A Crap Guide to D&D [5th Edition] - Character Sheet 

If you are rolling "Death Saving Throws" when you get 3 saves you are at 0 HP still you are just "Stabilized" and "Unconscious" meaning you don't have to keep rolling saving throws. Rolling a nat 20 will bring you back up at 1 HP but 3 death saves will not. EDIT: This is merely me being a big dork, its a small detail he put a lot into these videos so small hiccups are always going to be a thing. I did not expect this to blow up. JoCat please keep up the amazing work you have inspired me to take up art in the form of 3D animation I hope I can provide back some of the amazing content you have given this community one day!

For those genuinely unsure about the flaws section, I have a quick and easy recommendation: A crippling fear, and a stress response. For your crippling fear you can use thing like fire, or the dark, or the ocean. Or you can try for more exotic and vague ones like your past, or blood, or alcohol, or magic. The magic fear has a slightly more difficult but interesting cousin in the form of casting characters who are specifically afraid of their OWN magic. This works best for sorcerers and warlocks, but you could probably squeeze it in to anyone who uses magic. For stress responses, the most common ones are just flat out running, some form of RP paralysis, a mental breakdown, passing out, a blind violent rage, or something of that nature. You can get more inspiration by checking out the various madness tables in the DMG.

I know this video is 3 years old, but THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!! My friends started a D&D club and I started watching videos to try to learn the game, but this one not only explained things the most effectively, but the most entertainingly. I swear I'm rewatching this just to hear a "proverbial pounding in p*rnographic proportions" and "let's put a PEEN in that" over and over. Now I've smoothly started playing the game thanks to you! This video quickly got me into the game and gave me a ton of laughs!!🤣❤

Strength is how hard you can throw a tomato. Dexterity is how accurate you can throw a tomato. Constitution is how many tomatoes you can eat before getting sick. Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing a tomato doesn't belong in a fruit salad. Charisma is how well you can sell a tomato.

This is the only video that has actually made me able to understand a character sheet. The lightning fast talking speed so that I don't even have to speed up the video, the animations that catch your eye and keep you engaged, the silly sounds and slight insults that allow me to feel like it's not a formal class...all of it was so perfect for my ADHD dumb ass to actually keep up and understand. Let's be honest, we all laughed at "peepee poopoo watermelon".

My brother and I picked up D&D at a toy/board game shop for his birthday, and we’ve referred to these videos when we first made our characters. Safe to say I have the smoothest of smooth brains cause I instantly forgot about what the attack bonus was/did, so one game I threw it on to my damage roll and instantly gained +5 damage instead of +3 to my d20 roll. Safe to say I’ve fixed that for now. Oh shit, my attack bonus should be +6 due to my proficiency’s.

This is genuinely the best and most concise breakdown of a character sheet I've seen and I've been looking for so long

My one complaint with character sheets is that they don't have enough space for me to write down the dozens of flaws my characters have.

Mentioning the grace rolls of rolling all 1's when doing 4d6, in my group if you roll four 1's, it counts as rolling four 6's.

Rewatching the whole series. This time I'm reminded of the time my first character, a Life Domain Cleric specializing in healing, rolled Medicine to care for a horse we found. Our group Monk, who said he didn't know what a horse was, also rolled for Medicine. HE ROLLED HIGHER.

I know this is meant to be satire but I genuinely send this to all my new (and new-ish) players because it explains like 90% of character creation really clearly and it’s way more engaging than just me talking. Thank you JoCat!

I’m a dm of 2 years, whenever I get a newbie player I send them to this series, 9/10 times they perfectly understand that concepts

You know, this video was my first real introduction to dnd, about 6 months later and I am 5 months through my first campaign and having a blast! Funniest thing is that if this video had been more “average” I probably wouldn’t have actually gotten into dnd because of how complicated it seems, but this video just made it seem so fun, and funny that I had to try it at least once.

As a note: the skills on the character sheet are the recommended skill/ability pairings. Your DM can combine them as they see fit (for example, a Constitution (Athletics) check to Army crawl a quarter mile or an Intelligence (Medicine) check to perform brain surgery on a Slaad without killing it. To make those checks, simply add the mentioned ability score modifier to the check, and add your proficiency bonus if you're proficient in that skill - for example, a wizard with 18 Int, 10 Wis, and medicine proficiency at level would add +6 to an Int (Medicine) check but +2 to a Wisdom (Medicine) check.
