. So you really have no good way of knowing what did it. By the way, I had seizures as a kid and lived with someone who has seizures. So I am sensitive to this issue.
There was a story in Reader's Digest some years ago about how perfectly scientifically engineered Doritos are to make your brain tell you to not stop eating them. It was eye-opening.
When Thomas was talking about Fruit Loops, it made me think of the scene in Die Hard... Powell: Roy! Roy! You all right? McClane: Yeah, just trying to choke down a thousand year old Twenkie. What do they put in these things? Powell: Sugar, enriched flour, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, polysorbate 60, and yellow dye #5...just everything a growing boy needs.
Promoting "research" from a garbage journal isn't my idea of honest. The European journal of allergy and clinical immunology isn't a reputable peer reviewed journal. So the "study" should be completely disregard.
@@vaneast411why am I not surprised that he hawks products after testing people that regular products are bad. He has a financial interest in getting people to think foods at regular grocery stores are bad.
Gluten makes my joints ache too. It was becoming really difficult to walk and I stopped walking/hiking/exercising. Grocery shopping in the store was tough and I even started physical therapy. I cut out gluten almost 3 weeks ago and went on my first hike in over a year this past weekend. It's still painful but not as bad. I'm learning lots from your channel and turning my life around. I don't know if you read your comments, but seriously thank you for all that you do. I feel the kindness in your soul.
With regards to our wheat, you are absolutely correct! I spend several weeks each year in Europe and eat bread daily, all kinds of bread! Not huge sandwiches but some form of bread and it never ever affects me or causes bloating. It doesn't create cravings for more bread either and when I come home, I simply don't eat it again without any "withdrawals" at all. I did cave once last year and ordered imported flour from France to make a few homemade fermented loaves and I was in heaven while it lasted! :) Too expensive to continue though - especially comparing the $18 I spent know it's about $3.00 over there.
As a European, I thank goodness every day for the quality of the food products in our supermarkets. Mayonnaise, peanut butter, and so on, are the real thing here, no dodgy BS ingredients added.
I use canned tomato puree (should have nothing else in the ingredients list, maybe citric acid but that's it), fry up some garlic and onions, mix with tomato puree--delicious.
I make my own spaghetti sauce from scratch, in large batches and then portion it out and freeze it. I use tomato sauce and paste with NO added salt or anything artificial (they are cheaper too) I use fresh vegetables and the sausage has no preservatives such as nitrites, nitrates, or MSG.
@@CarbageMan Yes, that works. Also, there is no rule saying you have to have cheese on the pizza. You can put together a good mix of toppings you like that work with your diet and have a very tasty pie!
@@Brian-uy2tj I'd be willing to bet if you surveyed 1000 people 950 would say that pizza without cheese isn't pizza. It may be a pie, but it's not pizza, and if you're low carb, good luck making it without cheese-you could make it from meat and egg, but then it would also be something else.
Thomas, your efforts to teach and guide are not lost! Thank you for this plain & clear toxic list! Most adults have read (or heard) some of this research but then we push it aside for another product exposure or supplement necessity that has hit the scene. PEOPLE NEED REMINDERS!
You’ve gotta be kidding me I’ve literally been putting 3 tablespoons of margin in my smoothies for the past four years. No wonder I have high blood pressure.
Thanks, Thomas. I have not had ANY of the foods you mention since I was about 15 years old. I'm 74 now and from the time I was 15 to now, I have not had any health issues at all, not even a cold or headache. I also don't have "a potato chip now and then" as you mentioned. I really enjoy health foods and the ketogenic diet, which I started years and years ago before it became really popular. I tried the carnivore diet but it constipated me so much that I had to stop it. That was the only foray away from my keto diet in many, many years. My health is so good that I don't even have health insurance. In fact, I've never had health insurance in my life and I've never needed it. Even if I did need it I would not have it because I've done the math (along with the help of a friend who is a health insurance actuary)/ The numbers say it would cost me less to pay outright for hospitalization or doctor's visit/health care costs than it would to pay health care premiums every month.. I guess you could say I'm pretty much free of the medical industrial complex propaganda.
