should we have kids ? or is going child-free a happier life ?
after receiving over 5 000 comments on my previous video about why i don't want kids, i figured it was time for an update on the topic ! ever since then, i have been enjoying a kid-free lifestlye and i couldn't be happier !
(despite some pretty offended and comment makers and haters on my last video, yikes o_O )

I wanted to have 5 kids when i was younger,than my brother was born and i changed my mind to one children.Now you made me reconsider even one kiddo.No kids sounds like a realixing life.A never ending life of working,money independent student with the love of her life at her side.Puss puss to you too🥰🥰❤️

As far as I know, I never want kids. I don't know if I'll change my mind, but it doesn't seem to change. I prefer to concentrate on my career, travel and do what I really like! I think it's stress I don't want to handle. Anyway, some of my friends want some, I'll see them a little bit, it will be enough! ;)

Yes this made me so sad 😔I m mother of young adults they are single and no kids. I hope one day they dont have to make list for wanting/or not being parent. It s unfair. As a mother I wish all adults feel free be or not to be parent. I dont wanna hear any explanation so unrespectful for me in their names. Shame on who put any pressure to an adult be parent 😔

When I told my older sister who has 2 kids her self I didn't want kids she said I was being "selfish". It's my life and my happiness I think I can be selfish once in a while.

No children - what gives your life meaning? One child - only one? Aren't you worried that they will be spoilt? Two children - are you a tight knit household? Three child plus - that's a handful/too many Society will judge no matter what you decide to do with your life 🤷🏻‍♀️

They can be as much care as a child. I see people walking dogs in all weather and carrying poo bags to collect their poo. I am not the type that wants to carry hot dog poo home. Then where do you leave them when traveling, they shed all over and may shred your shoes and furniture.

I have an anxiety disorder and I'm pretty sure I would be the crazy over controlling mother and building a healthy relationship with my child would be impossible so i'm saying NO KIDS

My childhood was not a happy time for me, being that I was painfully shy. And growing up I never had good examples around me of happy couples. So you never wanted kids

Adoption is extremely expensive in America. I don't know about other countries but it costs an average $30k-$50k to adopt a child unless you're a foster parent then the cost goes down quite a bit but you still pay. I'm an adoptee and my parents said they paid every month for me and my sister until we were 18. Adoption has become a huge industry in America. I went on to have my own bio kids without planning to and that's when I was in my late 30s.

@Julia A Well, first of all, I said I don't want kids NOW, but I might in the future. The fact that I would like to adopt instead of giving birth myself, does not mean I'm not capable of loving a child. If you watched the video, you've heard Jenny mention she struggles taking care of someone else, even her partner. I do not. Almost anyone can get pregnant, but becoming a good parent and having a healthy relationship with your child is another thing and it does not come naturally to everyone. I see adoption as giving someone a chance in better life. Especially, in a post soviet country that I come from, where situation in institutional care is terrible. (plenty of documentaries on the matter) And I'm aware of the chalenges that might occur, but you don't automatically prevent your child from having psychological or behavioural problems just by giving birth yourself.

I just turned 37. Never wanted kids. In my family I'm still considered immature because in their videogame-like mind having kids is the only way to "upgrade" to adult-level.

My 13 year old, out of the blue, asked me the other day, ‘what if I don’t want to have kids ever’? I told her that it was totally fine and she should do what she feels is right. The same goes for marriage.

I am a 50 YO successful child-free female scientist and feel exactly the same about every single point you offered. I adore my husband, cat, horse and trainees and my life. I never wanted to have kids and have never regretted it. And to those who do have kids: rock on! Do what makes you happy. It's all good.

It's called "Shared Misery" People look down on you for not having kids simply out of envy. I their real world, they are not happy with their decisions but will justify them by saying have it's the greatest thing they ever did. Ugh!!

I agree. The problem is, being a parent is a lifestyle and that is pretty much the only lifestyle advertised in society. Nobody knows what to do with themselves if they had no kids. You look around you and that is the only thing you see. So it takes a really strong person with a deep desire not to have kids to make that decision for themselves.

I hated it when people asked me if I have kids & they are surprised when I say no I never ask anyone if they have kids. Why? For one I don't care & two it's really none of my business.

