Here are some kid-oriented commercials that aired during the afternoon cartoon block on KBHK TV 44 from around 1987 to 1988.
1. Cinnamon Toast Crunch (With all three Bakers!)
2. Cinderella 976 Number (This looks so cheap and trashy. These things basically exploited the fact that kids would dial the number without asking)
3. Fruit Roll-Ups and Fruit Wrinkles (Strawberry Fruit Wrinkles were awesome! Notice they're made by Fruit Corners and not Betty Crocker)
4. Dino-Riders (This is awesome! "Look out for the traaap!")
5. Captain Power Videotapes (This looks both awesomely cool and incredibly stupid at the same time)
6. Pudding Roll-Ups (Pudding in disguise! Pretty sure that Seth Green is in this one!)
7. Frosted Flakes (Contrary to "Teen Wolf", I don't think growling at your opponents is an effective basketball strategy)
8. Trix (The Rabbit needs a name!)
9. Snickers (Least convincing guitarist ever)
10. Powermaster Transformers (I love the announcer here. Find out in Marvel Comics!)
11. Kool Aid (Oh Yeah!)
12. Cheerios (I hate it when Yeti Mountains steal my cereal!)
13. Trix (So that contest was all for nothing? What the hell? Why can't the little bastards just give him the cereal already?!?)
14. Lucky Charms (Leprechaun on a roller coaster!)
15. Pop Tarts (Exploiting sexy teenagers for the sale of toaster pastries is not cool!)
16. Hot Wheels (I love the look of amazement from skeptic kid)
17. Fruity Marshmallow Krispies (Hell yes! That's Fred Savage telling jokes at the end, obviously. Next person who points this out gets their post removed)
18. Purr-tenders (They made some very strange stuffed animals in the 80's)
19. Promo for "Explorers"

These commercials embody the spirit of the 80's (And my own personal memories of childhood and watching cartoons) than anything else on my channel. So my response to that is basically "WTF dude?".

@bobafunky I don't understand how anybody could think that advertising hasn't changed in 30 years. Have you actually watched TV these days?

@timcich Yes I am pretty sure that is Chris Young , actor who starred in The Great Outdoors (with John Candy, Dan Aykroyd) and who also played Bryce Lynch in the recently re-released Max Headroom series (On DVD!) I spotted Chris in an Epcot center ad as well, in an earlier edition of 80's commercials that OP posted. :)

I have been looking for that Kool Aid commercial for YEARS! My best friend and I sing the "it's so wackyyyyy" when the kid floats by on the magic carpet to this day. I am sending this to her immediately!

I was in 2nd grade when these commercials were out. Who could forget Captain Power? I had the white ship and my friend had the black on. I remember the VHS tape, which came with it. Of course, G.I. Joes and Transformers were the shit, then. I liked M.A.S.K., Bionic Six, Voltron, Silverhawks and the list goes on. If you haven't noticed, I miss the 80's.

Agreed. AVGN is great at doing video game reviews of every video game and/or video game system, imaginable. I never played "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future," but I find it interesting that there was an interactive video game on video tape, when VHS was the most used home video source, back in the late 80s.

These commercials were posted in better quality in Vol 200, a five part upload compiling all of the ads from my childhood recordings of The Real Ghostbusters: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rYl4GH4iJKU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xLdwTiJq_2A.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--xfkTNzCuz0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eVFYW68khm0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bI2ausFMkG8.html It should also be noted that the ads with tracking are from a tape that ALWAYS had tracking problems, even back in the 80's. There are large sections of it that aren't even playable and have to be fast-forwarded through.

Given that I remember nearly every one of these commercials, there's no telling just how much truly awful kiddie TV I watched back in the 80s. I remember being tempted to call a 976 number once (I think for Christmas stories straight from "Santa"), but did actually seek my parents' permission. My mom made it clear in no uncertain terms that permission was denied.
@territorygal
@territorygal 14 лет назад
@SouthwesternEagle Oh, I wasn't putting you down or anything. I apologise if it came off that way. I was trying to say that I think you have a point. :) While many aspects of advertising have changed over the years (jingles, target markets, quality), there are a few basic elements that remain timeless - particularly in that Snickers ad you mentioned. The fact that you didn't grow up in the 80s, but could still relate, is only a testament to their timelessness. That's not a bad thing.
@SouthwesternEagle
@SouthwesternEagle 14 лет назад
@territorygal Wow, people are really roasting me for that comment. Geez. I was born in 1990! I know almost NOTHING about the 1980s. I'm only comparing these commercials to similarities I find in modern commercials because that's what I grew up with. My days have almost nothing in common with the 1980's, and never will.

ok first kind of ironic to have tv spots for a movie about aliens who watch T.V., i.e. Explorers, second in your info you talk about strange stuffed animals, well lets not forget the popells, yes lets teach our children to turn animals inside out , lol. sick and twisted, I loved em lol.

Wait, was there a time where families were saying "no honey you can't get a cat, but if you see a rabbit its yours"? Shouldn't it be rabbits pretending to be cats rather than the other way around. Yes, I know I take these commericals too seriously.
