This is a long video, but if you want to learn about vintage 1911s (this video could easily apply to many modern 1911s) it is worth a watch. During the reassembly of the .45 acp 1911 I got one of the Gopro angles off by about 1.5 seconds. Sorry.

Very nice video! I recently bought from an estate sale 1944 Ithaca in all original condition and the owners grandfather was in the Air corps. The gun never went through rearmoring. The frame doesn't even have JCA cartoosh by the mag release. I just did a complete rebuild of the gun as you did however i used varsal to clean the frame and slide and blew dry them. For safety all the springs were replaced as well as the firing pin and the extractor as it was damaged. You didn't mention anything about the extractor adjustment? Again great video i just subscribed ✌️👍

Very interesting. It's obvious you know what you are doing. Id be interested in seeing something like this with an FN1900. They are historically significant pistols. Thanks for putting this together.

Do you guys ever come across any SIG P226's where the grip screw threads in the frame are stripped out? I've never taken the grips off my P226 (W. German mfg'd) and one day they started coming loose after shooting it. On closer inspection, the screws appeared to be OK, but the threads on the frame came out w/ the screws like the screws had been overtightened or something. Any chance you could post up a repair of this sort?

Thank you, Ray. I really appreciate this video. I also appreciate your intelligent vocabulary and grammar. Not something you always see on many RU-vid videos. Informative and helpful.

One finds it curious (moi, that's who) that neither weapon showed any barrel corrosion/pitting, of any degree, if they were not cleaned in decades. Wish he would have touched on that aspect...or ERIC had captured some 'bore footage'. Or did I blink & miss both?
@NerdGlassGamingPA
@NerdGlassGamingPA 8 лет назад
I will just speculate that they didn't have any. Because in the beginning he said that they were taken care of but not really well and proper maintaining. So I presume ( since he has been shooting the guns too ) He just cleaned the bore and few other parts but never opened the interior of the guns that much. That's why they were clean in the barrel section.

Thank you, great work. A couple of questions. What would be the next step for a pistol like this? Does one refinish it in any way? The grip panels, is there any way to , in a lack of a better word "reenergize them? Ray mentioned possible dryrot and oildamage. Also the firingpinspring, for a piece like this, does one look for new old stock?

I wish I could have you guys reblue my Remington 1100 it needs some loving, most places around here want an arm and a leg and would make a hell of a video for you guys. How about a Remington Speedmaster 241 (the one that charges and ejects from the bottom) I got a few issues with it and can't seem to get it to run right no matter what I put in it.

Excellent video. Thank you very much for taking the time to make it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a few things I didn't know. You mentioned you'd consider doing other guns if we asked and they were interesting. Would you consider doing a detailed video like this on the Winchester Model 88? I have one that was made in 1955. It could definitelt stand a detailed takedown and cleaning like you show here.

Terrific video for all of us novice 1911 owners, especially with the differrent tricks or tips shown. I'm interested in the spray lubricant used, didn't catch the complete name. Also for a suggestion on other bench gunsmithing videos, how about one on pump shotguns as far as a detail takedown for maintenance/cleaning. I own: Winchester Model 12, Mossberg 500(special purpose) and an Ithaca Model 37 Featheweight. Again thanks for all these great vids. Stay cool, fly low, check six....mutineerlpm

Incredible video, loved every second! Cheers to you Ray and the moss pawn crew. At the begining when removing the grips it was mentioned that they were at least partially saturated with old oils etc. Would baking the grips have been in order? Or was it too risky in this case due to its antique nature? Again excellent video, would love to be a gunsmith someday.

I'm massively interested in videos like this. Thanks for doing it. If you don't mind, could you do a size-by-side takedown of an AR in 5.56 and on in either 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel? I'd like to know more about the differences in gas-capture, bolt weights/ dimensions, and recoil spring differences.

Fantastic video! Very informative. How do original military or other early 1911's compare with modern 1911's (even guns made to resemble issue guns) in terms of assembly/disassembly/basic function? Would you do an in-depth video on the difference between series 70 and series 80 guns (and i hear Kimbers are different than both. . . )? Or perhaps common DIY work that can be done to my R1? ;)