:D png file. Good one. From the other hand, I think that if I had two mothers that could really affect my mental health in some way or another. And don't get me wrong it's not about mothers themselves more about pressure from society, other kids making fun of it, identity crisis. IDK. So maybe bringing a kid to this type of environment, not the best idea. It obviously depends on where you live and other factors.

@@makeback6194 You definitely can't have both! Haha. I knew when I was 17 that it wasn't for me. I enjoy children but I'd worry too much! Finally people have stopped telling me I'll change my mind. I have never regretted my decision. The more 'we' talk openly, the more women will feel that it's acceptable to not choose children. I think alot of people have them because it seems like the normal expected thing to do.

When my wife and I see children throwing a huge tantrum in a store we always run to the nearest exit and are reminded why we don't ever want kids. When we go out to eat and if we are seated at a table near a bunch of kids we always ask if they can seat us somewhere else or we leave. We live our lives by our own expectations and not anyone else's. We are very happy with our child free life and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

And just like yachts, it's still costs more than you could imagine. Apparently the yearly maintenance of a yacht is approximately 20% of the total value of that yacht. 20% every year!!!!

@Whitney Titus That's such a smart way to go. Later there are loads more expenses that you just can't escape. I see that parents can really get by like you do for a good few years when the child is just absorbing their surrounds and anything is a toy or an adventure. You are making the most of this period of time!!! I'm impressed it's your first child, more commonly parents want everything just perfect and spend big, but children don't care. They will when they start high school though, haha! Spend money when it counts. Best of luck to you and yours. x

Our goal is to buy a house on the beach one day. I'd rather spend $500K on a beachfront property than a child that isn't guaranteed to turn out to be a decent adult; but I can guarantee the view will be worth it.

I have a 3 week old baby and I waited until 34 to have him. For anyone who doesn't want kids, don't have them. You should really want kids if you are going to have them because they are a lot of work and can be very expensive. I know people who have kids who didn't really want kids and they really hated the baby stage and are kind of mean to their kids. However, if you do want kids, having them is a totally amazing experience and worth the work and financial investment. Everyone has to make their own choice and there is no wrong or right way to live your life. I for one was criticised quite a bit for waiting to have kids because my husband and I were together for 14 years before having our first baby. But, it was right for us and you need to do what is right for you.

Hi! This comment resonated with me. I am starting to feel like one child might be the best option for me too, someday. The financial aspect is definitely important. I'm 26 and definitely not having any for a long while. Also, I have been with my bf since I was 20, too and even though we were (and still are) too young to have kids, everyone expects us to. But for us it's gonna be like another 10 years, too.

It's good to not start trying to conceive earlier than when you really feel like you want to. So I think you did the right thing! People will always criticize eachother. I was very young married and had my oldest son at a young age, people had a lot of comments about that. I believe it's important to wait until you really want a child. If that moment never comes, than that's also fine. Just follow your own path.

As a kid whose parents were older (ie. not in their 20s compared to many peers), I think it has their benefits! Your relationship is solid, you know each other well, more financially stable, and you have much more life experience to pass on!

A woman once said: "I would love to be a dad. Not having your body ruined, going to work when it gets too much, being the fun parent who does not have to be so serious and concerned." This relates so much with me. I don't want to get pregnant and ruin my body as I already have serve mental health issues regarding it and I KNOW I could not handle my body getting saggy, sore and jiggly. I don't want to be the bad parent who has to destroy the fun times for safety on my own.

I have a son, he's 19, and I adore him...but I absolutely support and understand people who don't want kids..I've told him not once "enjoy life, don't have kids"😎...and especially I don't like when women say "I'm a mother, that's enough for me", it's so sad..I AM a mother, but I'm also sooo much more than just that!

And I say " In time, am not ready yet" but on the other side, most of my age mates ring me to borrow money, it always the same old story ," hey man, can I borrow some cash?, the baby is sick or, the baby has drained me completely". So for me, no kids not even in the next life.

Respect. I have one child who is 4. I only want one child. My family, friends and even strangers are mad that he doesn't have a sibling. Sometimes when people ask if I want another child I say "No one is enough. I'm happy with one" then they are insulted. We can't please everyone nor do we have to. End rant. Lol

So true! I have a chronic disease and only can have one kid because of it. Everything else would be irresponsible for my health. Some people even say that I shouldn’t have any kids if I just can have one. What a joke. People are cruel sometimes.

