"Luxury finish" -- this sounds like designer speak for "hard to keep clean". Which is what I think when I see marble countertops, marble backsplashes, lamps with linen shades sitting on kitchen counters, cabinets with trim, ornate hardware, or cloth upholstery on kitchen chairs and bar stools.

Marble isn't difficult to keep clean. You can always get quartz that looks like marble.

Who has time to constantly clean the kitchen? This is why we have doors and cabinets - they're so much easier to keep clean, you also know when you take out plates, glasses or utensils they're clean to use.

I love the marble look! I especially loved the photo that had the lamps on the kitchen island. It really made it feel homier to me. I have lamps in my kitchen on either side between the counter and upper cabinets. It is so calming to turn off the overhead lights and just have the lamps on low in the early morning and late into the evening.

Yes, farmhouse trend is well and truly on its way out in Australia! We’ve had flat/slab cabinets showing up for a little while already. Most people I know here love the clean, minimalism look, with natural materials. Love all your videos, Valentina 💗

Does anyone else ever think about the sustainability of marble and other stones we use in large slab form in our homes? Like when will we run out of available stone to mine? Will future generations look back at us, aghast/amazed how we mined all the marble for our impermanent homes?

I've had my slab front cabinets for 20 years. I just make my kitchen look luxurious by using nice appliances. It's adaptable because its just melts into the background. It's also easier to wipe clean.

I inherited a 1940s brick bungalow with a 1950s kitchen. Never been updated. The cabinets are slab front wood. I ran through many options in my head as to how to update the small kitchen while still maintaining a mcm vibe as there is a lot of mcm furniture in the house. I decided to paint the cabinet housing white and refresh the wood stain on the drawers and cabinet fronts-so still wood but new stain as the old stain is looking tired. I'm going to DIY this part. All the appliances still work and they are from 1953!! I even found all the original manuals. So I'm keeping the cook top, the hood, the refrigerator, and the mint green oven. I am putting my Reno money on new hardware, countertops, backsplash, sink, faucet, and lighting. I think it's going to look beautiful and right in character with the house and also modern. Don't want to live in a museum. Do want character and uniqueness. Saw several inspirational pictures in your video that I can use for my vision. Thank you.

Loving many of the new twists on the classics, like flat front cabinets, the beautiful woods and the use of modern lighting . I do think we will turn a corner and see the use of expansive marble is dated because it can be a dictator in the space.

I love all the marble and clean lines. It might be difficult to keep clean on countertops though. I ordered a large marble coffee table a few months ago and it's finally on its way. Matching coasters too of course. I can't wait to style it up. You're such an inspiration...all black and white everything please!! The first time I saw flat-front/slab doors with no hardware was over 30 years ago in my German neighbor's home. They were imported and they were beautiful. My favorite kitchens have the "I love to cook, but not in an institutional setting." look. And, because kitchen are one of the most expensive rooms in the home, I want quality things that become more beautiful with age (Think old European.) versus those that are short-lived and fadish. I loved a lot of your ideas and the lighting category really caught my attention, because it's a relatively easy switch that can produce a big impact. Thank you, Valentina!

Careful, these trends are generally pretentious and trying to achieve pretentiousness without a skilled designer could be disastrous. The minute I did shaker cabinets in 2002 I wanted flat fronts. Sigh... Less is more will last longer.

I'm building a custom traditional home, that has a tumeless design, and I choose the shaker style front, to keep it so. It has got a cleanline style thar I've liked since I was a child. So now that I'm actually building my dream home, I'm doing it in my FABULOUS kitchen. However, I'm having the flat front cabinet doors in my kitchenette upstairs... My favorite brass is unlacquered!!!

I love the lighting 😍. I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation and I have decided to go with flat front cabinets with no hardware, I prefer it, less things to hit your legs on. I also have ordered black lights for my peninsula. No open shelves. I'm not a fan of the statement marble, I prefer the calacata or Carrara, more subtle veining 😍

So excited to hear that slab or flat front cabinets are coming back in - we're in the process of purchasing another home which has slab front cabinets. They are in great shape but are an unfortunate glossy orangey wood and my husband was ready to tear it all out --- but I think with an excellent black or white paint job we can end up with a fantastic looking kitchen -- and have more room in the budget for expensive appliances - or more marble! Hi V, coming from Australia 🇦🇺, Hamptons style is very much on trend here , I’m seeing a lot of new builds around my area plus people renovating their homes more Hamptons style, my home is a little Hamptons but I still have some pieces of decor that have been handed down to me that aren’t Hamptons but I make them work in my home, but I think it’s not your typical Hamptons style like living in the Hamptons, probably has a more coastal feel about it also. I really dislike all the marble. It’s like the granite explosion. Ugh. Cold. Impersonal. I’m such a traditional person, though. I love gallery walls everywhere. Variety is the spice of life! We are all unique and have different tastes. A lot of us evolve as far as our taste in decor goes. My taste is the opposite of yours, and that’s ok! My home is soothing to me, although you might think it’s “cold”. Gallery walls and lots of color and stuff all over stresses me out. 🤷‍♀️ I can appreciate the beauty in others homes, though, even if it’s not “me”. It’s funny how we can all see things so differently!