The insuranve thing is such a lie on your part. You have a major car accident and youll have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cancer treatment? Good luck if you dont have PPO insurance. Anyways youre playing w fire at your age not having health insurance.
I was relatively young felt arrogant that I was healthy n didn't need health insurance Two days after it ended I got sick n have been dealing w an Abstact condition f 32 years!😢
I’m 66 and have never had medical insurance. If you’re in a bad car accident or develop some deadly disease insurance only covers up to a certain point. Unless you’re wealthy, in which case it doesn’t matter.
In the 1970’s and 80’s there was a huge push to use margarine instead of butter. The plastic tubs had heart association approval labels and commercials were everywhere. Low fat foods were also being introduced. The irony is that folks were much thinner back then. There is also a strange culture of more is better either regards to portion sizes now. We eat too much and much of it is at best unhealthy and at worst downright deadly.
Yes. So we raised our children on margarine. Hasn’t been till this last few years that I switched to butter. Then a couple of months ago, I discovered that margarine, and coconut oil clogged the arteries. Now I use NO butter, and switched to olive oil.
Over 50 years ago the Lancet published a paper about the toxic effects of Margarine and trans-fats. Yet they keep selling this poison. Delicious Aussie butter and EVOO for me 😋
I read that the modern practice for harvesting wheat is to take the short variety (much bigger yield, but a number of novel forms of gluten) and then they spray it with glyphosate so they kill it just before harvest. Easier to harvest that way, but totally contaminated with glyphosate, which can ruin the microbiome in short order. The only way I can think of to see if it is any member of the wheat family causing the trouble, or only the new forms of wheat and the glyphosate, would be to grow early forms of wheat such as kamut or spelt oneself, harvest and thresh it, grind it (Champion Juicer can do that) and bake with it.
Our favourite coconut milk contains polysorbate 20. Hubby has made and consumed a smoothie with it every single day for several years. The consequence has been that he has grown a hard, round belly about the size of a pre-schooler. He’s still slim everywhere else.
Dr. Berg says that's from fatty liver. I thought of him because he used that exact phrase, "men who are thin everywhere else but have a big round belly". There's tons of videos on how to fix that.
@@samwiseg7380Please stop taking nutrition advice from a chiropractor. Look up Dr Layne Norton if you want someone who actually has a background in what they talk about
Sounds like he is on the road to metabolic syndrome! Next stop Type 2 Diabetes. Not good... My son in his 20s has an enlarged liver from processed foods. Im always trying to sway him from such things. Ugh.
I really appreciate your videos. I have an autoimmune disease and other related health problems. I had brain cancer 8 years ago when my oldest daughter was only 2. I went gluten free and noticed a tremendous change in my overall health. Less fatigue, brain fog, etc. Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way and I fell off the bandwagon. I’ve gained weight and feel horrible most every day. I’m using your channel to motivate me to restructure my diet, not just for my sake, but my family’s. My daughters are 7 and 11 and both have random skin issues (eczema), allergies and my oldest has GI problems. I suspect it’s diet related. Hoping to make some major changes starting with eliminating those heavily processed foods.
Great list. My son, when he was young, was terribly allergic to red dye 40. He would have 45-minute-long explosive tantrums until we discovered his allergy. Cutting the dye eliminated the tantrums (well, at least their duration and intensity). Secondly, a great argument for eliminating gluten is that doing so will greatly alleviate arthritis pain. And lastly, I've tried the different brands of mayonnaise that use avocado oil or olive oil in place of seed oils, and they taste acceptable to me, but not all that good. Sorry, but none can even compare with the taste of Hellman's.
There's only one thing of this list that I eat/cook with that's msg I love it, I Measure everything I eat. Once I hit my protein, carb, fat limit for the day, nothing can make me eat anything else, I just drink more water.
On the gluten, particularly the gliadin in it, has been linked to weakening tight junctions in the gut. It is a fairly direct contributor to gut permeability issues.
I watch a lot of vids on food, fitness, diets, etc. I have a history (layman) of studying nutrition. This guy knows his stuff. I have made similar modifications to my diet.