I also only have one, I had her when I was young and now I have a slew of health issues so I don’t plan on having any more. At every single freaking get together the number one most repeated question I get is when am I having another. When I reply that I’m happy with one, I get so many varying responses from pity, to anger to unwarranted questioning (i.e. marital problems? Financial problems?) as if it’s anyone’s business. I’m tired of it, I really am and have asked on multiple occasions to stop being asked. It’s exhausting. People are so aggressive when it comes down to instilling their beliefs on you. It’s difficult to deal with at times.

I was a kindergarten teacher and now I'm studying to become a play therapist. I wouldn't have been able to be a great mum and be a great teacher at the same time. It didn't feel right to bring a new child into this world when I could instead put my energy into helping children who are already with us who are in need.

You would be much more of an egoist if wanting to bring a child to this world - To take care of you when YOU 're old - To ''cover'' a traumatic situation YOU 've experienced - To prove YOU had a fairy tale childhood YOU should replicate - To not lose (YOU again) a random ''future spouse'' * Why you people can't accept there are millions of worlds out of yours? ** The ''one'' is not promised by this life to anyone. So if you meet him/her, the exact thing that will make him/her ''the one'' will be the fact that he/she will totally respect you.

I'm 28, childfree and it's a seriously underrated way to live. I think most people don't even know what it's like to reach this age without being someone's anything. If they knew I think they wouldn't be feeling as sorry for me as they seem to be doing now I can tell you that. I also think it's quite funny how people complain about not having time/money/sex/the body they would like/the life they saw for themselves/the marriage they were hoping to have after having children. But in the same breathe judge you for passing on the drama. It always makes me chuckle a bit.

I wish women didn't have to justify why they don't want kids. I remember when I turned 17 and my grandmother was pestering me about how she had two kids at 17 and I didn't even have a boy friend 😕 I wish people just let others live their best life. Kids aren't the ultimate goal of life, living your life should be the ultimate goal. Thank you for making this video and I hope someday soon people will stop pestering others about their choices. I thought I might change my mind but we are 3 years further now and with 39 running out of time... I haven't changed my mind and I have to tell him now... He will leave... For '' YOURSELF'' because it suited '' YOU'' regardless of what your husband wanted, I see why many child free women are labelled as profoundly selfish and deeply self centered as they put them selves above everything else , but as I say, selfishness isn't really a bad thing, as long as nobody gets hurt, but I can't help feeling your your ex husband who seems to have wanted a child, grandparents are also denied here.

Sometimes I just think that people don’t put much thought into it and just follow the basic nature. Children is such an enormous responsibility and they need so much time, money, energy, love, patience and skill. It must be only a personal choice and should be done only when and if the person is ready for that. And most of all I don’t understand people who have children expecting someone else to take care of them.

honestly I never wanted kids and even though I'm only 21 everyone is shocked when I say I don't want kids. I am literally so scared of accidentially having kids that I freak out when my period is even a day late even though I always use contraception. I also get nightmares every time I see a friend of mine get pregnant or watch a movie related to pregnancy and having children.

21 is too young to say you 'never' wanted to have kids. I'm 50 don't have kids, never wanted them too crazy and I'm fine even happy I don't have them. But it all depends on what life brings. Just live your life as naturally and honestly as you can don't make black and white decisions. Wait to see what it brings. It is not all up to you.

@@dailybls of course I can change my mind later on but it doesn't mean my current decision is invalid. People might want kids and change your mind later on too (hopefully before they have some 😅). I'm just saying that there is no guarantee that I will change my mind and want kids in future, maybe I will, maybe I won't but telling me now that I will definitely want kids in the future and my current opinion doesn't matter is rude and condescending. There is no guarantee that I will change my mind so unless I'm literally about to have my tubes tied/cut (which I don't think I'm even allowed to do yet) I don't want my decision questioned. I think it makes more sense to question people on the reason they want kids and if they are actually ready for it before they have them because that it a much more impactful decision that involves multiple people than not having kids.

make sure your sexual health is good and visit Planned Parenthood if you can. Deal with your anxiety by making sure you have checked all your boxes. I personally opted for Mirena because I know I am not ready now.