When remodeling a home we bought 9 years ago I wanted flat painted or lighter wood cabinets. My husband had a fit ( he’s old fashioned ) so we ended up with darker furniture type cabinetry. I wanted to mix flat cabinets along with the furniture type front...didn’t end up doing that either. They are beautiful but not what I wanted. My cabinet designer was of no help. I’m wanting to replace the sconces with something brighter...I think that would help.

Oh thats so funny. Im in the Uk, my last 2 kitchens have been slab front and handleless and now I moved to the seaside I wanted something more relaxed and got, guess what? shaker and cup handles😂Talk about being backwards! So our house was a modpodge build. Our kitchen ceiling slopes from the standard 8' (96") to just 80". It's also not a large space and I have a family. We felt closed cabinetry would make the ceiling feel even shorter than it already is on the one side. Therefore we made the decision to do open shelving. Not just because it was the "it" look, but it's more functional for our space and family.

I follow my personal trends that make me feel comfortable, the same way you feel in your home. Trends… my trends are based on the style of my home. We live in a a Tuscan style community. Five builder creating five different looks but Tuscan style. I don’t like the old world look, so I have an updated modern Tuscan design in my home. I have had slab front cabinets for 14 years. Why, that is what I like. 👏🏻 ❤️🤍💚

I was wondering if marble in the kitchen needs to be sealed regularly because of staining or yellowing. The look of fluted islands are visually beautiful, but cleaning the accumulated grease that will naturally occur in a kitchen might make cleaning and up keep a challenge. Can you tell that I do my own cleaning in my home? Lol. But the example you showed us got me drooling, they were so scrumptious. Thanks!

We are working on our kitchen at the moment, I do love the marble back flash and counter but I have a small kitchen too much, we are doing counter quartz and the back flash opal green blue teal to make the back flash statement piece then two tone cabinets white and light cool gray with white floor tile

This was fun! I never liked the open shelving look. Appliances and dishes and mugs are not things I want to see out in the open everyday and it seems more special when you don’t see them and take them out when you need them. And I’ve always loved the marble look in small doses. I always wanted marble counters. One day! 😄 I do like the wood cabinets plus the colors aren’t outdated now.

Thank goodness I picked a beautiful granite when we redid our kitchen. Unfortunately, I have a beautiful bathroom with marble. Marble is a royal pain in the backside to keep up with. I can’t imagine trying to keep it looking great in a working kitchen

I am a glam/nature girl and have been my whole life. It’s like having a split personality - but in a good way. I have modern (simple) cabinets with silestone “marble” tops (easier to maintain and more practical for a person who actually cooks). Wood accents and artisan pottery/serving pieces. My husband calls it eclectic but I call it artsy. I try for lovely (handmade items), live (flowers or plants) and lux (punches of art). BTW, flat cabinets are very European. They are everywhere. It’s the practicality.

Yes! My husband and I actually cook in our kitchen. He is not big on maintainence so there is no way I would have true marble in our kitchen. He'd set a cut lemon on it, day one.

I have wanted slab flat front cabinets for a long time, with marble-look quartz waterfall island, countertops and backsplash. But my husband will spend $20k on solar panels but balks at spending any money on anything. I really should put a plan and costs on paper and present a design board with costs together for him to sign off on. We've been in our home for 22 years. Linda

Though your information is interesting, I could not help but notice every picture you showed of kitchen trends was contemporary. I would think most people are dealing with traditional style kitchens. Unless you are building a new home, you usually buy a older home and the kitchen style comes with it, (like it or not). Also, though beautiful, the materials in the kitchen pictures look very high end. Most likely out of many home owners budgets. I would like to see you address how to update an older kitchen into the trends you mentioned without breaking the bank. Good video as to what is coming up. The problem with trends, is they do not last long. Better to stick with timeless styles.

I hate looking at stuff that I’m not using. It’s just clutter. I really love marble, having done one of our bathrooms with marble, it looks so clean and luxurious.

We are just finishing up a major kitchen remodel. My husband is a cabinet maker, so he built our cabinets. Lots of drawers, European style cabinets (no faceframes!). We are having granite countertops installed soon. My cabinets are natural cherry, which will oxidize and darken over the next few years and is luxurious in my opinion. We did go with shaker style doors since my hubby wanted glass inserts in quite a few of the doors. I would have loved slab doors. They are my favorite. And so easy to maintain! My cabinets have no doors on them until the granite is installed - afraid the installers will scratch them. So I've basically had open shelving for over 2 months and everything is soooo dusty. I'm going to have to dust everything once the new tops are in. Yuck.

Great ideas. Kitchen appliances and fixtures are becoming high tech, so I agree that modern, minimalist, slab sided cabinets and clean lines will complement the technology. The statement marble and brass are too dominating, though.

Isn’t marble kinda a horrible stone for a kitchen counter? From what i was told is doesn’t hold up to all the ins and outs of cooking.

Yes! I have seen many designers talk about how marble stains easily and is not something for people( like me) who want perfect looking counter tops. There are people who love an imperfect look and think of stains and scratches and flaws give “character”. So it really depends on what you want to deal with. 🤷‍♀️
