Very true. A simple choice of odd color scheme can direct attention away from small details like that. Tbh, that clip makes Kali look like a bronze statue.

According to the guy who worked on the Maniac Mansion, Nintendo eventually conceded to the nude statue because it was a a famous art piece but only "if the pubic hair was removed". Since there wasn't any pubic hair in the first place, he finally gave up trying to keep the statue. It did, however, appear in preview screen shots in Nintendo Power. Also, I can easily understand how microwaving the hamster was missed. It's a massive game with many things to try. If you try to microwave the hamster, most characters will outright refuse to do so. You have to use the musicians. The censors probably tried it with one character and noted it was not possible and moved on.

Their target audience is children. Their actual audience is nostalgic adults. Their target audience is busy playing mature rated games... Funny situation they found themselves in.

They're targeting the Switch towards adults, complete with non-cringey commercials and actual good third-party titles like Doom (2016). However, they're once again the weakest of their generation and hardcore gamers will naturally stray away. The real question is if we want video games with the occasional fun play style (Smooth Moves) or let go of all of it so Nintendo games can prosper as well. I will admit I like games that utilize motion controls _correctly_ and Wario taught me that very well. However, the majority are against them and I'd rather they stay in business because I won't really be interested in video games anymore if Nintendo is gone. As third-parties, they might shoot down just as low as SEGA did, especially if they lose certain key staff like they did during the transition. Nintendo, please don't let the Switch be your last console in regards to failure, but instead for legacy for it to continue for many years.

There's a difference between something being "bloody" and something spurting blood. Also, it is always fair to consider the nature of the game in question. Particularly in the NES era when everything looked cartoony by way of system limitations, it was a lot easier for something to look like it might be child appropriate but have graphic content anyway. But if a game was very clearly attempting to look mature, it was a lot easier to get a pass.

You forgot about NES port of "NARC". That game was probably the most violent title within the NES library. It even has Adult Book Stores in the backgrounds.

I found this video quite good . A 2 sides of the coin type deal. Also to die hard collectors information such as the exploding hamster can help since they may want to ensure they own both versions with and with out nuked hamster. Have you done any videos about content removed from games that was NOT really fully removed? We all know about hot coffee a mod could re enable it on PC and I heard that an action replay or game shark could unlock it on consoles. Also I remember Ash is Streets of Rage 3 he was "REMOVED" from the U.S. release yet a game genie or action replay allowed you to easily play as him.

More than likely, the NES team didn't bother to beat Bionic Commando before giving it the go-ahead for licensing and official release. There were lots of other games to look over at the time as well, and while Nintendo's staff certainly wasn't a one-man show, there were only so many people working there. Add to that, I seriously doubt they were all working 24 hours a day. :-)

Hogan’s prayers and vitamins phrase has nothing to do with why his icon was a crucifix. It has to do with the fact that Hogan always wore one at that time and it was famously torn off by Andre the Giant shortly before this game was released.

I'm surprised Nintendo of America even allowed Breath of Fire 2 to the U.S. for its heavy story on religion and there was even a clear swastika built into one dungeon's design. Of course that one wasn't tied to Nazis.

That was in the first Zelda did have a map design of a Swastika, however in Breath of Fire 2, you literally could walk on the swastika.

typo bro. It was 1983, it was 2 years later when the NES released on store shelves that the company's name began to grow in popularity. At the time Nintendo was a smaller company, and the NES changed the company forever on a grander scale. SNES improved upon the NES because of it being a more powerful successor console.

They might have not been sent a debugged version and couldn't finish it. If they were then someone was just being lazy and didn't catch it or think it mattered much. Since really have you ever played the game? It's not like many people finished it back in the day. Is hard.

I really hope the info for Maniac Mansion is true... I want to get the NES version, and I could never figure out if ONLY certain number of copies allowed the hamster to be microwaved, or if all copies. I live in the US, so German or PAL copies would NOT apply to me.

In Taboo, the Tarot cards (silent T at the end, it's pronounced tear-oh) the third card you mention is the 8th Major Arcana, Strength. It's a woman riding a lion, not a chimera. It's usually portrayed as a clothed woman holding a lion's jaws shut, representing self control. I see why they changed it to something easier to draw in 8bits, but no idea why she's naked now. The Lovers are traditionally naked, and I'm assuming the middle card is the High Priestess. No idea why she's naked, either. She represents wisdom.

I remember my friends and I beating Bionic Commando and blowing up Hitlers head. Even as a kid I remember thinking that it was unusually gory for the NES.
