After moving away a few years ago, and knowing in my heart I’d be back, I just got hired with a huge civil contractor in Anchorage and will finally be able to live my dream of getting back up north and raising my kids in this beautiful state...I kept my Alaska phone number and bank account lol 2-3 weeks from now I’ll be on the Alcan..

I just drove up from picking up a camp trailer. The Alcan was surprisingly in very good shape. The last 100 miles to the Alaskan border and 75 miles past it is still a little sketchy. Aside from that it's the most beautiful drive as you know.

@@10MinutestoRouletteFortune How was the gas availability situation.? I'm looking at a run at it again this month after being gone 2 years. Figure I'll cross at Sweetgrass / Coutts.
@10MinutestoRouletteFortune
@10MinutestoRouletteFortune 2 года назад
@@MIDNIGHTSUNALASKA Availability was fine, but the expense is stiff on the wallet. I think it came to an average of $8-9 gallon on the alcan small towns at $2.48 ltr average. The only real bad part of the trip was the last 75 miles outside of TOK and 75 miles outside that border crossing. I didn't catch any troubles from Canadian border patrol but I had all my paperwork in order. Other than that I was impressed with the road conditions after a winter! I too went the Sweetgrass/Coutts into Montana. The drive through Banff is well worth it.

Hi thanks for the vidoe. My reason to move here 1. The air is cleaner. 1st spring without taking any allergy meds 2. In some small communities, you can make it without a car. I have been here for 10mos no car 3. Job opportunities in health care 4. The simplicity of life.

I moved to Houston Tx from Alliance NE about 12 years ago and I absolutely hate it hear. Too damn hot too damn busy and everyone is in a rush. Last October I was riding my motorcycle and some guy driving an f150 in a hurry missed his turn and did a U-turn straight through me. I spent weeks in the hospital and still have a bad limp to this day. I would give everything I have to move to Alaska unfortunately I already had to sell it all for medical bills and to afford my physical therapy. One day I will escape this hell and head back north I swear it.

freedom. no property tax in some areas. constitutional carry. no sales tax mostly. legal to ride atvs on the roads, outside of the towns that have outlawed it. alaskas public use areas outshine any of the lower 48s, marijuana is legal for those who are into it. and to me the best part of alaska is the shock that you get when you tell some you live there or are moving there. tells me i have made the right choice.

@@patrickcoyne1292 and neither and I. But they ARE which is my point. :) I think they are more jealous of our courage to come up here as the only real way to do it, without going completely broke or massively in debt, is to leave everything behind and start over. Unless people have big bucks, moving all of their belongings is stupid expensive. That's why my friends are jealous because they can't. I literally went from a 3 bedroom 2 bath house to what I could put in my truck and left everything else behind........everything. Sold my house as is and just left. Not many could do that but without going $10k+ in debt, it's really the only way.

I moved 7 months ago and I love it!! I wish this state could stay on the low down. So many other states have been ruined already. What I like the most? If you buy a condo under $200k or so, there is NO property tax. I downsized to put some coin in the bank and I pay no income tax, no sales tax and NO property tax. You at least get a nice exemption. What is better than that??? The PFD is good enough for a round trip ticket once a year. You get on the highway 8 miles out and nobody is there. CONS? It's EXPENSIVE for everything but the pay is a bit higher. Keep in mind everything gets shipped in and thanks to Biden, fuel to get it here everything is crazy high. What is good is you can go catch your food up here. Ship Creek Kings are coming in. If you are a city person and like a lot of nightlife, it won't work for ya. Downtown during the week is a ghost town.......it's the craziest thing I've experienced. I say to myself, "Where is everyone, it's a work day?". If you are an extrovert, you might have a hard time here as people really do keep to themselves for the most part. If you are a single guy............you most likely will stay that way up here. Guys come here to fish, hunt, camp etc.............not to chase woman. They just aren't here if you seek one over a 6. 8s are a rare unicorn. Forget 9s and 10s. Just keeping it real.

I’ve lived in Alaska 16 years and to this day the only way I’ve entered and exited this state is by aircraft. Retired military and a federal employee sheltered from life’s realities except for war deployments. Outside of food and gas, it’s not that expensive here. You can get a decent small home or condo for $300,000 easily. Not even possible for much of the Lower 48 now unless you live in states nobody cares about. And if you’re a hunter or fisherman and skilled tradesman not afraid of working hard and getting your hands dirty, it might be for you. But if you like arts, entertainment, and nightlife, not a lot to offer.

California's property tax rate is actually not bad. 1% of assessed value and can only increase a maximum of 2% a year. The longer you own a home the better the deal gets. What makes it bad is the total amount of tax on an expensive average priced home in a place like the Bay Area or LA/OC if you recently bought it and its assessed at the selling price. The really bad state for property tax is Texas. The tax on a $500,000 house in say, Ft. Worth is double what it would be for a $500,000 house in Fresno (one of the cheaper cities in California).
@alaska_realtor
@alaska_realtor Год назад
Fascinating, that's the opposite of what I've heard from people in the CA or TX markets. Does CA charge a tax for selling the home?
@jeffmorse645
@jeffmorse645 Год назад
@@alaska_realtor You have to pay capital gains tax on the sale. You can exclude 250K of it if you're single or 500K if you're married in capital gains. Back to the property tax here if a person bought a house on the coast for $200,000 in 1990 and its now worth $1,500,000 their property tax is the amount they paid in 1990 with a max increase of 2% a year allowed. Their tax bill will start out at $2,000 and 32 years later be just $3,800. If they sold the house the new buyers get hit at full assessed value ($1,500,000) and their property tax bill would be $15,000! There are homeowner deductions of course, but that's basically how it works.
