Wow 1981! I don't think we even had a VCR yet in 81. If I could travel through time, I think I might just wanna visit that Mount Airy Lodge. That blue room looked awesome! And I could see Tony Bennett or Frank Sinatra? Yes please.

Apex Tech commercials were announced by the same guy for a decade or more. WOR aired a lot of them too. The Squares endings were from the 1980-81 syndicated run taped in Las Vegas. The 1970-79 theme is heard in the end credits, despite the show changing the theme to a discofied version of the theme.

WPIX from the 11Alive days! Great memories from New York! THE BASTARD?! Wow, that's a pretty rough movie title for 1981. And Tom Bosley not hawking Glad bags?! My 4 year old self would be giggling at the title. I don't know if that Apex guy ever died, because he's been a New York commercial legend throughout the 70s-90s. Also, that Mount Airy Lodge jingle stepped out of the 70s to survive many years later. You know you were on the big independents of the day WNEW, WPIX, or WOR with those ads.

WNEW/WNYW as well, they had Apex Tech commercials even during the afternoon cartoons.

The 8 O Clock movie was pretty much a WPIX staple till they became WB-affiliated. Remember WOR's Million Dollar Movie too? The times when it was an *event* to watch a movie on TV, before VCRs and DVDs and all that.

The fact that the end credits mention "The following have paid and or furnished prizes to NBC" also points this out.

IIRC, WPIX was airing reruns of previous seasons of the syndicated version along with the first run Vegas episodes. Pretty much the same thing WWOR did for Combs Feud during the 1993-94 season, airing a new episode along with a previous season.

I think that clip of the set is from a NBC rerun, as the Vegas backdrop didn't look like that behind the contestants, and no dollar score was kept \per game won(an X or an O lit up for each game won)

I was always surprised they used the word Bastard. The first time I was exposed to it as a kid! The juxtaposition with Tom Bosley is bizarre lol I always wondered how to pronounce Puch. Ah my Grandma had a Genie garage door opener just like that. Same color. That's a hell of a lot Promotional Considerations. The NY accents kill me lol Geez the promo considerations announcer sounds like he's calling a horse race lol

I enjoyed all the NJ/NYC accents in this one aren't those hotels in the Poconos the ones where you can take a bubble bath in a giant champagne glass? My cousin honeymooned there right after 9/11 "The Bastard" seems like a strongly worded title for a movie