I have three children, and I'm happy with that! However, it isn't for everyone. I think that if someone knows that parenthood isn't for them, they should be respected. Sometimes it is just a personal choice, and other times it is because their own childhood was dysfunctional and traumatic, or their physical health won't allow it. We don't know everyone's story, so why do we laser focus on their family planning like it is our business?

I saw how my older siblings tortured my parents. I am terrified of how horrible kids can turnout to be. I also had friends who wished to leave their parents as soon as possible because they didn't give them enough freedom to have as much fun as they want ( all adults btw).

The option to have children (naturally at least) was cruelly taken away from me at 23. I think I was angry at loosing the choice rather than the children. At 33, I now feel that I am truly happy with a man who has no desire to have children. It was like, the minute he said he never wants children, a weight was lifted and we live a very full and happy life ❤️Agree with every single point, love your content as usual Jenny and David ! Xx

I don't want to have kids either, or get married - I'm such a weirdo! I just love my freedom and aloneness too much - and the peace and quiet. Can't stand how noisy and demanding small children are. I've got too much anxiety, I couldnt handle it. All the people I know who have kids always seem so stressed and just complain about their children. I have a cat baby though who I love :) The world is so overpopulated its actually sad that some people have so many kids. Why not adopt a child or pet and help the planet out rather then contributing to its destruction.

If it helps you to have company, I cannot have kids (and I also don't want kids). I love them but I don't want them. So I focus on that. Otherwise people think of you as an infertile woman, poor thing. Nah!! There are so many exciting alternative lifestyles other than parenthood. And there are many non-biological mothering roles too.

I am almost 37 and with my husband we also decided not to have kids. Basically, for the same reasons you mentioned. Morever, from a very early age (about 6 years) I had to take care for my brother because both of the parents were working. When I finally got my freedom, I want to keep it. It's still hard to find a respect for that decision among family and friends, though. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Sometimes i feel pressured to want them because other people may find me egoistic (?) to not have them, but i find life overwhelming as it already is, and taking care of a being that completely relies on me is a responsibility i do not want. When I was 17, I knew a few 40 something's that didn't have kid's. They were very happy. I knew then it was a no brainer. Made my decision permanent @ 22. ( not married + no kid's ) Now, retired @ 58 and have a part time job I love, life is great. A lot of people my age are giving their grown kid's money and/or raising their grandkid's.

I’m 72 & have two grown kids. If I was 20 yrs old today, I’d say no to kids. We no longer have famine and disease in first-world countries. These countries are no longer agrarian economies. Children are no longer a “resource”; they cost $$$$. Think about the economic and environmental impact of having kids. I understand the urge to reproduce, and it should be respected. That said, this is another area where moderation is required. Think, plan & be mindful about what is not only good for you personally, but what’s good for mankind and the planet.

Sweetheart, I'm 58 and never had kids. Never wanted to raise one, although I adore them when they belong to someone else. When some women (it's really always women, I think that's because men don't feel pressured to be paternal), ask how many kids I have, because they're certain that I must have wanted them but couldn't, after hearing my answer they often assume there was some kind of physical problem. The good thing is that more and more mothers are chill about it, they love their kids and can't imagine live without them but understand my choice. I volunteer twice a week at a school for special needs/special circumstance kids (autism, Down's Syndrome and just plain poor) and I love them, REALLY love them.... but am so happy to get into my car alone and go home listening to a podcast coming home and taking my dog for a hike, doing some homework while my man fixes dinner, and doing whatever else I want. I agree with all your reasons, Jenny, and have a similar life... and I'm old enough to be your mom. You are living in a great time in history for women. We have choices. I salute thinking women who know themselves and what is right for them, whether that means raising kids or not. You do you.

Best thing I never did. I didn't have a good example and feel I've broken an inherited bad cycle. Now 60; retired. Have travelled and will do more. Had a great entrepreneurial career. Still a landlady with passive income. Avoid the F.O.G. fear, obligation, guilt.