Thank you for breaking down these principles for nutrition novices! I recently discovered your videos, and I am using this information to make healthier choices everyday. Thank you!
Another great video! Thanks for Sharing this information 💪🏽 It would be nice that you make a video about your child nutrition for the ones that has kids.
Bro, listening to you talk about Helmans Mayo and me instantly remembering all the time I made mac salad with it and mixed tons of it into my pasta. Thanks Bro.
I appreciate your content. There are so many ingredients used in the US that are banned in other countries. I'm definitely planning to move out of the country in the next 10 years and in the meantime, I'll be on the lookout for Red Dye 40 and soy bean oils. I absolutely hate mayo and never had an issue eating that. I use Greek yogurt for tuna salads with the right seasonings 🫶🫶🫶🔥🔥🔥
This is the first RU-vid list of foods to avoid that isn't B.S. The other guys have lists that always try to sell some shite at the end and aren't based on science. This is an intelligent list that will benefit the viewer if they avoid these foods. A glucose monitor is useful as is a calories guide for the basic food groups. Eat the right foods and keep your calories in range and get some exercise. That's it! Oh yeah. Make your own mayonnaise! It's easy and less than half the price of store bought.
Here's the dirtiest secret. Flour and bread companies add twice as much gluten in flour and processed breads than what's naturally in a wheat berry. It's also a lie that wheat in the USA is genetically modified. They can't do that because of the regulations other countries have and USA wheat is imported all over the world. Note that organic wheat berries that's cooked immediately after being milled is nutritious rarely cause sensitivity in 99 percent of people because it doesn't have the loads of gluten that's in processed. Another factor is a wheat berry will go rancid within 3 days. So remember all that processed bread and flour is rancid! Once the kernel of wheat is broken open, however, as in milling, the protection of the bran is gone and many of these nutrients, now exposed to oxygen, are lost by oxidation. In fact, once milled, as much as 45% of the nutrients are oxidized, in the first day alone. In 3 days, just 72 hours later, 90% of the nutrients are lost, all to oxidation alone and none to the sifting of the bran and germ. Since I now freshly mill my own wheat before making bread or cooking with it, my gluten sensitivity went away.
I agree with every single thing you said, and most recently, ive seen the affects of gluten, ie glysophate and how i feel and look. Cutting it as much as possible.
Seed oils contain high levels of the long chain fatty acid, linoleic acid, which gets absorbed by the brain and is linked to cognitive decline. Glucose and ketones can be fine as brain fuel but linoleic acid has much bigger molecules causing much more oxidative stress. The natural antioxidant defences in your body can easily handle a small amount of oxidative stress but there is a limit.
1) margarine 🧈 and shortening 2) instant pudding and emulsifiers 3) shelf stable food with soybean oil in it. 4) Regular soda 🥤 5) Froot Loops 🔁-red dye 40 is dangerous 6) candies 🍭 7) mayonnaise-oxidized soybean oil and a calorie bomb 💣 8) Doritos chips-high fat, sugar, msg, and artificial coloring. Kettle fried chips are better. 9) Gluten-the harvest of wheat 🌾 in the United States 🇺🇸. Glyphosate theory
Titanium dioxide. Used as food coloring. FDA allows up to 1% of your food to be titanium dioxide by weight. It's literally titanium rust. Banned in many, many countries. "Generally recognized as safe" in US though!
There’s another component to the gluten issue (beyond glyphosate used for harvesting) in that people usually consume it via bread products. Read the ingredient labels on any commercial bakery items - breads, bagels, donuts, pancake mix, cakes, cookies, crackers - the flour used will be full of additives: emulsifiers, dough conditioners, dough extenders, dough enrichers, occasionally colorants, and preservatives. (I first noticed this when trying to replicate a local bread in Italy, and read the label: flour, yeast and salt. Three items! I began l looking at bread labels back in the States, and they have 15-25 ingredients.) It may be the gluten, the residual glyphosate, or any number of commonly used additives.🤷♀️
The worst thing in bread is bromines, which block iodine from reaching your thyroid. They switched out iodine for bromine to save money, and look at the thyroid disease epidemic we have now.
