I often play background music gigs and sometimes they go for hours. Although it shouldn't, it can happen that the music gets less inspiring after some hours. I gathered some ideas for using this situation to my advantage.
DO YOU HAVE SOME OTHER IDEAS for these situations? Let me know in the comments!
The bass strings are: G+D Pirastro Oliv and A+E Pirastro Obligato. Because my fingerboard is a little uneven on the low C (A String), this note stands out very loud with the Obligatos, sorry about this!

i make walking games. like; i land 3rds of the chords at first beats and after 5ths, 7ths etc... also playing in only half position is very mindblowing

They do listen to you without giving any attention to it. And the bass, they feel it deep inside without necessarily hearing it! So keep playing and give it a great flow :)! Show your love in the bass! Badass to keep playing for hours too!

Yes you are right. If the music has a great feeling, it will transmit subconsciously to an audience, even they don't listen actively. Thanks!!

We all know these gigs! Great inspiration. 👍 Two more things to try regarding walking bass: a) Play very scale-oriented or even chromatic to connect different root notes with a minimal change of movement. b) More or less the opposite, play a "bouncing style" with many fifth and octave jumps. And something else I do often is trying to connect with the drummer as close as possible, i.e. playing simple fourth notes together with the ride on swing or hitting the bass drum in groove songs.

Bravissimo ! So funny idea n°8 !!! To see you play worse than i on your left-handed variant comfort me ! ... I'm left-handed, a real calamity that avoid me to jam playing on right bases ! I can play left way on right bass strings, but so disappointing .

Oh yes I can imagine it is a drag when you are left left handed. I wonder if it would be possible to get used to the reverse strings of a right-handed bass (as a left handed player)? But I guess many techniques work better with the "correct" string order.

Great tips! I will not try to play right handed thou, to dificult rs... I used to play a lot on musicals, it tends to be very repetitive, since variations on the bass line are not allways wellcome (actors/singers/dancers are more confortable when hearing allways the same line, so they could concentrate on the other aspects of their performance). I used this time to improve the position of my tumb on the neck, rounding it outward a little bit to avoid tension (an advice i got from Wolfang Guttler when he gave a masterclass here in Brazil).

Yes, repetitive Gigs are cool for focusing on particular technique aspects! Thanks for your comment!