My mum advised me that you need to really want kids because you will have occasional moments of wonderful mixed in with mostly hard, stressful, exhausting, frustrating, thankless work. And that's assuming the children are born with no health problems. My mother is one of the really good mothers, too! I help look after the children already in the world and that's enough for me. I'm fortunate that my family have never pressured me. I would even dare to say if you are not sure, don't! So there!!

Same! After 7 years in a relationship, I am at a point where I can't imagine myself ever having my own child, no matter how much I enjoy volunteering at schools & playgroups. My boyfriend is at a point where he says "I can't deal with babies, but adopting a 7 year old upwards, why not?"

May Rose if you are on the fence, then don’t have them. They are such a responsibility and so much work that only if they are your biggest dream and priority should you jump into all of that

Part of me thinks the reason some other woman attack us for not wanting kids is because they miss their pre-kid life and they're jealous. Why else would you attack someone else on their life choice that isn't harming anyone?

well im a mum of three grown kids but if i could do things again i wouldnt have any kids dont get me wrong i love my kids more than life but years ago it was the norm get married have kids etc etc if you didnt people thought something was wrong with you, if i was younger now i wouldnt have any id like to travel and do something with my life , im nearly 50 and ill due to having a hard single mums life so no chance for me to do the things i wanted to do now, i think its great that women like you are saying stop its my life my body and i decide what i want in life and are not pushed into it by others, love you videos and pod casts

@@janahcoaching Yo she just said she is ill from having a hard life as a single Mom. Probably also strapped for cash. Combine the two and it is probably not as easy for her as it is for a 20 something in good health with financial means or parents that help support them.

I have recently just had a kid. Didn't want one prior to this. However, now I do, I can't say I am "happier '. All the things u mention are very true, the sleep deprivation, the absolute chaos messyness of the house, no focus and NO time for your partner. So those things do happen when h have kids, I can vouch for it! I know I will be more content when the newborn phase passes however. But kudos to your decision and I don't know why anyone would criticise, I mean it's ur decision and everything u say is not a lie! Enjoy your self and ur partner :)

@K M oh I know that don't u worry. All I'm saying is stating the realities of having a newborn! Not saying that it should be about me - I don't want it to be about me. That left the day he was born and I don't expect it to be any different for the next 20 years! What I'm saying in my comment is that her concerns about having a baby and how it changes life is true! So that's why unless ur prepared to go through all that, then one should think twice aboht having one. And as she states in the video, she isn't prepared to do that, and that's her prerogative

@K M lol that's exactly one of the reasons I refuse to have kids. I want it to be all about me! It's my life after all! My parents made their entire lives about raising kids and I always knew it wasn't what I wanted.

@K M Yeah, I've had enough heartbreak and challenges in life already and don't want more that I can prevent. I don't handle stress well nor do I want more responsibilities that never end. Many women are fooled into thinking it will pay off and it will be worth it. When it doesn't work out for you, people don't know what to say besides well it worked out for me and people I know. Parents love their kids more than the kids love them. Not to mention the horrors of childbirth, most of the work being dumped on moms, losing your identity, freedom, and the cost. As far as leaving a part of you here, a legacy, passing down genes, etc. these are all outdated reasons to have kids that sadly people still think are valid. If you have a kid that creates a miserable life for you all those reasons go out the door very quickly. Also, that kid can choose not to have children in the future so there goes the legacy.

I think the reason is because when you fall in love, it makes you reconsider since logic goes out the window, that's how nature works. Some end up compromising in order not to lose that person from their life. You can avoid this by being up front from the beginning that you don't want kids.

I was adopted and had a great life. I decided when I was in my teens that I don't want to have kids. When I'm ready, I want to adopt older kids that have been difficult to place for whatever reason... (most couples want babies so the older kids stay in foster care) I have recieved really bizarre responses... I'm selfish. If I can get pregnant I should coz millions of woman have fertility issues and I should feel blessed I don't have issues. Don't I want to SEE myself and my partner IN my child? Um don't care if they have my nose. I will SEE myself in them in other ways. I will be raising them. And my personal favorite... they wont REALLY be yours... you wont really be a mom...🙄🙈 Just bizarre.

Thats a very noble cause giving a home to children who have had it rough your amazing and as you already know adopted kids are just as much of the family as biological ones. My dad was adopted and his unbiological sister as my granny couldn't have children. They also had a great childhood with loving parents. I couldn't do what your planning I'd be a terrible mum I just have no patience what so ever for kids and I can't stand their high pitched voices or their need to be constantly in your personnal space asking questions. I have animals instead. I want to adopt animals that have had a hard time.

There wasn't a single period in human history when all females had babies. There were always aunts, nuns etc. who just never gave birth. And so I just don't understand the preasure in last few centuries. Even in nature it's not common that every single female has an offspring. Some are just not meant to multiply. Which doesn't matter they can't be useful to the society in many other different ways.

About how much you saved by not having kids: one kid cost around 300 000 euros until it's 18th birthday. That's a beautiful over 100m2 house in the city (in many cities) where I live. You're welcome 😊😊

It's actually scary how many women don't even realise that it's an option. I'm 52 and have been very happily married for 28 years, with no children and we are both blissfully happy with our decision to not have kids, for all of the same reasons as you. We're happy being the Cool Uncle and Aunty who spend 2 months a year traveling overseas! Thank you so much again for spreading the word that being childfree is actually a fantastic lifestyle choice for people who don't feel the need to breed. The more that we talk about it openly and honestly, hopefully the more it will normalise and remove the stigma from it! Puss puss from Australia. 💗

My friend's story illustrates how women are always doing things wrong in some people's eyes: she had her first baby out of wedlock, she was 20, had to stop uni, relationship with bf on the rocks. Oh, how everyone pointed fingers at her and listing all the things she did wrong. She got back with her bf, got married when their son was 6, everyone around her nagging how she must have another child so the first one is not lonely (and she is suffering miscarriages in silence). Finally, gave birth to a baby girl and 'experts' got of her back. But then, she had the audacity to get pregnant with her third child at 34,and all aunties swarmed around her lamenting, how unfortunate it is and what will she do if her husband would leave her with three children... So, yes, let's just judge women's reproductive steps all the way, because it's not like they have body autonomy or anything like that. Ugh!

I'm 27 and dont want kids but I never tell people that so I dont have to hear those peoples annoying rebuttles. I say, yeah, just not right now. And they only say oh ok! hahaha easy way out. I'll keep saying that so people will leave me alone. It's none of their business anyway.

THANK YOU for sharing this video. Sometimes it feels like not wanting to have children is like an unpopular opinion. Everybody in my social environment wants/has children, I don't know any family that is childless. But I agree to ALL of your points. You know, I'm still too young to start a family, but I already know that I don't want to (sure, my opinion can change over the time, but I guess it won't). Women are always "abnormal" when they don't have children (at least, that's what most of the society thinks). It's not that I don't like children, I actually love kids, I even want to become a teacher. But a life with own children isn't something for me. I know that I have to face a lot of pressure about this topic from other people but they shouldn't care about my decision if it makes me happier! Again, thank you for this video, makes me feel less alone with my opinion!

I don't understand why people think she is selfish. She is not. She would be selfish if she had kids and act like she is acting now. So she knows what she wants and she is not damaging anyone, she is happy with her self and she is also helping other people, so a big RESPECT for her.

For the last ten years my husband and I thought we would have a child some day. Last year my brother had his first child. When we visit them she‘s super funny and I like playing with her ... but there was this one day I thought ‚thank god Im going home‘ and then we knew NO KIDS FOR US. Two months ago we adopted a ten year old dog from romania - shes my baby and shes quite, I can leave her alone for some hours, I love going for a loooong walk and dont have to talk .... and shes coming to work with me!

Hi there! I have been a nanny for almost 4 years, PLEASE, if you do not want kids DO NOT HAVE THEM. Kids are a tough job, not a keyring, so if you feel that you do not want them or that your life is good as it is, it’s ok. I love kids, and as having three siblings I always said that I wanted to have two kids at least, but after having the experience working with them, the day to day work, I know that one will be more than enough, and I do not care about what people say about only child or whatever, it’s my life and I choose. We should stop comparing and judging, specially to women when it comes about kids, marriage and all the shebang. We are free to choose the life that we want to live and not to the expectations of others. Love your video Jenny. ❤️
