Hey, I just subscribed. I am an ESL teacher from Montreal, Quebec. I compose kids’ songs for my early grades, and have activity sheets to accompany them. I find that they’re a bit more modern and fun than the usual grade 1-2 stuff. The kids really like them, you should check them out when you have the time.

I am a new EL teacher in elementary school. I push-in and pull-out many small groups from K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. I have 2 newcomers K & 2nd. We have no clear curriculum for Newcomers so we are putting together various parts, color, numbers, family, etc. My time in planning takes a lot of time. Can you please review how you organize your lesson planning from where you start and plan? I’m drying to find a smooth Scope and Sequence as I plan for the various groups I meet with 2 - 4 times a week. Mainly reading, writing and study habits for 4th and 5th graders.

I teach esl but my kids are sheltered in my classroom I find that it works better without the whole pushing in: we have an esl class in every grade level
@TheLanguageLady
@TheLanguageLady 2 года назад
It is definitely better when they're sheltered because you can provide the supports within the context of the content areas that you're teaching.

Thank you so much for sharing! This video was very interesting because I am looking into being an ESL teacher! If you have time to respond, I am wondering what you majored in. A few colleges I’m looking into have TESL bachelor’s programs, but the larger universities that I would to to for my master’s don’t have it as a specific major. Just wondering what route you took! Thanks again!😊

Hi Julia! Welcome to the Language Lady community and thank you so much for watching my video. I actually did a video on the topic you are requesting about. The video is called "How I Became a Teacher Tag." It was a fun video to make. My major for undergrad was psychology with a concentration in elementary education. When I got my masters, I focused on bilingual education. That was when I became certified to teach bilingual ed. When I moved to PA, however, I had to get recertified in esl to be able to teach it in PA. Please let me know if you have any more questions after you watch my video. Which state are you from?

Great video! I am currently deciding what to get my masters in and I’ve thought about pursuing a TESOL program. My thesis for undergrad was on bilingual education and the importance of integrating it. Thank you for your video! I was wondering, if you don’t mind me asking what is the average salary for a ESL teacher in your area?
@TheLanguageLady
@TheLanguageLady 3 года назад
Hi Jessica, It depends on the school district, years of experience, and credits you have. If you type in the name of a school district and type bargaining agreement, you will come across salaries.

I was hired as an ESL teacher this semester and she ve been out of the teaching world for over 11yrs. Lots have changed of course. I used to teach home economics back then. Now I’m to be an ESL teacher and will be working on my masters. I feel lost. I don’t know where to begin. My coworker aka mentor says I’m doing great but I don’t feel like I am. I have students ranging from K-4th grades. No one has even explained where to look for deadlines or anything and my mentor just messaged me that communication with parents are due by this 15th!!!…. I don’t even know how to do that. Where can I get help? Are there any videos that show a detailed daily life of an ESL teacher? I feel lost on the woods and thrown to the wolfs. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated
