It´s funny how Ray says that if you take Manning out of the game they would become a below average team and a year after this was made Manning got hurt and the Colt were the worst team in the NFL

You realize they were tanking so they could get Andrew Luck, right? They started 3 QBs who after that season never started another game in their careers. It was a joke.
@jlawhenessy5160
@jlawhenessy5160 8 лет назад
+Pedro Martinez they tanked to get luck and they still have yet to get anywhere close to the productivity they had with manning. they still haven't beaten the patriots, haven't won 13 games, have yet to reach or win a Super Bowl. Peytons second season with the colts they went 13-3 and never looked back going to three afc titles, winning two, and then winning a championship while going through three coaches and key injuries. Peyton was always the constant. Even if they did tank for luck, which is ignorant of you to insinuate they still have yet to prove that they were better off with luck. The truth is losing manning crippled their entire season and they have yet to replicate the dominance they had with manning.
@PedroMartinez-tt7lr
@PedroMartinez-tt7lr 8 лет назад
+Jlaw Henessy - you missed the whole point. The 3 QBs who they started that year were patsies - there to ensure losses. But since you brought it up - Manning was 26-22 his first 3 seasons; Luck was 33-15. Manning was 0-3 in the playoffs his first 3 seasons; Luck was 3-3. Manning threw 58 interceptions in his first 3 seasons; Luck threw 43. Manning threw 85 TDs; Luck threw 86. So take it easy with the comparisons. Luck is still young.

Pedro Martinez Curtis Painter was with the colts years before Manning was hurt, he played so bad they went and got Orlovsky who was actually some what of a upgrade. Also Manning is god, Year Manning retires Denver misses playoffs for the first time in 5 years.

@jyashin

@Chris Paul So Bill Walsh is not a great coach? Joe Montana not a great quarterback? And let's completely disregard how elite the 49ers defense was, when they had that goal-line stand against the Bengals in 1982. Let's not act as though Rice didn't have multiple elite hall of fame players/staff around him. Even Anthony Munoz had a hall of fame coach (Forrest Gregg). Walter Payton had the greatest defense of all time in addition to Ditka coaching. Reggie White couldn't even sniff the postseason until he went to Green Bay. And the icing on the cake is that Brady did everything in the era of the hard salary cap. Let's see how good those players from the past would do when a third of the roster leaves the moment they taste success.

He perfectly assessed the Colts since their 2011 season without Manning resulted in them getting the first overall pick: Andrew Luck. Manning made the Colts a contender almost every season.

Peyton Manning was unbelievable. The play I remember him most for was against my Cowboys in 2013 when he was playing for Denver. Its 21-17 just befor half, and our defense does a great job to force it to 3rd and goal at the 1. The usually immobile Peyton Manning appears to hand off the ball, to the point the cameraman buys it, and Manning bootlegs it for a TD with NOBODY near him. I remember him turning around to high five his teammates, and he had the biggest "I got you" smile I had seen in awhile. It hurt so bad at the time, but it was a beautifully intelligent play call by the guy. Smartest QB ive ever seen.
@jonathanjames29
@jonathanjames29 6 лет назад
I love the way Ray Lewis explains how Peyton out-thought defenses. I've always said that Peyton Manning is the greatest of all time (not because he's the greatest football player to play QB; but rather, bc he revolutionized the way the position is played). He did to defenses and defensive coordinators, the same thing that L.T. did to offenses and offensive coordinators (when Lawrence Taylor came into the League, offenses had to change the way they carried out plays bc there had never been an OLB like him). The same goes for Manning. Manning was not only a physical talent (hell, you can find a talented football player anywhere!), but Manning was a mental talent (a skill that most physically talented QB's don't have; esp. not on the level of Manning...sure Michael Vick was a passing and running threat; but like many of these types of talents, defenses could easily figure them out and stop them). Manning studied the game, the defenses, the "what if's", the linebackers and safeties roles, etc. Ray Lewis was a defensive QB, and he could understand how great Peyton was. When they played against each other, it was a true battle of wits. It was always funny to watch teams that did not have intelligent linebackers try to figure out what the hell Peyton was doing (and half the time he wasn't doing anything but yelling out random words and making all these crazy movements that so many defenses thought meant something...but, think about it, the O-Line can't even see him, so all of his movements that made the defenses change their formations was funny to watch). But my point is that it is so cool to see that Ray Lewis was smart enough to tell stories about how smart Manning actually was!!!

That 2006 AFC Divisional Game vs the Ravens was a good one. 15 vs 6. I know it doesn't sound exciting but it was. That Ravens Defense was great. My favorite part of that game was the fact that Adam Vinatieri and his 5 field goals beat Brian "kickers aren't football players" Billick!
@P0RKINS2
@P0RKINS2 Год назад
The 2006 Ravens defense started the season with a shutout of the defending NFC South champions and went on to a franchise-best 13-3 record. Six defensive players made the Pro Bowl, and it wouldn't have been crazy for all 11 to go. The Ravens are one of just 3 teams since the merger to register 60 or more sacks & 40 or more takeaways in the same season; joining the 1985 & 1986 Chicago Bears. The Ravens ranked 2nd in yards per carry against (3.3) and led the league in opponents' passer rating (63.4), rushing TDs allowed (5), interceptions (28), 3rd down defense (28.8% conversion rate allowed) & Red Zone defense (33.3% conversion rate allowed) They didn't allow any of their last eight opponents to score 20 points. The 2006 Ravens allowed the fewest points (201) of any team in the post-2004 Illegal Contact Era. The Chargers - the highest scoring team in the NFL in 2006 - scored just 13 points vs that Ravens defense including none in the 2nd half. Outside of when Samari Rolle blew it on 2 bombs vs Steve Smith & the Panthers (5 scoring drives), the Colts offense tied for the most scoring drives (5) vs the 2006 Ravens defense all year. They had 5 Adam Vinatieri Field Goals, Peyton threw 2 INTs on deep balls on 3rd & 10 & 3rd & 17 to Ed Reed - basically 26 & 49 yard punts as the Colts defense forced takeaways (INT at the IND 1 yard line, INT at the IND 23 yard line) on each ensuing possession - but getting in position for those 5 FG attempts; Peyton Manning & the Colts offense was 8/12 (66.7%) on 3rd down in the playoffs vs the stingiest defense of the last 20 years. If the Colts don't beat the Ravens that day I think they probably go on to win the Super Bowl. The Patriots receivers in 2006 vs that Ravens defense; plus Brady's struggles w/ teams that can pressure w/ just 4 men - which the 2006 Ravens could do in spades - doesn't sound like a great matchup for the Patriots that year if that had been the Title Game.

How can you call a MVP award an "individual award" when it takes a TEAMmate to catch Peyton's passes so that he gets all those stats? The funny thing is that you'll sit there and say Brady's Super Bowls are a team accomplishment but PEYTON won two Super Bowls with two different teams". You may not even say that because now Brady has done the same but it was a constant favorite among Peyton fans before Brady did it. Btw, out of those 5 MVPs how many times was Peyton named MVP unanimously? ZERO! On the other hand Brady was the first player in NFL history to be name unanimous MVP. Surely you're not dumb enough to take a MVP award over winning the SB. That's why the game is played. Its the ultimate prize. Anybody can have a standout season and win MVP. Look at Cam Newton. How many QBs have gone to the SB 10 times and won 7 times? I bet you can name the SB winner in 2005 but can't name that season's MVP. Brady has went to the SB 10 times and been named MVP of that game 5 times. He's been MVP in half of the Super Bowls he's played in. There's no way you can tell me you'd take regular season MVP over winning the SB and SB MVP.

Try this: Peyton Manning: -Most one-and-dones in NFL history -Top 3 in pick-sixes -.500 record against teams with winning records in regular season -Second in most interceptions in the modern era -14-13 postseason record -Second highest single-season interception total in modern era -6-13 v. N.E. Patriots -0 playoff wins when passing 50+ times -most postseason losses in history - in 2 Super Bowl seasons threw more INTs than TDs in playoffs - 3-9 when having to throw more than 40 passes in the postseason In Manning's first five seasons in the NFL, the Colts made three playoff appearances - one as a division champion and the other two as a wild card. The Colts went 0-3 in those playoff games, losing by a combined score of 83-33 and getting shut out 41-0 in one game. Manning completed 47.6% of his passes for 558 yards (5.3 yards per attempt), one touchdown, and two interceptions, good for a passer rating of just 59.1. The Colts then played the Patriots in the 2003 AFC Championship game and Manning completed 23 of 47 passes for 237 yards, a touchdown, and four interceptions for a 35.5 rating. A year later, it was a similar story - the Colts lost to the Patriots in a game in which Manning struggled (this time posting a 69.3 rating). No starting quarterback in NFL history has lost more playoff games than Peyton Manning. 13 times, Manning's team has lost a playoff game, and eight of them have come at home (four as the AFC's top overall seed) Math doesn't lie. Great QB but not the best.

