remember the magna will NOT lubricate the camshafts under 1500 rpm . my advise never let it stand on the sidestand idling because the right side wont get any oil at all . start and drive at once so you get the oil pressure up. until 1985 the engine came with 4mm oil tubes for the cam and after 1985 6 mm but that never fixed the problem
Where I’ve lowered it, it almost falls over on the side stand because it stands so straight up... It does still have a bit of a lean to is so thanks for the advice! I’ve often thought about putting the oil filter/pipe mod on that pushes the oil in a more efficient way.(would this help the problem?)
@@Ivon1oh1 yes thats the way too go , i have owned my magna since 2010 but mine is a 1986 and has the big pibes so i havent done it . but i always start and drive at once . nice projekt you have done
Thanks! There are times i wish mine was a two seater as well, but my girlfriend also wants her own bike... And you know what that means? I have another bike to work on! ¡Gracias! Hay momentos en los que desearía que el mío también fuera un biplaza, pero mi novia también quiere su propia bicicleta ... ¿Y sabes lo que eso significa? ¡Tengo otra motocicleta en la que trabajar! 😜
This is amazing! I am currently working on my 86 Magna, and doing similar modifications. Is the front fender stock? If so, did you paint it yourself? Mine is Chrome, but it would look better black. Just wondering what you did to yours.
Thanks! Yes, it’s stock. I gave it light sanding and painted it. Where the bike is more of a rat rod I don’t mind the chipped paint on the front fender,(difficult to paint chrome) I’ve been told a light acid wash will make the surface right enough to give a more permanent painted finish.
I have an 83 V65 that had the factory chrome fender on it. It was a bit rusty so I sent it to a guy that powder coated it gloss black. It looks almost like new and the powder coat is holding up. Pretty sure he blasted it before coating, there are no chips or disbonding anywhere
Thanks! The bars were on the bike when I got it... but I believe they are Daytona bars. These are similar: www.ebay.ca/itm/332448799229 I bought a different set off Amazon: Kapsco Moto Motorcycle Handlebar 7/8" Black Bars Euro Style Compatible with Suzuki Exacta Tracker Contender Chanpion Cyclone www.amazon.ca/dp/B016Z11JE8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_fxJ9FbS168RD1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 for my sons bike but they did hit the tank.
I think the problem with the ones I bought for my sons bike is that they aren’t long enough .. they are only 670mm... I’m pretty sure mine are around 720mm.
Thanks! All in I paid $1800-2100 Canadian (and that includes $350 I paid for the bike)…. But it’s an ongoing project so $$ continues to build … a lot of the parts were used as well..
Thanks! I bought them on ebay, they were the most expensive accessories I installed on the bike. They are actually great quality and fit without modification. Here’s a link: www.ebay.ca/itm/261863731133
How hard was bobbering it? I should be buying an 82 soon and think it would look awesome as a bobber but idk if due to it being shaft driven if it would cause undue complications
The most difficult part of bobbing the bike is figuring out where to put the wiring.. where I built the custom fender and seat I was able to house the wiring in the same basic area as stock.. To bob the rear I basically used a grinder with a metal cut-off disc, I removed it just behind the shock mount on the frame so it would keep the strength of the joint in the frame. The shaft drive wasn’t a problem, it’s basically a part of the rear swing-arm. With the short shocks(about a 2.5 inch drop) the angle of the shaft isn’t anything it can’t handle.
Sorry Jacob, I don’t have the files. I am going to recreate them, so if I do I will post them on thingaverse I had a friend create and print the files for me and he no longer has the original file.
The headers I built myself(taught myself how to weld on this bike), the mufflers are actually stock off a Harley Sportster(with all baffles intact). I tried some open RUSH slip ons that were open pipes but the bike didn’t run or start as well, the V45 really likes the back pressure. And “side box”? You mean the breather? I used the airbox off the Honda Saber.
The only piece I can send a link to is the plenum..(breather box), it is actually off a 1982 Sabre…. I 3D printed the extensions and then custom built the filter holders out of plate aluminum. www.ebay.ca/itm/362610718400
I actually had a friend create them for me, so sadly I don’t have the files. I am planning on doing a few more 3D printed projects for the bike and a few other things so I might re-create them and post.
Originally I had stock pipes off a Harley Davidson, but have recently replaced them with 2 3/4” slip ons by RUSH. I built the custom headers and pipes because the originals(including the collector)were beyond repair and I wanted a louder, deeper sound than stock.
On the first few runs the carbs needed to be synced so that might be it. I’ve since synced them and it runs smoother. But it is definitely running on all 4.
@Chas Carlson Sometimes the truth is harsh. In this case, the builder is far better off restoring the bike to original specs, since he lacks artistic talent.