UK here, just been and checked the cupboard and I don't see any of these things in regular store/shelf bought products. The only oil I see regularly on ingredient lists is rapeseed oil, the rest of the stuff like HFCS, Red dye 40, polysorbates, soybean oil etc. I don't see anywhere, unless of course we call them something else but from what I can see our ingredient lists of regular foods seems pretty benign. Fast foods and highly processed stuff I can't speak to as I don't buy those anyway and I stopped eating breakfast cereals when I was about 13.
Europe has supposedly banned a lot of those ingredients; so most likely they aren’t in there. I wish America would do the same, but all our government cares about is 💰and not the health of its citizens. Lucky you!🤣
I've really just starting making everything from scratch that I can (yes, Mayo was 2nd on this list - made some this morning. It really takes about 2 minutes once you learn the recipe). There are just so many toxins added the the SAD it's unreal. I work from home and this is a luxury that I take advantage of.
great video - I feel that way with seed oils - they kill my gut. I can't eat salad out at a restaurant because of this. thinking of taking my home made one with me lol
Here are some hacks. I used to love eating cheesies and Doritos almost every day. Now I make organic non gmo popcorn myself cooked in coconut oil. I put half butter, half olive oil on it, sea or Himalayan salt, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, paprika, turmeric and black pepper on it. You could add some chilli and parmesan if you wanted. It is sooooo good. No gmo corn, no msg, no overheated canola oil. For the mayo. I make my own at home with avocado oil. My family did not like it till I added a bit of honey and a tiny bit of cayenne. They still did not love it, so I mixed it half and half with Helman's. Then after they got used to that, I mixed just a third Helman's, now we are at a quarter Herman's and three quarters homemade. Another thing to cut down on the store bough mayo if you are having trouble extricating it from your diet, is to use some olive oil and balsamic, or apple cider vinegar with it. That works if you are doing a coleslaw or potato salad.
I agree with all you said, and of all the foods you mentioned, I absolutely never eat them, except one, and that is Mayo, and Hellman's at that. I know it's bad, but I have tried all the olive oil varieties, and so-called the "keto" Mayo. I end up throwing them away because they taste so bad. Primal, Chosen, you name it. I bought them, tasted them, and threw them away. I use Mayo to make salad dressing and my daily salad is an important part of my keto and weight loss success. If anyone knows of a Mayo that tastes as good as traditional Mayo without the bad oils, let me know.
I just got hooked on Trader Joe's whole milk Greek yogurt. Unbelievable taste and texture. Maybe add some dill and make a dressing that way. I love mayo too but its time for a change, Follow Your Heart Vegenaise is pretty tasty as a substitute.... INGREDIENTS (vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, non-gmo): Expeller-Pressed High-Oleic Safflower Oil, Filtered Water, Brown Rice Syrup, Apple Cider Vinegar, Pea Protein, Sea Salt, Mustard Flour, Lemon Juice Concentrate.
Hey man, Thanks for the sound advice! I’m sure most of us appreciate highly what you do! On the subject of Emulsifiers, what’s your take on Soy and sunflower lecithins are they any good for us or? There’s so much information online I don’t even know where to start… Thanks 🙏
Wow. As I was watching your video I was going prepare a jello sugar free pudding mix. Changed my mind. Thank you. I’m working towards eliminating all ultra processed foods from my diet.
Good video thanks for sharing; about gluten, my suspicion is that most wheat is now GMO or "engineered" for production value vs nutritional etc. It was fine in the 70/80s but not anymore, too many big businesses involved in setting US standards across the board.
I went through a phase where I was eating fruit loops a few times a week, nothing else in my diet was out of the ordinary. I only ever bought the single cup size because I never wanted to commit to a whole box. I only did this several times before I started breaking out in hives every night. I fasted on water for 28 days and by the end I was still breaking out in hives. I do believe it was the fruit loops, it took 28 days of fasting and then some for the hives to stop and not return.
