This was so interesting! I've been an audio book nerd since Audible started, and I've wondered a lot of the same things. Excellent interview, Alexa!

This is such fantastic timing! I've literally just downloaded the Ivies Audiobook [really looking forward to it] and I decided this morning I wanted to look into narration. Also its always exciting to see a new video

Thanks Alexa! This is so fascinating! I have been hoping to read for my own audio book. This gives me a ton of food for thought.

This was great, Alexa. One thing I’ve always wondered about audiobooks is how narrators handle “raw” language. My psychological thriller is set in a state mental hospital. Both the residents and staff have potty mouths. For the most part, the young protagonist is rather naive. Amazon has suggested that I turn this into an audiobook, but this one issue has me baffled.

Considering some of the "spicier" books I listen to, I'd say it shouldn't be a problem 😘

I am subscribed and have notifications turned on, but didn't get a notif for this video. Anyways, thank you Alexa for doing this. Really interesting, as I have recently embraced audiobooks, which has opened a whole new world of reading for me.

Alexa, advice for writing for audiobooks? When I write I'm aware of how my words will sound when read aloud. I've found myself changing the wording to avoid confusing homonyms. Am I overthinking this?

Everyone needs a Beyonce fan This is more of a "Lets talk about my book" than actually interviewing the narrator

My burning, burning question about audio books is... what do you they do when they mess up? Do they have to re-read the entire chapter (? presumably not), the whole paragraph (? perhaps?) or do they just do from the line? Also, how often do they cut the recordings? Is it like film where they can piece together a scene from multiple different takes, or do you have to have a clear run through? Honestly, just the *mechanics* of it all is fascinating.

I don't know what it's like in a studio because I record at home, but some do what is called a punch and roll where you just go back and re-record over the mistake and continue on. I use a dog clicker, where if I flub something I hit the dog clicker and it makes a spike on the waveform and then I'll go back when done and just edit the mistakes out.

@@Laura_DiNunno interesting! Thanks for replying. Audio books seem to just pop into the air - unlike filming, or even recording songs - there's not much information about how they actually come to be.

read the messed-up word or sentence and swap it with editing. i recently worked with a voice-over artist for an ebook and that's what she did.

I've always wanted to do voice narration , but I have a "younger" Tennessee/Southern girl voice. I do well with annunciation, but I don't know that I could ever completely remove the Southern out of my voice 😏