Here's more proof: Manning had the #1 defense in the league in 2007 with the Colts and lost to the Chargers in the Divisional Round AT HOME. He threw one INT on the S.D. 11 yard-line and another at the San Diego 2 yard-line. Choke city. Manning had the #2 D in 2005 and also lost in the divisional round AT HOME, getting his team into the end zone ZERO times in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Peyton Manning - most interceptions by a rookie; most playoff losses; most pick-sixes in the history of the Super Bowl; most one-and-dones; 10 seasons with 15+ interceptions (Brady has had NONE; and there are about 1,000 other negative stats which counter Manning's impressive positive stats. He was an innovator and one of the greats but the GOAT doesn't have a .500 record in the postseason and go 9-15 versus his archrivals. Heck, Manning was 28-28 against the AFC East. He had a mediocre record against good teams.

Many say Brady over Manning, I disagree. Don't get me wrong, Brady was great too. But for Manning to win league MVP in 03 04 08 09 for the colts. Then get injured in 2010 miss all of 2011, win comeback player of the year in 2012 in his first season with a new franchise. Then the next year, lead your team to the super bowl, set the single season touchdown passing record and win a fifth league MVP. That's true greatness.

Peyton Manning had 2,546 career drives. He finished w/ 539 Career TD Passes. Other notable QBs at 2,546 career possessions: 1. Tom Brady - 435 TD Passes +104 2. Drew Brees - 465 TD Passes +74 3. Brett Favre - 385 TD Passes +154 4. Aaron Rodgers - 473 TD Passes +66 All others rank well below Manning in career TD Passes. I know it is only one statistical category but you get the point. The question isn’t whether or not Peyton Manning is the best statistical QB ever. The only question is by how much.

There are quarterbacks who were better. I will admit that the third best QB of all time is Peyton, number two is Montana, and The G.O.A.T is Tom Brady. I mean yeah Manning has 5 regular season MVP's but when it all comes down to it what matters the most? Super Bowls! I did enjoy the Super Bowl run in 2006, but I couldn't imagine being a Patriots fan and seeing 4 and also beating their rival, Colts, every year lol

Superbowls are a team stat. Brady hasn't won a Superbowl without Belichick, a top ten defense in points allowed, or a first round bye. Manning did more for his teams than Brady did for his.

Peyton's numbers in the playoffs are almost identical to Brady's Peyton: 40td 24int 7,198yrds 88.1pr 63.35cp 14 wins Brady: 56td 28int 7,957yrds 88.0pr 62.38cp 22wins You add on top of that the 3-1 record manning has against Brady in championship games And you can see how flawed your playoff comparison argument is. Only thing Brady has on manning is having played for the greatest coach of all time, while Peyton took four coaches and two different franchises to win his sb's which no qb has been able to do not saying one is better then the other but even in playoffs Peyton is an all time qb.
@matador7457
@matador7457 8 лет назад
andromeda gen Sounds like a classic case of reading too much into the stats. First of all, I wouldn't call their TD to INT ratio almost identical. There's actually a pretty significant difference there. Plus, a lot of Brady's stats are against better teams because he's made it deeper into the playoffs on more times than Manning. And secondly, have you actually seen all of their playoff games? All QBs throw picks, but Manning has thrown them in crucial times and costed his team the game on multiple, memorable occasions. Brady is known for his consistency and being able to execute 4th quarter game-winning drives. If an unbiased football fan like myself (Eagles fan) is going to put the game in one of these QBs hands and trust him to be clutch, 90% of fans would have to pick Brady. Not to mention that Manning has more one-and-done playoff appearances than any other QB. Coaching and team play are obviously factors, but there's no question Brady has the better playoff pedigree. Brady has never had to take different coaches or franchises to the SB because he's only needed to stick with one, due to their winning nature. Your argument is the only flawed one here lol
@SanDmaNTheFreakTrucker
@SanDmaNTheFreakTrucker 6 лет назад
Everyone debates about who’s the greatest QB ever and there will never be a definitive answer bc people are biased. You could say Brady bc he’s a Pat and has a lot of SB rings, could say Manning bc he holds the main passing records, or Montana bc he was a God in the playoffs...and for me it will always be Marino bc of what he accomplished nearly by himself. Manning is definitely my top five though. A genius behind center. Didn’t have the best deep ball but was deadly accurate and proof that brains over brawn is the way to go.