When I go to a restaurant and have a salad, I ask for olive oil and vinegar instead of any type of "italian" dressing or other vinaigrette. They mostly have emuslifiers and soybean oil or other seed oils. If I like a restaurant, but they don't have olive oil, I'll actually bring my own with me.
Agree with you! I try not to buy anything with soy bean oil or flour. I do make most of my foods from scratch, mayo, salad dressings, bread, desserts etc...
You are absolutely 100% correct about the wheat in Europe you’re not going have that problem. it is different wheat White wheat ,,,,way easier to digest. It doesn’t have the gluten levels of the North American wheat ,,
Siette now has nixtamalized tortilla chips cooked in avocado oil and salted with sea salt. Called Maiz and Totopos on the bag. As far as wheat. The BIGGEST issues are, glyphosate (aka Roundup). It can be used to spray the harvested wheat when it's stored to prevent sprouting and the wheat can still be called organic. Only way to be sure to avoid this is to get organic wheat from a local farmer that guarantees he doesn't do that, and you want a heritage wheat with less gluten. Then- mill your own. Second, even whole wheat flour isn't true whole wheat. Some of the bran has been removed. Turns out the bran stripped out is necessary to help digest the gluten. Third. European bread has a minimum rise time of 8 hours. In the US we use fast yeast allowing less than a 2 hour rise time and in many cases only an hour. The long rise time used in Europe breaks down a large portion of the gluten. I've seen different interviews with experts on gluten intolerance and celiac that have discussed this. (sorry biscuit lovers)
Your definition of "never" must be different from mine. A week ago, you said you occasionally have a Diet Coke. I just _happened_ to observe this. 😏 You can add cottonseed oil and canola oil to soybean oil. Those are all basically machine lube. PS: I'm a fan of Chosen Foods, and use their mayo along with dijon to make a dijonnaise. I feel great after I have that on wild salmon.
Their is Organic version of Doritos now in the stores made by brand Called “Simply” pretty clean ingredients. I buy them ones an a while when craving Doritos …. 🤔 and when it comes to eat bread things i buy Italian flour or Sprouted wheat flour and make some healthy goodies at home, and I try to avoid eating out when it comes to sweet things 👀 . I also buy sprouted or sourdough bread only.
I make a mayo substitute, avocado, cream cheese, sour cream, salt, lemon or acv. I love it on sandwiches with homemade sourdough bread or even dip my Siete chips in it. 😊
most coconut milk has polysorbate and its not even required for it to be on the label on Canada its voluntary. Its sad because most coconut milk consumers are health amd nutrition orientated and but no one suspects coconut milk!
I read my labels. I like avocado mayo from Costco. It’s sad because I know many people that consume a lot of fake stuff: fake butter, fake coffee, fake creamers, fake ice cream, fake pasta sauce, fake deserts, fake oils, and the list goes on. They all have health issues from digestion to psychological, but they don’t make the connection, and they all take lots of meds. Med for this, med for that. One pops over 10 pills a day, all at the same time🙉 No wonder our health insurance is sky high. Everybody thinks that our bodies can run on any junk we put in it because it comes out the other end (until it doesn’t). Thanks Thomas for all those videos to make us aware. Appreciate it👍
It’s the glyphosate. I eat exclusively organic breads in moderation and I’m fine. Regular bread wheat is often sprayed with Round Up after it’s cut to prevent mold while drying. And they don’t care who that harms.
I have a really simple recipe for a single serving of chocolate pudding made in the microwave with just 4 or 5 ingredients (extra flavourings optional). 5 minute to make and another 5 in the freezer to cool down (if I can wait that long).
I am severely gluten sensitive, but I am able to tolerate (and even got a lot of benefit from) einkorn flour. It's an ancient grain that is unhybridized and has a different strain of gluten. It is a staple on the Mediterranean diet. If I want to have carbs, I make my bread, pasta, and any dessert from scratch with this grain. I believe it is grown in Italy. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to keep carbs in their diet
Hey Thomas love this video I have these same foods on my not worth it to eat list. There are so many good delicious foods out there that don't have these weird chemicals and nasty oxidized oils so these are out of my diet and I enjoy my real foods enough that I don't even miss these. Thanks again!!!
